An einer IRC-Konferenz, die kuerzlich abgehalten wurde, nahmen auch Amiga-Praesident Jim Collas und der Leiter der Amiga-Produktentwicklung Jeff Schindler teil. Nachfolgend die wichtigsten Details zum Amiga der naechsten Generation, die genannt worden sind: - Das erste AmigaNG-Produkt werde das Entwicklersystem sein. - Amiga erwaege, fuer das Entwicklersystem optional eine Erweiterungskarte anzubieten, die Multimedia-Features und -Leistung zur Verfuegung stellt, die nicht jeder PC bieten koenne. - Das zweite AmigaNG-Produkt werde ein Multimedia-Computer sein. - Amiga will einen Computer zum Preis von etwa 500 US-Dollar mit der Leistung eines 3000US-Dollar-PCs ermoeglichen. - Amiga wolle selbst neue Hardware vorstellen, jedoch solle der AmigaNG eine offene Architektur besitzen, so dass die Technologie in vielerlei Produkten verwendbar sei. - Letztendlich peile man eine Gesamtstueckzahl von 20-30 Millionen Geraeten an. - Das neue Amiga-Betriebssystem werde Multiprocessing unterstuetzen. - Weitere Details zur Architektur sollen auf Entwicklerkonferenzen im Sommer und Herbst bekanntgegeben werden. An anderer Stelle wurden die Monate Juli/August (moeglicherweise frueher) genannt. - Amiga verhandele mit verschiedenen grossen Softwareunternehmen ueber AmigaNG-Unterstuetzung, von denen bislang keine ausdruecklich "nein" gesagt habe. - Der AmigaNG soll ueber das bestehende Haendlernetz verkauft werden. - Amiga werde als weltweite Firma gefuehrt, der Schwerpunkt liege auf den Laendern, in denen der Amiga am weitesten verbreitet ist, also Deutschland, UK und USA. - Der erste grosse Auftritt von Amiga soll auf der Comdex im Herbst stattfinden. - Noch in diesem Jahr soll eine bedeutende Menge an Geld fuer Marketingmassnahmen bereitgestellt werden. In einer Rede gab Jim Collas weitere Details bekannt: - Das neue Amiga-Betriebssystem werde den Namen "AmigaSoft" tragen. Amiga Präsident Jim Collas spricht auf der Amiga99 Hier eine kurze Zusammenfassung des Orginalartikels vom Amiga Web Directory. Eine vollständige Übersetzung wurde vom AWD verboten. Bei einer Rede auf der Amiga '99 legt Jim Collas, neuer Präsident von Amiga Inc., die Zukunftspläne etwas genauer dar. Das neue "Amiga operating enviroment" wird AmigaSoft heißen. Die erste Version (4.0 alpha für Entwickler) wird im September veröffentlicht, die endgülte Version 4.0 wird spät dieses Jahr folgen. Collas spricht von einer revolutionären Software-Architektur mit Multiprozessor-Unterstützung und einer vollständigen Entwicklerumgebung. AmigaSoft 5.0 beta wird ebenfalls spät im Jahr vorgestellt, und im zweiten Quartal 2000 veröffentlicht werden. Collas erwähnte unter anderem angepeilte Verkaufszahlen von 20 bis 30 Millionen Einheiten, gestand aber ein, daß man sich auf die richtigen Strategien konzentrieren müsse, um dieses Ziel zu erreichen. Weiterhin versprach Collas eine auf vielen Gebieten verbesserte Kommunikation mit der Amiga-Gemeinschaft. Die Unterstützung durch Gateway sei verstärkt worden. Es sei eine neue Computerrevolution in der Entstehung, und der Amiga könne diese Revolution anführen und erneut Geschichte schreiben. Nullser.device V 1.0 Nullser10.lha Auf der Fusion-Mailingliste gab Fred Wright bekannt, daß nun das Nullser.device V 1.0 verfügbar ist. Es simuliert Paare von Serial-Ports, die per Nullmodem-Kabel verbunden sind. Es kann zum Testen von "Comm"-Programmen oder Netzwerk- Software benutzt werden. Iomega ruft Netzteile bestimmter Jaz-Laufwerke zurück Anwender, die nach dem 1. September 1998 ein Jaz-Laufwerk von Iomega erwarben, können unter Umständen ein defektes Netzteil erhalten haben. Betroffen sind sowohl Geräte mit einer als auch mit zwei GByte Speicherkapazität. Iomega hat aus diesem Grund eine Rückrufaktion gestartet. Zwar seien bislang keine Reklamationen bekanntgeworden, dennoch sollen alle betroffenen Kunden innerhalb von zwei Wochen einen kostenlosen Ersatz zugeschickt bekommen. Betroffen sind nach Angaben von Iomega mehr als 60.000 Jaz-Laufwerke. Detaillierte Informationen hat der Hersteller auf seinem Internet-Angebot veröffentlicht. Ateo News Ateo Concepts ist dabei, eine neue Version der Pixel64 zu entwickeln. Sie wird Pixel64 ZIII heißen. Diese neue Karte wird auf einem ZorroIII-Slot im A3000 oder A4000 nutzbar sein. Außerdem wird an einer 3D-Erweiterung für die Pixel64 gearbeitet. Diese Erweiterung basiert auf dem Vodoo-Chip (Version 2 oder 3). Die 3D-Erweiterung wird für alle Pixel64 Versionen verfügbar sein. AteoSer, AteoPar und AteoIO: Neue Versionen des ateoser.device und des atepar.device stehen zum Download bereit. Eine bittere Pille gibt es aber: Eric Sauvageau hat das NewIcons-Team verlassen, da er sich einen PC gekauft hat. Trotzdem hat er noch mitgeholfen, die Version 4.5 zu optimieren.
