ReAction GUI for XAD: Avalanche 3.1 for AmigaOS 3 and 4
Chris Young's Avalanche is a ReAction-based graphical user interface for the unarchiving system XAD, which also supports the xfdmaster.library and can search for viruses using the xvs.library. Since version 2.1, simple editing of LhA/Zip archives also is possible (Zip requires zip.library - only under AmigaOS 4). The developer has written his tool explicitly for AmigaOS 3.2.1, but has also tested it under AmigaOS 4. Changes of version 3.1: more ... (dr)

DIY: Connecting USB keyboards with STALKER
The STALKER adapter card by Gianluca Renzi enables USB-HID keyboards to be connected to the Amiga 1000, Amiga 2000/3000, Amiga 4000/CD32, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200 and Amiga 600 and is based on a 32-bit STM32 microcontroller.

The STALKER offers a built-in USB stack that enables support for USB HID keyboards without the need to install additional AmigaOS software drivers. The entire installation process boils down to connecting a STALKER adapter and plug to the keyboard port of the Amiga 1000, 2000 or 4000 externally, or internally in any other Amiga computer.

Another feature of the adapter is its "bootloader" function, which enables future firmware upgrades. The STALKER comes with special firmware, but any firmware version can be installed without any problems, as it is an open source project. Features:
  • supports for both USB HID, wireless adapters and USB-PS/2 keyboards,
  • Amiga 1000, 2000/3000, Amiga 4000/CD32, Amiga 1200, Amiga 600 and Amiga 500 compatibility,
  • built-in USB stack with HID Keyboard firmware driver
  • "Bootloader" function allowing future firmware upgrades,
  • "Status" indicator LED providing information about device's state,
  • built around 32-bit STM32 microcontroller utilizing latest technology,
  • non-blocking keyboard.
Hardware documentation for DIY construction is available for the internal versions of the A1200, A500 and A600, as well as for the external stand-alone version.

Two days ago, version 1.5 of the USB keyboard driver and version 0.3 of the bootloader were released. (dr)

Do it yourself: CDTV infrared converter for joysticks
The Amiga CDTV Brick allows two players to use their standard Amiga joysticks on the CDTV, just like the corresponding prototype from Commodore, without having to purchase a CD1200-Trackball (manual), which has become expensive on the second-hand market meanwhile. To do this, a Raspberry Pi Pico converts the joystick signals into corresponding infrared signals. (snx)

Amiga emulator for macOS: vAmiga 4.4b2 (update)
Dirk Hoffmann has released version 4.4b1 of his Amiga emulator "vAmiga" for macOS. In this new version the Preferences window has received a visual overhaul, and the built-in screen recording has been removed in favor of RetroVisor.

Additionally two bugs were fixed: the large toolbar icon issue introduced in version 4.3.2 on macOS Tahoe has been resolved, and the CPU property "irqMode" has not been saved in snapshots in earlier versions.

The developer adds that vAmiga has not been thoroughly tested on macOS Tahoe. The officially supported OS is Sequoia. While it may run on Tahoe, compatibility is not guaranteed.

Update: (06:57, 26.09.25, dr)

Version 4.4b2 is now available. Enhancements:
  • Combined preferences and VR configuration into a single unified settings dialog.
  • Introduced an onboarding agent that launches when no ROM is installed.
  • Added fingerprints for Hyperion 3.2.3 ROMs.

Ryan 'bluewizard' Stapleton has released a first test version 0.1.1 of "AMail", his implementation of a modern email cleint for AmigaOS 3.2 that supports IMAP and SMTP (video).

As he writes, AMail would no longer work with Yahoo and Gmail. If anyone manages to get it working, he asks for feedback. Some features have not yet been implemented, and the developer does not expect to have them ready by the end of the Amiga 40 Tools Jam. These include, among others:
  • Add input Blocking when the machine is doing something in addition to the stopwatch
  • When Reply include at least some of the body message
  • Reply to a message
  • CC addressed to the reply
  • Settings to enable Re: in the subject line
  • enable start StartTLS
  • Add option to verify SSL cert, currently it accepts any as ok
  • Add setting to enable or disable cert based on needs
  • Message Body is limited to 4k
  • Add ability to use IMAP Folders
  • Identify unread messages

MorphOS: Unreal Engine 1.2 (update)
Bruno 'BeWorld' Peloille and Szilárd 'BSzili' Biró have released a MorphOS port of Unreal Engine 1 (video). The game was released free of charge on the Internet Archive at the end of October 2024 (see also the corresponding PCWorld article).

Only the original retail version v200 of Unreal works; later versions or Unreal Gold do not work. You will need the latest version of SDL2 (v53.20), the latest TinyGL version 53.10, an OpenGL-capable graphics card, and MorphOS 3.19.

Update: (24.09.2025, 21:04, dr)

Version 1.1 has since been replaced by version 1.2: the editor part was missing from the build in the former. (dr)

AmigaOS 4: Serious Sam port in the works
Following the MorphOS port by Bruno 'BeWorld' Peloille and Szilárd 'BSzili' Biró, Steffen Häuser is currently working on an implementation of Serious Sam for AmigaOS 4, which will be made available at OS4Depot also free of charge. The CD of the PC version of the game is required. Ported are the first two parts from 2001 and 2002: The First Encounter and The Second Encounter.

A (very) stable beta version would already exist, and interested further testers are welcome to make contact by e-mail. The first-person shooter would be running "super smoothly" on an AmigaOne X1000, with tests on Sam4x0 computers still to follow. However, it does not run in emulation under QEmu due to the required 3D hardware. On the software side, NovaBridge is expected to be required, as it would run under GL4ES but look "unattractive", at least at present. (snx)

TPUG Magazine is looking for Amiga-related submissions
Dr. Myles Skinner writes: "I normally hang out with the C64 folks, but I'm hoping to reach our Amiga friends. The venerable old Toronto PET Users Group (TPUG) has asked me to go ahead and post a small announcement: We're thrilled to announce that the TPUG magazine is returning and will be available in print for the first time in ages at World of Commodore 2025.

We have a little extra room for a couple more articles, so we're accepting proposals. Because of the Amiga's 40th birthday, we would especially like to have Commodore Amiga-related submissions. If you have an idea for an article, please send your proposal to tpug_magazine@tierceron.com.

To keep up with all the latest news on the magazine's relaunch, be sure to visit our website. I'm the editor of this beast, so if there are any questions, I'll do my best to answer." (cg)

Platformer: Bouncy Bonzo's Space Journey (AGA)
In "Bouncy Bonzo's Space Journey" (video), the aim is to guide the constantly bouncing character Bonzo through 17 levels spread across three worlds, with bosses and bonus levels also featured. The title, created with the Scorpion engine, requires an AGA Amiga with at least 0.5 MB of Fast RAM and a hard drive or CD drive, although progress cannot be saved with the latter. On joysticks and joypads with two independent fire buttons, the second button is used for jumping.

Configurations with a Pistorm or (quote) 'similar, "modern" Amigas' may experience unspecified problems. "Bouncy Bonzo's Space Journey" is available for download for USD 7.50 at itch.io. (cg)
