kickstart show update

There are just a few short weeks to go until K3, the third Kickstart Amiga
Show takes place. The show is being held by The Kickstart Amiga User Group
(http://www.kickstart-amiga.co.uk), based in Ottershaw, Surrey.

The Date: Saturday May 27th 2000
The Time: 12-5pm
The Place: Brook Hall, Brox Road, Ottershaw, Surrey
Admission: £1 per person

The third Kickstart Show is nearing and already we have a
fantastic line-up of activities and stands for you.

In addition to the two Amiga A1200 Magic Packs from Amiga Inc (one to bwe
given away in a prize draw for all show goers, the other exclusively for
Kickstart members), a host of hardware from Analogic and Epic and software
from Forematt to give away, we have over 25 stands selling new and second
user Amiga software and hardware, and demonstrating Amiga applications.

In our Games Arena, we have multiplayer Quake and Multiplayer Super
Skidmarks contests running (see our web site for the advance
sign-up form).
You can win a host of prizes from joysticks to hard drives.

You also have the chance to buy the fully registered version of
the incredibly popular and equally impressive Moovid video player
software. Registering software with overseas authors is often
difficult and time-consuming - at the Kickstart Amiga Show you
can do it in £ Stirling and immediately.

All this and more is already confirmed, with more to be added in
the coming weeks.

For more information, please look at the Kickstart Web Site
(http://www.kickstart-amiga.co.uk).

Amiga Future interview with YAM author Marcel Beck
On the Amiga Future homepage ("AKTION" area) there is an interview with the author of YAM (German only). Interesting parts are the statement that he will only ever support the platform he is using himself - and that he will be waiting for the AmigaNG to be actually available before deciding what to think of it.

Meaning, if it's interesting enough for him we might be lucky to see a YAM NG... ;-) (mb)

StarGate becomes Freeware
With much considerations I have decided to release StarGate as freeware to the Amiga community. The latest version v2.5 contains bug fixes and minor features. Additional features have not yet been implemented and may not be in the future.

StarGate is premier email and news client for the Amiga. It requires MUI v3.6 and greater.

Please goto http://www.toysoft-dev.com (title link) for the download. You will required to download the v2.1 archive first.

GoldED

GoldED Studio Service Pack 16 available
For registered users of GoldED Studio the Service Pack 16 is available for download. Also available is a completely reworked Webworld plug-in. The HTML editor was expanded by countless very useful functions.

I was of course especially interested in the new Webworld plug-in. It is very intuitively, and proved to be an excellent and unique help in creating the HTML pages for amiga-news.de after only a few minutes. Even the "old" Webworld plug-in was fine, but the new one is much better yet! If I had to give it a grade, it would be an "A+" :-). A must-have for web workers! (ps)

CS&E: Biggest Free Amiga games magazine
CS&E announces another big and free (!) Amiga game magazine named A1200!. Read the announcement:

From: "CS&E" csande@csande.com
To: amiga-news.de team@amiga-news.de
Subject: Biggest Free Amiga games magazine
Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 15:05:19 +0100

Following on from CS&E's successful takeover of Amiga Survivor magazine, I
am pleased to announce that A1200! magazine has not disappeared completely!
Obviously people who have paid good money for our new magazine will now get
Amiga Survivor, but every month CS&E will, in addition, produce A1200!
magazine which will be sent out free to anyone that requests it (you can
e-mail interactive@csande.com). Without an audited figure some companies
may feel they can get away with the equivalent of me saying we print 500,000
copies so whilst in fact the actual print figure will be around the 15,000
mark I will invest in an audited free circulation figure so legitimate
companies can advertise with a legitimate audience. A1200! magazine is
already confirmed as the biggest selling Amiga magazine in the UK due to our
mailing list. Don't go with a poor imitation :)

Kind Regards,

David Connolly
Managing Director

Alive Mediasoft: Big Change
Due to the british print magazine "Amiga Format" folding, there is now a vacancy which Alive Mediasoft intends to fill with their magazine "The Pulse". Read the complete press release with all details:

From: Steven Flowers steve@alive-mediasoft.co.uk
To: Amiga News team@amiga-news.de

Subject: BIG Change

Hello Amiga Friends,

BYE-BYE AMIGA FORMAT

With the fall of Amiga Format in the UK a lot of Amiga users around the
world are left with nothing to read, and a lot of UK companies with nowhere
to advertise. If I'm not mistaken, even Amiga Active appears to have
limited it's games support with NO game reviews this issue.
So, Alive are doing something about it....

The Pulse - the publication with more new game reviews than any other Amiga
magazine is undergoing some changes....

ALIVE DROPS HARDWARE & SERIOUS SOFTWARE

From May the 1st, Alive mediasoft (the publisher of The Pulse)
has dropped all
Amiga Hardware and Serious Software. They are dedicating their time to
expanding their already unbeaten games software. Some of the smaller, more
common utilities will still be available as well as mice and joysticks as
always, but the decision to drop the serious software and hardware opens
the doors for other Amiga conpanies to advertise their products in The
Pulse.

THE PULSE TO CARRY ADVERTS

From issue 13 onwards, for a very small cost, Amiga software & harware
companies can now advertise to 5,000 Amiga owners!

READERSHIP DOUBLES

 - yes that's right, because of the advertising already taken out, they have
been able to increase the monthly publication to a massive 5000 issues!
Unfortunately, even though they've now doubled the readership, there will
still be some disappointed Amiga owners as The Pulse is a FREE publication
so there must be a limit on the number sent out.

News of the available advertising space went out just seven days ago, and
interest has been so good that Alive have decided to add a further 8 pages
to The Pulse to accomodate without loosing any of the features you've
already come to expect.
They anicipate adding more and more pages over the coming months, but for
now the adverts for issue 13 are:-

Epic UK
Eyetech Group Ltd.
Digital Dreams
Abel Gratis
Marvel Comic (for Amiga X-Men)
Titan Computers

ALIVE GUARANTEE MORE GAME REVIEWS THAN ANYONE ELSE

Not only have Alive added another 8 pages and now a glossy colour front
cover, but they also give you a guarantee that The Pulse will carry more
game reviews and more exclusive reviews than any other Amiga magazine out
there.

BRAND NEW COVER DISKS FOR THE PULSE

The final peice in the puzzle has not been fitted with the introduction of
cover disks for every issue of The Pulse.
Subscription to The Pulse magazine will remain completely FREE and available
with FREE POSTAGE to anywhere in the world.
You can now also subscribe to The Pulse CD (P-CD), or The Pulse Cover Disk
(P-FD) for a very small fee to cover costs:-

*One-off copies will cost:*

(Cover CD) P-CD: £3 per issue
(Cover Disk) P-FD: £1.50 per issue

*Special offer for 4 month subscription:*

(Cover CD) P-CD: £10
(Cover Disk) P-FD: £5

*The Pulse Floppys on Issue 1:-*
As a special introduction to the new cover disks, the very first month will
feature Alive mediasoft's critically acclaimed RPG game "BLADE".
The floppy disk version will normally be 2 disks per issue. However, issue
one will come with FOUR floppy disks to accomodate all of Blade.

*The Pulse CD on Issue 1:*-
Quite simply a brilliant CD containing The full version of BLADE - CD
edition.
This includes the complete game as well as the full source code.
And for all those of you who can't wiat for Alive's conversion of Elite 3,
the cover CD will contain some brilliant new updates for Elite 2 with all
sorts of new ships etc.
There's also the exclusive preview tralier of Phantasmagoria and a fully
playable demo of Heretic 2. There's a brand new demo of Descent 2 PPC
Warp 3D and a demo of the X-Men for Quake

Every month the CD will be jam-packed with 650mb of full games, demos, game
updates and some great serious software.

HARDWARE AND SERIOUS SOFTWARE REVIEWS

The Pulse is primarily a games magazine, but does have four pages dedicated
to serious software and Amiga hardware, so there's something of interest for
every type of Amiga user.

Because of the new advertising and the more magazine-like feel to The Pulse,
Alive have promised to tone down the controversy (especially Steven's Final
Word!). Sorry to all the readers who enjoyed this, but it's not to
everyone's liking apparantly.

CONTENTS OF ISSUE 13 - OUT END MAY:-

*Special Features*
Mame Arcade Emulator
Interview with Hyperion

*PREVIEWS*
Sin
Maim & Mangle
Explorer 2260
Dafel Bloodline

*REVIEWS*

*BUYERS GUIDE*

/and so much more/...

For those of you who are new to The Pulse, it's a FREE publication available
to Amiga users all over the world.
It consists of 40 A5 pages profesionally printed in black and white with a
colour cover. 12 of the pages detail Alive mediasofts range of software,
the rest is dedicated to the best reveiws, previews and news of everything
Amiga related.
This is NOT Amiga Format - it's FREE!

There are still a few copies of issue 12 left, so if you would like one
E-Mail thepulse@alive-mediasoft.co.uk
but more importantly to subscribe to The Pulse from issue 13 then
E-Mail thepulse@alive-mediasoft.co.uk

The Pulse Magazine - TOTALLY FREE!
The Pulse Mag and CD - £3 per issue or £10 for 4 issues
The Pulse Mag and Floppy Disks - £1.50 per issue or £5 for 4 issues

Subscription through the site is not available for now as we are updating
the site, but should be up again by the end of next week.

OH YEAH, Guess I should apologise for the big email, but I had a lot to say!

Kind regards

TELE reports about Amiga
I just read issue 18/00 of the Swiss media magazine TELE, and on page 33 I found two articles: "Comeback of the Amiga?" and "No April Fool's joke". They come with a picture labeled: "It's biggest advantage was it never crashed."

Never say never. ;-) (ps)

AminetGUI / Some private notes
Because I have to do my military service starting on May 1st, 2000, I can only reply to questions in the forum or by mail on weekends only. Moreover, work on the Aminet-GUI will be sparse. But here is a promise: The Aminet-GUI won't be closed. If it is possible, I will continue with updates.

If somebody is interested in working as co-webmaster, please contact me. Right now is this GUI a one-man effort. Alexander Kurtz, webmaster of Aminet.de.

Sharks! CD32 edition finished
"SHARKS! CD32 Edition" is finished, and will be shipped starting today. The game can be easily ordered from me by e-mail.

The author mentions a price of ~15 Euro incl. p&p, but I think abroad shipments might cost more. Contact Christian for details. (mb)

"SHARKS! CD32 edition" also runs on AMIGAs with min. OS2.04, 2 MB RAM and CD-ROM. With a CD32 emulation, the CD soundtrack is working, too! More details on my homepage under "PROJEKTE".
