Article: CNN ... Amiga isn't dead CNN: "Surprise: The Amiga isn't dead... technically. Although Commodore is defunct, an Australian company called Amiga Inc. is still updating the Amiga operating system and has created specs in hopes of finding friendly manufacturers to release the first new Amiga hardware in six years. A small but loyal fan base of Amiga nuts is holding its breath." An Austrialian Company? (ps) (Translation: sk) [News message: 03. Sep. 2001, 12:00] [Comments: 3 - 05. PCI: Grzegorz Kraszewski about the Prometheus bus Grzegorz Kraszewski, Matay, talked about the status of the Prometheus bus on the Prometheus mailing list. The current firmware is unidirectional, meaning that the Prometheus can act as PCI master and Zorro-III slave, only. After a firmware update the bus can be bidirectional. Then the master PCI board can access the Amiga hardware. That means that the Amiga hardware acts like a PCI board for a G4 PPC card. Follow the title link for the original text. Printer-Spooler: PrintManager V39.32 PrintManager v39 is a so called printer-spooler, it intercepts all printer. device calls to the parallel-/serial.device and saves the printer specific raw data to a file. This way, programs sending data to the printer don't have to wait for the slow printer to continue. PrintManager also gives you some control over the data sent to the printer. You can even print files directly from inside PrintManager using the datatypes-system. 'PrintManager' also can be configured to make the spooler catch printing commands directly sent to the parallel or serial device. Changes: when changing the screenmode or screenfont of the workbench screen, PrtMan closes and reopens its window, now. This feature requires OS3.9. Features:

AmigaDE: Tool - memprof V1.0 On 01. September 2001 Fleecy Moss released version 1.0 of the memory profiler 'memprof' for the AmigaDE SDK. This tool does some crude but useful memory profiling. It works only for VP apps at the moment and only profiles application memory (i.e. memory that a developer asks for and frees). It does not cover system memory such as pixmaps, etc. Download: dev/vp/memprof_1.zip (5K), Readme (sd) [News message: 02. Game: Earth 2140 Update "Some people reported problems running the game from CDROMs connected to their BlizzardPPC/CyberStormPPC SCSI controllers, getting "phase mismatch" errors. This version fixes the CDDA code to support those controllers too. In addition to that we have fixed some problems regarding the speed setting within the game. So if the game is too slow now, just move the speed gadget up again - it's better than the other way around, as before." Download: E2140_English_020401.lha (sd) [News message: 02. Swiss local store AMIGALAND closing down Marianne E. Vokinger wrote: For health reasons I, Marianne E. Vokinger, holder of AMIGALAND in Switzerland, unfortunately have to finally close down the local store AMIGALAND after 9½ years of business. I will appeal to keep existing contacts and to go on working for the dispatch. But until the entire liquidation was done and I'm of somehow stable health again it quite sure will be October 2001 for me to able to be active again. I'm very sorry to not having another option and I'm often remembering the 'GOOD OLD TIMES', these days. I would like to thank all of my customers both at home and abroad for they have been faithful for many years, as well as my distributors! Also a special thank to you, Petra, for you already let me off the hook on the Neuss show :)) Who knows, maybe we will meet again on some show :-) I wish you much success further on. Marianne E. Image processor SViewIV: New ImageFX loader/saver modules Andreas Kleinert writes: There's a new version of the SViewIV ImageFX loader/saver available for download on my WWW site. It now allows to save images as well (previously only worked as loader), the loading process is much more efficient and less memory consuming and support for saving of paletted (imagefx-rendered) images has been added. This module requires a SViewIV keyfile to work. (ps) (Translation: rh) [News message: 01. Sep. 2001, 20:14] [Comments: 0] [Send via e-mail] [Print version] [ASCII version] |
