Chaos Computer Club (CCC)

CCC: Website of the 19th Chaos Communication Congress is Online
The website of 19C3 (19th Chaos Communication Congress) is online. There is where you'll find all the important advance information about this year's congress, which takes place from the 27th to the 29th of December in "Haus Am Köllnischen Park (HAKP)" in Berlin. The entrance fee for one day for non-members is 20 euros, for a multiday pass it's 40 euros. There are discounts offered if a valid student ID is presented and children under the age of 12 enter costlessly, when accompanied by an adult.

The Chaos Communication Congress is a three day event about Technology, Society, and Utopia. The Congress offers performances and workshops on a variety of topics having to do with Information Technology, computer security, Internet, Cryptography, and the critical creative intersection with technology, as well as the effects of technological development on society.

The Chaos Communication Congress is the yearly specialty congress of the Chaos Computer Club e.V. (CCC). The congress takes place this year for the 19th time and has its origins in the "European Hacker Party" of 1984.

The congress is not only for techno freaks, but also for anyone interested in the utilizations and effects. Near the conference program there are other elements of the congress such as the Art&Beauty project, the Labor, the Chaos Archive, the Hack Center and the 6th German championship in lock picking. Test Program MpegMasterPlayer (made with Hollywood)
Here comes a test program named MpegMasterPlayer (downloadable under the title link), which was put together with Hollywood. It's really a player built on mpega. Further, I would like to state that this player and a few other programs originated only with this Amiga editor, because the scripting language of Hollywood is very simple.

Attention: the archive includes only executables (no script data). Because of this you can't examine the program code. In order to modify the program code, you'll need the complete Hollywood pack. Additionally the three most important libraries are in the archive, and these are needed to run the executables. Because the player currently only supports Amithlon's Soundblaster 128, you won't hear any music on a normal Amiga (so this should be seen as only a demo of what is possible with Hollywood). Hollywood now available also for MorphOS (Update)
A native MorphOS version of Hollywood is now available. This PPC version is of course much faster than the 68k one, so many effects can now be displayed in real time at an acceptable speed (on 68k computers most of the CPU intensive effects were precalculated and displayed then to make them appear smoothly). It is already very fast on my Blizzard PPC with 200 MHz so it should really fly on a Pegasos system.

So you can create now cool applications, games and demonstrations even for PPC and convert them also into native PPC executables! All Hollywood CD-ROMs shipped from now, will contain the 68k and MorphOS PPC version. If you already have the first edition of the Hollywood CD-ROM you can request the MorphOS version of Hollywood from me by sending an e-mail to me. By the way, if you want your Hollywood CD-ROM before Christmas, it is high time to order now.

Update 14.12.2002:
Andreas Falkenhahn writes:
As I got some mails from people saying that they won't buy Hollywood because I'm supporting MorphOS I have to clarify that there will be AmigaOS4 version of Hollywood of course. But before this can happen, I need a developer version of AmigaOS4 and because such a version does not seem to be available currently, I cannot do anything yet. But there will be definitely an AmigaOS4 version of Hollywood (if it is API compatible to the classic AmigaOS). So, don't panic and don't send me any more of such threatening letters. It's really astonishing how serious this topic seems to be to some people. Additionally the update to the AmigaOS4 version of Hollywood will be free of charge too (as the update to the MorphOS version was). So if you are interested in Hollywood, you can also buy the program now and get the update for free when AmigaOS 4 is finally available. (ps)

More screen shots of Crossfire II
At the APC&TCP page there were more screen shots from the game Crossfire II published. With the new screen shots it's even better to see that Crossfire is not a simple shooter but a game with comlexe missions, much variations and a big factor of addiction. The game is available at APC&TCP directly. (ps) (Translation: ub)

Solution of the bug in the CrossfireII version sold on the fair
Even returned from the fair, the first e-mails reached us. Unfortunately in haste to finish the work on Crossfire II still before the fair an error occured. If you trie to start the program, bought on the fair, after the installation the error message "... File not executable" appears. In order to solve this problem, one has to select the menu option "instruction executes" from the Workbench menu and input in each case one of the following two lines:

protect <Ihr Crossfire2-Verzeichnis>/CF2 ADD RWED
protect <Ihr Crossfire2-Verzeichnis>/CF2_PPC ADD RWED

We would like to apologize for this error and hope for your understanding. The update that will probably appear this week will contain this correction as well as MorphOS support and German translation.

Thanks to all involved and supervisors of the fair, particularly to Eternity, which exhibited "valley of Tamar". Next year we will place the coffee. Promised.
