Website: Commodore Amiga Information Source closes
Patrick Klöter writes:

"Dear Amiga Friends,

In the last weeks and months, I have been getting around to updating my Amiga web page less and less. Therefore, I have the following announcement to make: The articles from Commodore Amiga Information Source will migrate to the Amiga Future web page in the following weeks. Whether into the article database or somewhere else, remains to be seen. Andreas and I will try to haul as many articles as possible from my website.

In return, my page will go offline soon. The guestbook, my forum and the ML will also be affected by this. Therefore, I am already referring to the forum of AMIGA Future or the forum of Amiga-News.

This move does not come easy to me, but I am pleased that the content is preserved through Amiga Future.

On this path, I'd like to thank all Commodore and Amiga friends, who have visited this website regularly and provided me with praise and criticism in the 4 1/2 years.

Sincerely yours,
Patric Klöter" (cg) (Translation: cad)

ars technica: The evolution of gaming
In his article, Jeremy Reimer tries to comprehend how individual game genres have advanced over the years. In reality, has only the quality of the graphics improved, or are there fundamental differences in playability?

To get to the bottom of this question, Reimer compares 66 games from diverse genres and decades. (cg) (Translation: cad)

ValiantVision: Support for the TV card chipset saa713x
Guido Mersman has been working on "ValiantVision," the successor to AmithlonTV, the TV card driver software, for some time. As he discloses in his developer journal, a driver for the Philips saa713x chipset has reached beta status in the meantime.

This very widespread chipset offers better picture quality than the bt8x8, supported by AmithlonTV/ValiantVision until now, and supports two picture channels. Thus, it will be possible to display a freely scalable (preview) picture, while in the background, the picture is displayed in full size through the second channel. (cg) (Translation: cad)
