AROS/x86: Update of the ABI v0 version
Press release: This version 20250313 integrates last three years of AROS development and brings 32-bit kernel to the same level as upcoming 64-bit AROS release. New kernel brings improved support for newer, ACPI-enabled hardware, complemented by improvements to disk and network drivers as well as updates to core system libraries and more than 60 bug fixes across AROS programs and libraries.

Additional work has been put in stabilizing drivers for virtual environment (VirtualBox, VMware and QEMU) so that you can try AROS first in virtualization before deciding on purchasing a dedicated hardware.

A list of the complete changes can be found on GitHub.

If you are already using previous version 20220318-1 (amiga-news.de reported), you can upgrade your installation using this upgrade package (direct download).

A list of recommended hardware is also available.

Enjoy! (dr)

FPGA based Amiga clone: AmiCube, Board-Layout Version 1.1
Ranko Rodic presents the current status of his FPGA-based Amiga clone AmiCube F1200 in a video. The changes made are explained using a rendering of version 1.1 of the board layout:
  • MOSFETs back for level shifting - They're making a triumphant return to handle voltage like champs!
  • Floppy disk module routed like a dream - Everything's neatly tucked into this slick little area - pure engineering art!
  • Tiny 402 components (pick-and-place approved!) - These micro-sized parts are a bold move, and my trusty machine's got it covered.
  • LEDs still shining bright for cell/motor/ready signals - Keeping the visuals popping so you know what's active at a glance!
  • FPGA now gets direct ready signals - sky's the limit in Verilog! - More control, more possibilities - coding just got a whole lot more fun!
  • Polarity sorted, inverters added - active low LEDs light up when they should! - No more guessing games; these lights mean business now!
  • Detect signals for floppy connections = instant LED action! - Plug in a floppy, and bam - LEDs light up to confirm it's go time!
  • Cleaner routing, no more wiggles - just straight-line perfection! - The board's looking sharper than ever with optimized paths.
  • Jumper for 3V/5V switching + better heat dissipation with extra mass - Flexibility and cool vibes - literally thanks to some thermal tweaks!
  • FPGA status LEDs to show when the Amiga core is up & running! - Watch the magic happen as the board boots and the Amiga core kicks in!
  • Decoupling done right this time - followed Spartan-6 datasheets to the letter! - No shortcuts here; it's all by the book for max stability!
  • SRAM (6MB) + SDRAM (64MB) in the works for that sweet retro Amiga RAM vibes! - SRAM keeps it authentic, while SDRAM adds mega power - best of both worlds!
  • AGA core porting is progressing—looking good so far! - The Amiga dream is coming alive, and I’m pumped about where this is headed!

After Classic AmigaOS Programming - An introduction and Bare Metal Amiga Programming, Edwin Van Den Oosterkamp presents his third paperback on Amiga programming called Classic AmigaOS Programming: The Network. It is about adding network and Internet functionality to Amiga programs and is aimed at people who have some experience with writing software for the Amiga, but have no experience with IP networking. Like its predecessors, the title is self-published via Amazon, a digital edition is not available. (cg)

Emulator: Mame106Minimix 1.2b (update)
The Multi Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) emulates numerous arcade machines. After conversions for MorphOS and AmigaOS 4 as well as various, mostly older 68k ports, there has been another project for AmigaOS 3.1 since last year with Mame106Minimix, which however requires a very fast computer (68060 processor with 64 MB or actually designed for PiStorm extensions).

The port of MAME version 0.106, which dates back to 2006, is now available in version 1.2 and offers various optimizations, bug fixes and improvements, such as an optional “NewLowLevel” patch, which is required for some Amiga 2000 configurations.

Update: (28.03.2025, 06:10, dr)

Version 1.2b is now available. (snx)
