Hollywood plugin: Iconic 1.0 released

Press release:: In 2022 Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hollywood, the cross-platform multimedia application layer. To kick off the celebrations we are proud to present a brand-new plugin for Hollywood: Iconic. Iconic is the ultimate icon loader and saver plugin for Hollywood. It will make all your icon dreams come true because it can load and save icons in pretty much all of the most common icon formats. The following formats are currently supported:
  • AmigaOS 1.x style icons
  • AmigaOS 2.x/3.x style icons
  • AmigaOS 3.5/3.9 icons (aka GlowIcons)
  • AmigaOS 4.x Icons
  • macOS Icons (*.icns-Format)
  • MagicWB icons
  • MorphOS/PowerIcons icons (PNG)
  • NewIcons
  • Windows icons (*.ico-Format)
Of course, Iconic also supports loading and saving of the metadata found in the Amiga icon formats like tooltypes, icon position, drawer view mode, icon type and so on. Thanks to Hollywood 9's new support for palette images it is also possible to load the icon palette, set a transparent pen and access the raw palette pens used in the icon image data. Of course, Iconic doesn't only support palette-based icon images but also icons that contain true colour images with alpha channel. Several of the icon formats listed above also support palette and true colour images within the same icon file and several different icon sizes within the same icon file. All of this is supported by Iconic as well!

This is why Iconic is the ultimate icon plugin for Hollywood and a must-have for every Hollywood user. The plugin is now available for free download from the official Hollywood portal. Thanks to Hollywood's cross-platform plugin system versions for AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, MorphOS, WarpOS, AROS (x86), Linux (arm, ppc, x86, x64), macOS (ppc, x86, x64), Windows (x86, x64), Android and iOS are provided. Note that Hollywood 9 is strictly required by Iconic.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hollywood we also offer a special 20 euros discount on the full version of Hollywood for a limited time only. This is the perfect chance for all people who don't own Hollywood yet to grab their own copy and to explore the wonderful world of Hollywood and be fascinated by the gigantic functionality of this unique piece of software and all of the plugins that come with it! AmigaOS 4: Software performance profiler 'Profyler' for developers
As the author Mike Steed wrote, Profyler "is a software performance profiler - or profiler for short - for AmigaOS 4. It allows the execution speed of the various functions that make up a program to be measured, facilitating optimization of the program to improve its performance.

More specifically, Profyler is a deterministic profiler, which adds code to the program being profiled in order to implement the profiling functionality. It uses the -finstrument-functions feature of the GCC compiler, which means that it only works with C and C++ programs compiled with GCC. It also means that a program must be compiled and then linked with LibProfyle in order to be profiled; you can't profile a program that you can't compile." (dr)

880 kilobyte on 5.25 inch floppy disks: TEAC FD-55GFR 7193-U running on Amiga
The Iranian Siamak Habibzadeh has published a conversion manual at Github, which allows the operation of a 5.25 inch floppy from TEAC on the Amiga. The drive, originally intended for the PC, then stores 880 kilobytes in Amiga format on a 5.25-inch floppy. (cg)

Arcade ports: Demo version of 'Wonderboy', preview video of 'Final Fight'
Wonderboy is to be an Amiga conversion of Sega's arcade classic of the same name. The Amiga version is created with the help of the Scorpion Engine. A now available first demo version, which is called alpha by the developer, runs smoothly from an Amiga 1200. Eine für den A500 optimierte Variante soll in Kürze folgen.

There is already an Amiga implementation of Capcom's Acrade machine Final Fight from 1991, but it is not very popular with friends of the beat-em-up genre. A fan of the automaton is now working on a new implementation developed in machine language, which currently requires a 68020 processor. A video shows the current status, one level and two different opponents have been implemented so far. (cg)
