Jarno Smit (E-Mail)

Crowd funding: Another A1200 case
At Indiegogo, Jarno Smit has started a crowd funding project called "AMIGA CASE". It is a case which according to the description is "based on classic Amiga 1200" and "is meant as a replacement for the old (yellowed/damaged) Amiga 1200 case": AMIGA CASE looks like a real A1200 but is slightly larger which provides more space for any expensions or a different motherboard.

The most important features of Smit's case which is officially licenced by Amiga Inc.:
  • Original Amiga logo on the case
  • Designed for classic Amiga 1200 hardware
  • Designed for the Thin Mini-ITX form factor, Raspberry PI 1B+/2/3 and Keyrah V2 keyboard adapter
  • Designed for usage with internal and external keyboards. Can function as a keyboard stand
  • Two 3,5 inch bays to build in devices of your choice. Covers for the 3,5 inch expansion bays with pre cut USB connection holes
  • Recessed air vents for Amiga 1200 accelerators and the Thin Mini-ITX motherboard
  • Adjustable placement in height of the Amiga 1200 motherboard
  • Removable and replaceable backplates
  • High quality plastics with UV stabilizer (no more yellowing)
  • High quality screw points with blind brass inserts
A single case will cost between 60 and 70 Euro. In order to to put this project into practice, during the next two months in total preorders of 90.000 Euro have to be received.

Hint of the editorial staff: Since 2015, "AMIGA CASE" is a registered trademark of Jarno Smit in Benelux. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Retro 7-bit (ANF)

External keyboard adapter: SumCDTV
Retro 7-bit offers a CDTV version of the keyboard adapter Sum A234/CD32. The Sum adapters have an integrated USB-stack "which enables USB HID keyboards support without the need for installing additional AmigaOS software drivers."

There are no information on the website of Retro 7-bit, if the SumCDTV differs from the original Sum adapter only by the colour. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Alexander Fritsch (ANF)

Voice output: speak-handler 39.1
Alexander 'selco' Fritsch has written a new speak-handler which is a replacement for the original one available on the Workbench disks starting with version 2.1. It is a new development and not a patch.

The new speak-handler can simultaneously use (experimentally) different versions of the translator.library and of the narrator.device. (In this way it is possible to use the retro sound of the old narrator.device provided by AmigaOS 1.3 as well as the modern sound of the device provided by AmigaOS 2.0.)
