macOS: Picture Viewer PixDeluxe and QuickLook plugin for iff files
The developer of Send2adf and ADF.inder (amiga-news.de reported) offers another two tools for macOS:
PixDeluxe makes it possible to browse through large collections of Amiga iff image files and convert them to PNG format if required. It also offers a new plugin for QuickLook, with which iff files can now be viewed again without having to open them. (dr)

Tetris variant: A100, version 1.02
In the Tetris variant "A100" (Video), new bricks are placed by the player on a square playing field, eliminating the "pieces falling down" mechanism of the original game. Once all positions in a column or row are occupied, the column/row is emptied. (amiga-news.de reported). Now a WHDLoad version is offered as well. Besides, version 1.02 fixes a bug in the ADF version when quitting the game. (dr)

Video: TheMiniCD32 as hobby project
In a video, 'Toolzzi Games' presents the current status of its self-developed "TheMiniCD32" project, a miniaturised version of the CD32. It is based on a Raspberry Pi 4 with a self-written start interface. PUAE is used as the emulator because, as the developer explains, it processes games with CDDA audio much better. Once all the development work has been completed, it is planned to offer the project as a self-assembly kit. (dr)

Emu68: Imager Tool 1.0.5.2 for Windows
The "Imager Tool" enables PiStorm users to prepare an SD card with the Motorola68K emulation Emu68 and a preconfigured AmigaOS 3 installation. Changes since our last news item:
  • 1.0.5.2: Improved the Online script to better handle where connections do not work. Where connections have failed but WirelessManager remains connected, WirelessManager is closed so the log can be accessed on the Amiga (previously the log was inaccessible as WirelessManager locks the file). The logs for WirelessManager, AddInterface from Roadshow and sntp are all concatenated and written to RAM:WirelessLogs.Txt so the user can see all the information in one place for troubleshooting
  • 1.0.5.1: Added check for encrypted Cloanto Kickstart ROMs so the user is alerted if they have chosen this ROM since it will not work on PiStorm without being decrypted

Amiga Kit (E-Mail)

Emulator hardware: Update 46.1.1151 for A1200NG and A600GS
Another software update has been released for AmigaKit's A600GS emulator platform and the ARM-based A1200NG motherboard. It is available for download to registered AmiSphere customers and includes the following changes:
  • Upgrade PlayVideo to 46.7 Avoids using NewMinList() as this is version 50 or above only. Now put up information requester if start without avcodec backend present.
  • Integrate latest builds of PeterKs icon.library for enhanced PNG datatype loading and other bugs fixes.
  • Zune: fix up behaviour of MUIV_Window_Width_MinMax()
  • Zune: Fix incorrect parsing of underscores in escape sequences resulting in the incorrect shortcut key in SimpleButtons and else where.
  • Zune: Fix duplicate GoActive methods sent to already active objects
  • Upgrade to Assign 46.11
  • Update to UnArchiver 46.4 29/06/2025
  • Update filesysbox.library to 54.7
  • Update smbfs handler to 53.10
  • Checking of license keys for add-on functionality like the CPU Boost product now takes place immediately after the first login after registration, so no longer requires autologin to be enabled.
Amigakit reccomends to disable the auto install of avcodec on startup: most users seem to upgrade with ease, but a few are having issues resulting in an update loop. To install avcodec suite manually, go to the advanced update section and choose it from the list. (cg)

Print/PDF magazine: Amiga Addict, issue 38
The new issue 38 of the British magazine Amiga Addict (June 2025) is dedicated to the long-established company HiSoft Systems. HiSoft was not only known for legendary developer tools such as Devpac and HiSoft BASIC, but also brought hardware such as the Squirrel SCSI interface and various media drives to market. In the magazine, Phil South talks to co-founder Andy Pennell (now Principal Software Engineer at Xbox) about the exciting early days of the company and its significance for the Amiga community.

In addition, this issue features a big "Amiga Shopper" retrospective with many former editors, a free cover disc download with Top Hat Willy, a special on influential role-playing games on the Amiga, and reviews of the new games Aminer, Pjusk, and LightTheLEDs. Classics such as Exile and Bump 'n' Burn are also covered in detail. In addition, the editorial team takes a look at the AMIGApril livestream event, Frank Gasking launches a new series on Games That Weren't with a feature on Dennis and Gnasher, and the Creative Revolution section focuses on vector art with Fantavision. Ravi Abbott also presents the possibilities of virtual desktops on the Amiga.

Amiga Addict 38 is now available from the publisher addict.media and in British newsagents. (nba)

Do it yourself: Programmable ROM module KickSmash32, version 1.7
KickSmash32 is a Kickstart ROM replacement module that can be programmed directly under AmigaOS as well as via USB-C from Linux and provides eight flash banks for different ROM files. Since version 1.6, the Amiga 1200, Amiga 3000 and 4000 models, as well as the Amiga 4000CR and Amiga 3000T, are supported.

The newly released version 1.7 offers the following changes:

hostsmash
  • Fixed bug where merging 512KB Amiga ROMs resulting in 1 MB image to write. This is not desirable because AmigaOS ROM images are doubled.
  • Enhanced ROM write to no longer check if area is erased, but to just prompt user for erase approval.
  • Fixed hostsmash "--clock" argument alias for "-c"
ROM switcher
  • Fixed bug introduced in 1.6 ROM switcher which can cause motherboard fast memory to go missing.
  • Fixed bank switch timeout to not abort unexpectedly at startup.
  • Fixed potential Blitter initialization bug.
  • Added polygon fill so the rendering of Kicksmash is not just line art.
Kicksmash FW
  • Fixed bug where crash could happen at long reset if longreset bank is not set
  • Fixed pin test bug where SOCKET_OE=1 might cause SOCKET_D31=1
  • Worked around M29F160 flash chip bug which prevented AmigaOS 2.04 from being flashed. Value 0x90 was being written to address 0x55, which put the flash in "READ CFI QUERY" mode, causing programming to fail.
  • Added "address" pattern to Kicksmash "patt" command.
  • Added "random" pattern to Kicksmash "patt" command.
  • Added Flash OEWE test of Q2 and Q3 based on speed of those parts. This test was implemented because AO34000A parts populated on the Rev 6a boards cause programming from the Amiga to fail because they are too slow.
  • Fixed walking bits tests in "test" command.
  • Increased Amiga UART buffer from 1024 bytes to 2048 bytes.
  • Fixed potential false error at 100% when hostsmash is writing a ROM.
  • Eliminated some variable latency in Kicksmash-Amiga CPU command replies.
smash
  • Improved flash ID test (6) to report values on failure.
  • Code to return flash to read mode now tries extra hard. This may fix crashes with "smash erase" and "smash write" commands.
  • Minor help text improvements.
  • Improved 'flash id' test failure recovery to be less likely to hang Amiga.
  • Implemented flash command sync retry when Kicksmash is late with flash command. This will hopefully resolve "flash id" test and other flash command failures.
Miscellaneous
  • Fixed bug in wdikicksmash.bat, which was fetching the wdi-simple.exe using a bad filename.
Documentation
  • Added warning about Kicksmash1200 incompatibility with TF1260.
  • Minor documentation updates.
PCBs
  • Rev Kicksmash1200 to version 7.1 (fix USB-C cutout)
(dr)

Amiga show: Amiga40 moves to a new location
Press release: Some of you have probably already noticed that the event will no longer take place in the Kunstwerk in Mönchengladbach, but in the REDBOX (soon to be called 'NEW Box'). So please note the corresponding new address for Amiga40 on 18 and 19 October 2025:

REDBOX (soon: NEW Box)
Am Nordpark 299
41069 Mönchengladbach

The REDBOX / NEW Box near Borussia Park is not only easily accessible by car, but also by public transport. Bus routes 025 and 015 offer you the opportunity to travel here from the main railway station at Europaplatz in Mönchengladbach. Choose one of these bus lines and get off at the bus stop "Mönchengladbach Weg zum Nordpark". After a short walk of 5 minutes you have reached the REDBOX / NEW Box. In the coming months there will be at least one additional line to the REDBOX / NEW Box - please note the corresponding information on our homepage or in the well-known Amiga forums.

Of course, all tickets will remain valid - however, should anyone wish to return their tickets due to the new venue, which is approx. 10 kilometres away from the Kunstwerk in Wickrath, we will allow a deadline of 15 August 2025. Anyone who has already printed out their tickets can continue to use them - and will not need new ones!

At the REDBOX / NEW Box there are 4000 parking spaces available in P4 - a daily charge of 5 euros (no guarantee). With a little patience and a short walk, you can also find free parking spaces in the immediate vicinity.

Fortunately, cash payment for food and drinks will again be possible in the REDBOX / NEW Box.

Otherwise, everything remains the same: A colorful stage program, lots of Amiga fun, exhibitors, user tables and much more! The opening hours also remain as previously communicated, and we even have a little more space available in the REDBOX / NEW Box so that we can not only offer more tables, but also 100 additional tickets for Saturday and Sunday from 2 July 2025!

We are now looking forward to pushing ahead with the planning for Amiga40 at full speed in the coming weeks! You can expect a great anniversary event for the 40th birthday of the Commodore Amiga! (cg)

Text editor: Lite XL 2.1.8r1 for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS
George “walkero” Sokianos has updated his port of the SDL-based text editor Lite XL. Version 2.1.8r1 is based for the first time on the current generation of the SDL library 'SDL3', and as a result runs about 10-15 percent slower than previous releases. The author has made extensive analyses of his code and informed the Lite XL team as well as the maintainers of SDL for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS about any optimisation potential he found. (cg)

Tetris variant: A100
In the Tetris variant "A100" (Video), new bricks are placed by the player on a square playing field, eliminating the "pieces falling down" mechanism of the original game. Once all positions in a column or row are occupied, the column/row is emptied. The game should run on any Amiga with at least 512 KB chip RAM. (cg)

AmigaOS 4: AmiUpdate V2.58
AmiUpdate is an update system for AmigaOS 4 and helps to keep system components and applications up to date. There are currently 241 entries in the database. Now version 2.58 has been released. Changes since our last news item:
  • Recompiled using the latest AmiSSL SDK, so now it should use the latest libraries.
  • Some servers (in this case Cloudfare) requiring authentication did NOT adhere to the RFC regarding the WWW-Authention header, and the case sensitive search failed. This has now been changed to a non-case-sensitive search, and should hopefully fix problems with servers requiring authentication.
  • All components have been recompiled but with no other functional changes.
  • Another issue has arisen with regards to WWW realms. This time a quote enclosed realm was leading to a duplicate entry in the sitelist. The quotes are now removed before the authentication check and should now work as expected.
  • Fixed yet another Cloudfare issue, this time with supplied headers.
  • Found an issue whilst updating the SSL routines, which led to a crash when trying to download from a website that uses SSL.

ReAction GUI for XAD: Avalanche 2.5 for AmigaOS 3 and 4
Chris Young's Avalanche is a ReAction-based graphical user interface for the unarchiving system XAD, which also supports the xfdmaster.library and can search for viruses using the xvs.library. Since version 2.1, simple editing of LhA/Zip archives also is possible (Zip requires zip.library - only under AmigaOS 4). The developer has written his tool explicitly for AmigaOS 3.2.1, but has also tested it under AmigaOS 4. Changes of version 2.5:
  • Improve editing of files - file structure is now maintained
  • Add ability to easily (un)lock the GUI for archive modifications via drag'n'drop
  • Add correct extension if missing on new archive name
  • Improve version checks and allow immediate download
Download: avalanche.lha (125 KB) (dr)

Game Construction Kit: RedPill 0.9.53
RedPill, developed by Carlos Peris, is a game construction kit written in Amiblitz 3.10.1, which allows the development of games from various genres. RedPill is compatible with AGA and ECS, the "player" for playing the finished creations requires a total of 1.5 MB RAM. Jens 'Farbfinsternis' Henschel has written a tutorial.

The new version 0.9.53 contains many corrections and improvements. The developer uses three videos – 1, 2 and 3 – to show how these improvements also simplify working with older projects. All changes in detail:
  • Added Spawn tiles functionality in Tile Properties screen. Now when tiles appear in a level they can automatically spawn non static objects. Check the Amigaguide file for more info.
  • Added support for games in Dutch language.
  • Added condition trigger Last Tile Collided to check if the object collided with a tile in the last frame.
  • Added a new action trigger Change Col Tile to change the last tile the object collided with.
  • Added a new action trigger Mouse Follow me that makes the object position be controlled by the Mouse.
  • Added an action trigger Stamp Frame to stamp a frame in the screen using the object position.
  • Now scrolling is allowed to go twice as fast (half a tile each frame).
  • Updated shotemup, ex_mapenemies and blockbreaker projects with the new map and trigger possibilities. (check Youtube)
  • In Object screen, press space to display only the objects that are present in the current level.
  • Loading screens can now be bigger, the code will center them automatically.
  • Different fixes in the profiler screen.
  • Reduced the logo size in the distribution executable to save some memory.
  • Small optimizations in object drawing.
  • Optimizations when using a big amount of variables.
  • Fixed an issue in object initialization that could lead to crashes.
  • Fix (I hope) for the editor not starting right in RTG configurations.
  • Fix in audio 3D export not working in distribution.
  • Fix for palette being the wrong one in some cases when getting back to the main menu.

AmigaOS 4: Further development steps for the clib4 library
With clib4 Andrea 'afxgroup' Palmatè is working on a variant of the official ADTools clib2, which should be specific for AmigaOS 4 in order to be easier to maintain and above all to add functions that are difficult to implement on original Amigas. At the end of April, he released version 1.6.0 of the library (amiga-news.de reported).

In a detailed development report, he describes the important changes and improvements that have been made in recent weeks to optimise and improve the library's performance in terms of speed and resource management, especially for more complex software such as the Odyssey Web Browser (amiga-news.de reported). Emulator: WinUAE 6.0.0
Version 6.0.0 of the Amiga emulator WinUAE has been released. As the developer wrote, this release is a "major update to custom chipset emulation. Internally almost everything in main chipset emulation has been rewritten. Fastest possible/JIT mode chipset timing/sync had major changes which can cause side-effects. Bugs are very possible, especially in very rarely used features." All changes:

Custom chipset rewrite
  • Custom chipset emulation (Agnus/Alice and Denise/Lisa) almost completely rewritten. Almost every part of chipset emulation is now internally cycle accurate.
  • Custom chipset Denise/Lisa emulation is now running in separate thread for large performance increase in accurate emulation modes compared to previous versions.
  • VPOSW/VHPOSW tricks are now cycle-accurately emulated without restrictions.
  • Horizontal and vertical blanking and sync start/end, csync, csync equalization pulses, etc are now fully cycle-accurately emulated, both hardwired and programmed. Mixing of hardwired and programmed is fully supported. Agnus/Alice hardwired PAL/NTSC sync generator is almost logic gate level emulated.
  • "Display" and Agnus/Alice vertical and horizontal counters are now fully separately emulated, display emulation now works correctly even if Agnus vertical or horizontal is moved backwards or forwards or anywhere (even outside of normal display range), unlimited times per line and/or field.
  • All screenmodes (including "Fake" NTSC or similar mode) now count total number of "display" lines and uses it to setup display height. These modes now work even if they do multiple V(H)POSW modifications.
  • Interlace detection now uses vsync timing like real displays.
  • BPLCON0 ERSY=1 without connected genlock sync stop timing is now accurate. This was faked previously.
  • Full AGA hires/shres bitplane and sprite horizontal granularity support. Separate subpixel mode does not exist anymore.
  • ECS Agnus/AGA UHRES bitplane and sprite RGA DMA slots (0x78, 0x7a) emulated. Completely useless feature because UHRES can only do some DMA transfers to nowhere. It needs extra hardware that was never implemented. UHRES needs to be emulated because (possibly accidentally enabled) UHRES DMA can steal cycles from copper, blitter and CPU.
  • NTSC LOL (long line) state is accurately emulated. Mismatched STRLONG strobe and LOL state now causes correct lores pixel wide horizontal shift. (Mismatched = for example CPU writing to STRLONG when line is not long)
  • Blitter channel sequencer should be 100% accurate now, except possibly line to non-line mid operation switch. Blitter "micro-operation" timings are not yet 100%: when exactly it applies A shift, B shift etc. This will be tested and implemented in the future. Only affects blitter result if BLTxDAT/shifts/etc are modified mid-blit. Channel enable/fill mode/desc/minterm/BLTxMOD/BLTxPT mid-blit changes should be already fully accurate.
  • Collision emulation is now very fast. Collision mode default changed to Full collision.
  • Ultra extreme debug mode now shows normally hidden bitplane and sprite pixels inside horizontal and vertical blanking periods. Previously only background color was fully visible.
  • DMA debugger has much more detailed information available.
Other new features
  • Low level keyboard emulation. Emulates keyboard microcontroller internal ROM code and keyboard matrix, optionally with or without NKRO. All 3 keyboard MCU variants supported. (CSG 6570-036, 68HC05C and D8039HLC. 6500-1 used in A1000 keyboards is same as 6570-036 but with older ROM code. 6500-1 ROM is not yet dumped). Caps lock led state is fully emulated in low level keyboard emulation modes, including demos that flash caps lock led. Chipset panel “Keyboard connected” checkbox replaced with Keyboard mode (“Disconnected”, “UAE high level keyboard” and list of different low level emulated keyboard models)
  • PCI Matrox Millennium, Millennium II, Mystique and Mystique 220 emulation from 86box (originally from PCem)
  • Merged Voodoo 3 emulation updates from 86box.
  • Added 512kWOM A1000 512k WOM expansion emulation. Option in Expansions->Built-in expansions.
  • Added RIPPLE IDE controller emulation.
Fixes
  • Prometheus FireStorm PCI bridge PCI IO mapping fixed.
  • Fixed Mediator 1200TX second PCI window mapping logic.
  • Fixed TekMagic onboard RAM config type.
  • Do not reject (reject = not hardware accelerated, lets Picasso96 software fallback to handle it) uaegfx Picasso96 blit operation if RenderInfo BytesPerRow field is zero. Zero BPR is allowed.
  • GDI mode didn’t free all resources when switching between native and RTG mode.
  • If selected graphics API is not supported, test all other options. Previously failing D3D9 switched to GDI, even if D3D11 was available.
  • Fast/non-accurate emulation mode and writing to CIA high timer register didn’t load timer from latch immediately in oneshot mode if timer was already running (Introduced in 4.9.x)
  • uaegfx RTG vertical blank interrupt might have been duplicated or lost in some situations (very old bug), depending on RTG panel refresh rate setting.
  • Passthrough printing mode fix for v4+ Windows printer drivers.
  • Fixed FDI disk image support.
  • JIT FPU mode FPU registers lost some accuracy when FPU registers were read/written to/from memory with FMOVEM.
  • Removing last sound device on the fly (for example USB sound card without enabled on-board sound device) crashed in WASAPI mode.
  • Added A1000 EHB Denise and non-EHB Denise models to Chipset panel. Also renamed existing entries.
  • Fixed strange window movement when clicking on title bar and keeping it pressed and "Automatically capture mouse when window is activated" was enabled.
  • Expansion panel SCSI controller ID selection enable/disable/selection fixed. (For example A4091)
Updates
  • Default configuration is now cycle-exact A500. Previously default was approximate A500.
  • Query PC drive/network drive/removable drive status only after confirming drive type first. For example if "Add PC drives at startup" or "CDFS automount" is only ticked, don't query status of possible network drives that might not be mapped or available, causing boot delays.
  • CD32 CD reads should be more real optical drive friendly, when CD32 is reading data sequentially (playing CD streaming animation or video), host side CD sector reads are now also sequential, without periodically re-reading part of previously read sectors.
  • Disabled annoying CD audio playback aOSD led flicker.
  • When exiting debugger, restore focus back to previously active window.
  • If real HD/memory card has Windows supported partition table and partition metadata can be queried without administrator privileges but administrator privileges are needed to read/write partition data, list partition(s) in Add Harddrive dialog with "ACCESS DENIED" text. Previously partition(s) were not listed.
  • Added Amiga GPT partition type support. Works the same as 0x76 partition type with MBR partitioned drives.
  • Add harddrive Lock option didn't lock all partitions if drive had MBR partition table + one or more Windows supported partition types.
  • GUI Configurations file list’s expanded tree nodes are now stored in registry/ini and are loaded and expanded automatically in following sessions.
  • Hide expansion device "autoboot disabled" checkbox when device does not have any autoboot jumpers. (or have nothing to do with storage devices)
  • Integer scale horizontal/vertical resolution aspect ratio correction should now work more sanely (for example if superhires + vertical doubling, output will be always vertically doubled first, after doubling, integer scaling ratio is selected). Supports also programmed doublescan modes.
  • TV Overscan options now work when combined with most filter modes.
  • Added (config file only currently, "rtg_noautomodes=true") option that disables uaegfx automatically generated screen modes. With Picasso96 v3.4+ and P96Prefs new modes can be created manually, just like when using real hardware. Note: Older Picasso96 versions and PicassoMode utility don’t support manual uaegfx modes.
  • Added 3840×1080 to known uaegfx automatically generated resolution list (“known” = gets static mode id)
  • Fixed crash when doubleclicking config tree view root node.
  • Subpixel emulation option removed. Emulation is now always subpixel accurate in accurate emulation modes.
  • On the fly chipset type switching improved (For example AGA colors are now preserved, not all registers were preserved fully previously)
  • Added line count and type to bottom border status line (for example 313p or 625i), fully supports all weird modes.
  • Obsolete 16-bit host color depth support removed.
  • All software filters removed. Removal of 16-bit host screen depth support and always-enabled temporary graphics buffer (new chipset emulation does not need it anymore) makes software filter support unnecessarily complex and they are obsolete anyway. In the future better shader filter support will be implemented.
  • Serial port TCP/IP mode uses now TCP_NODELAY flag to reduce latency.
  • If selected WASAPI sound channel mode is not supported, try all possible channel modes until supported mode is found, or until all combinations have been tested. Also if channel count needs changing from stereo to higher channel count (for example sound device only supports 6 or 8 CH modes internally), use 6/8 channel cloned stereo variant because user might only have stereo speakers.
  • Limit initial Windows to Amiga clipboard copy to max 30k (initial = when Amiga is booted and Windows clipboard is not empty) if clipboard sharing is enabled. This prevent slow startup if clipboard sharing is enabled and configuration is not fast and Windows clipboard has some random large image.
  • Added address and length to sample ripper file names.

Cloanto (ANF)

Cloanto releases Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 11
Press release: July 3, 2025 - Cloanto today released version 11 (build 11.0.22.0) of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever, the official Commodore/Amiga preservation, emulation and support suites for Windows.

More than two years in the making, this new generation expands into the physical world with high-fidelity virtual printers, touchscreen input, and handheld device support, bridging classic computing with modern interaction.

Each of the new virtual printers (EpsonQ, MPS 803, and CBM 8026) was engineered to be best in class, delivering vector-sharp text, high-resolution color graphics, and live previews. These are not only unmatched in the emulation space, but also raise the bar for what virtual printing can achieve overall.

For advanced Amiga users who prefer PostScript printing, a new integration with the optional Ghostscript software makes it possible to render Amiga PostScript to non-PostScript printers, or to convert the output to vector-based PDF.

On the CBM 8-bit side, two virtual printers are featured. The MPS 803 recreates an accurate dot matrix experience, using scalable vector dots. The CBM 8026 provides a new benchmark for printing and preserving listings and documents, as it combines laser-quality text with "quote mode", reverse and PETSCII characters. These capabilities were missing from the original (slow and expensive) daisy wheel hardware.

All printers have a wide-carriage option and extended character sets, including European and Japanese characters used across C128, C64, VIC 1001, and VIC 20 models. Version 11 also includes PETSCII TrueType fonts for accurate export and editing of printed output.

For maximum nostalgia, a virtual fanfold paper option renders perforations and cut marks to recreate the ultimate "retro printer" effect. As one enthusiastic user put it: "I've always wanted to print in the old dot matrix style on modern printers." Thanks to Cloanto's RetroPlatform framework, which provides shared access to virtual devices like modems and printers across systems, it's even possible to connect 8-bit printers to the Amiga, or to have older systems like a PET or a C64 use EpsonQ or PostScript emulation (geoPublish and geoWrite, anyone?)

Version 11 also adds native touchscreen input, with support for swipe, pan and pinch gestures, plus multi-touch functionality for the virtual keyboard. The keyboard itself can now be operated in a new Overlay mode (in addition to Docked and Floating), designed for fullscreen use and interaction via touchscreen or game controller.

With 2025 shaping up to be a pivotal year for handheld devices, Amiga Forever 11 and C64 Forever 11 bring together touchscreen features, the new overlay virtual keyboard, and expanded game controller shortcuts (including multi-button combinations) into a unified experience optimized for portable use.

Hundreds of smaller new features and refinements also made it into these new versions. Windows too went through several new releases since the previous major release of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever, and the new code base provides better support for features introduced in Windows 11 and Windows 10 versions up to 25H2.

As always, we remain grateful to the many friends who support this project and share our passion, vision and hope for the Amiga and CBM 8-bit heritage.

Amiga Forever 11 is available now in three editions: C64 Forever 11 is available now in three editions: Both packages recognize and work with each other, with options to merge the different platforms into the same interface.

Prices start from $9.95. Version 11 is free for Lifetime Upgrades customers and to anyone who purchased version 10 on or after March 1, 2025.

Visual Tours

Here are some suggested highlights for YouTubers and others who prefer a more visual exploration. Some celebrate the classic 8-bit CBM systems, while others showcase features shared with the more advanced Amiga environments.
  • Amiga - Print like it's 2025? Start "Amiga 4000 Enhanced 3.X" from the Systems folder, click Clown.pic at the bottom, then select Print from the Project menu. Explore the new print and preview features. Press Ctrl + Scroll wheel to zoom in and out. To preview in color, make sure the selected Destination printer supports it (e.g. Microsoft Print to PDF). Prefer a slower experience where you can literally watch yellow, magenta and cyan stripes appear one by one? Start "Amiga 2000 Enhanced 1.3", then launch GraphicDump (inside Utilities). Be patient, as this configuration emulates a CPU running at the speed it had 40 years ago.
  • 8-Bit - Curious about how the iconic MPS 803 6×7 dot matrix printer worked, or want to introduce a new generation to vintage computing? Check out the "MPS 803 Printer Playground" title in C64 Forever (under Applications). It includes the MPS 803 User Guide and all sample listings ready to load from disk, where they are named after the corresponding manual page. For example, to load the zodiac listing from pages 31-32 type LOAD"PAGE31B",8. When you RUN the program, the Print dialog opens automatically to preview the output.
  • Shared - BBS like it's 1985: in C64 Forever, launch CCGMS! (Applications folder), then connect to one of the BBS entries in the phone book. To do so, press <F7> to go to the dialer and parameters screen, press <A> to go to the phone book screen, use the cursor keys to select a BBS, then press <C> to connect to it. You are online!
  • 8-Bit - Amber PET? In C64 Forever, set the PET/CBM system colors to amber (Tools/Options/Emulation/Hardcoded Palettes), then start a PET/CBM system from the Systems folder.
  • Shared - Light vs. Dark Mode, via Tools/Options/Skin.
  • Shared - Arcade and Tile modes, via View menu. Be sure to try out fullscreen Arcade mode (via the maximize button on the title bar), and to use it with a game controller or by swiping on a touchscreen.
  • Shared - Virtual Keyboard: launch a configuration like "Amiga 4000 Enhanced 3.X" (in the Systems folder) and then double-click the keyboard menu at the bottom left of the playback window to open the Virtual Keyboard. Inside the emulation, open the Input Prefs and change the keyboard to a different language (e.g. German). Did you notice how the virtual keyboard on the Windows side also updated its layout? And still, it all keeps working with your unchanged physical PC keyboard, no matter what layout that one has. Then on closing the session you can choose whether to commit the keyboard layout change to the title configuration, or not. If you prefer fullscreen modes, try out the new Overlay type of virtual keyboard. If the keyboard covers an input field, drag to reposition it.
  • 8-Bit - Virtual Mouse: start an 8-bit title (e.g. a PET 2001, or 8032, or C64) from the Systems folder of C64 Forever, and use the mouse to move the text cursor around. If you ever spent a lot of time programming or writing on those systems, isn't this something you've been wanting to do for more than 40 years?
  • Shared - Fullscreen Controls: start or switch any Amiga or 8-bit emulation session to fullscreen (use the button in the top row of the playback window), then hold down the Escape key for one second to open the fullscreen controls. These can be selected with the mouse, with the keyboard, or with the same controllers you are using to play. At last, you can swap disks, pause, resume, save, etc., without needing to leave your favorite screen mode and controls.
  • Shared - Type Clipboard Text: use the keyboard menu at the bottom left of the playback window to paste the content of the Windows text clipboard. Works with any Amiga or 8-bit system (in Japanese too...)

Platformer: Krogharr released
Michael 'Tigerskunk' Borrmann's platform game Krogharr was supposed to be released at the end of April (amiga-news.de reported), and now it's finally here: for around 13 euros, you can try to hold your own against carefully hand-pixelated opponents (video). The game requires an Amiga 500 with 1 MB of RAM.

In addition to purchasing the purely digital version, Poly.Play also offers a "boxed edition" with a floppy disk or CD³² version for pre-order. Delivery from 1 August 2025. (dr)

APC&TCP: Merchandising items for the 40th Amiga birthday
Press release: "The Amiga will soon be 40 years old, and we've been thinking long and hard about what we could do. Users who were at the ARC or saw photos from the ARC do already know what we're talking about. :)

Red Aqua Media designed last year what we think is a beautiful motif for the Amiga's 40th anniversary. We naturally took advantage of this opportunity, and almost twenty "40 Years of Amiga" merchandise items are now available in our online shop. Depending on whether we receive further requests or have other good ideas, there will be more "40 Years of Amiga" products available throughout the year." (snx)

Group of investors represented by Youtuber Perifractic buys Commodore
Three weeks ago, Youtuber Christian 'Perifractic' Simpson announced in a video that he had received an offer to take over Commodore B.V., the owner of the remaining Commodore trademark rights. In a second video published today he now announces the completed takeover: A group of unnamed angel investors has acquired the company for a low seven-figure sum. He himself is now the acting CEO, but the purchase price has not yet been paid - the company is still looking for investors. In the half-hour video, Simpson lists a whole series of former Commodore employees (Michael Tomczyk, Bil Herd, David Pleasance, support staff such as James Harrison and Hans Olsen) or actor Thomas Middleditch ("Silicon Valley") as future "advisors". A financial participation of the community is not yet possible, as the international legal hurdles are too high. Commodore plans to revive the time before social networks and artificial intelligence, when computer technology was still considered a utopia rather than the scourge of mankind, with new "retro-futuristic" products. The years around the turn of the millennium are cited as a model several times.

There already seems to be a pretty clear idea of what Commodore's first "retro-futuristic" product will be - but Simpson won't reveal exactly what it is until the next video. Once again, however, the Youtuber praises the Linux distribution Commodore OS Vision, which was created during the Commodore USA era by former Commodore USA and future Commodore CTO Leo Nigro. This time it is explicitly described as "retro-futuristic", analogous to the planned hardware product.

In addition to further investors, in order to actually be able to pay the sum called for the sale, the company is currently looking for a social media manager and "merchandise designers".

Editor's note: The Dutch company Commodore B.V., which Simpson and his investors have acquired, owns the "Commodore" trade marks and the "Chickenlips" logo. The rights to the Amiga brands and all 8-bit and Amiga software went to Gateway after the ESCOM bankruptcy and are now owned by Michael Battilana's Amiga Corp (cg) (Translation: cg)

PC extension: mount HD partition from "KCS Power PC Board" on AmigaOS
The KCS Power PC Board equips an A500 or A2000 with a miniature DOS PC - the computer can then be operated alternatively in Amiga or PC mode. Sander von der Burg has succeeded in developing a simple device driver for AmigaOS that mounts any DOS partitions created by the PC on AmigaOS. The developer describes the problem and his solution in a blog entry, version 0.0.1 of the driver as well as the corresponding source code are available on Github. (cg)

AmiKit In A Box: Raspberry Pi 5 with Workbench distribution
The well-known Workbench distribution AmiKit is now also available for purchase together with a fully configured Raspberry Pi 5 mini-computer - only the operating system itself still needs to be added as usual.

Read below our translation of the official press release:

AmiKit In A Box

AmiKit is now available as a complete system (Workbench 3.x and a Kickstart ROM are additionally required, for example from Amiga Forever or an AmigaOS 4.1 CD - alternatively AmigaOS XL/3.5/3.9/3.1.4 is also possible).

What is AmiKit?

AmiKit is a Workbench distribution that runs via AmiBerry on a Raspberry Pi 5, and can also run AmigaOS 3.x right at boot time, so that unlike a UAE/AmiBerry system on a PC, AmigaOS 3.x is started directly. In addition to AmigaOS 3.1, AmigaOS 3.2 is also supported (in the latter case, AmigaOS 3.1 must be installed first, after which the update to AmigaOS 3.2 takes place).

What do you get?

A set-up Raspberry Pi 5 in a stylish case (with AmiKit logo), equipped with storage medium, power supply and active cooling, everything already assembled. The storage medium is already flashed so that you can boot directly and install AmigaOS 3.x (e.g. via a USB stick). In addition to the AmigaOS version, you also need a USB mouse and a USB keyboard (keyboards from AmigaOne systems or the Apollo Vampire do also work).

AmiKit is a very professional workbench distribution. During the installation process, this distribution (which, as already mentioned, also requires an AmigaOS 3.x license and a corresponding installation medium) is installed, which contains a comprehensive software package.

"AmiKit In A Box" is the fastest hardware solution for AmigaOS 3.x available. Heretic 2, for example, runs at a resolution of 640x480 pixels at around 50 fps (faster than the PowerPC version on an AmigaOne x1000 with software rendering, and also significantly faster than on all other Raspberry-based 68k solutions). With moderate overclocking, the frame rate for games such as Heretic 2 goes up to 56 fps (for comparison: 63 fps with software renderer and 640x480 pixels on an AmigaOne x5000). The system is also used by Steffen 'MagicSN' Häuser to test his 68k game developments (e.g. Heretic 2, Gorky 17, RetroArch).

Further informationen can be found at the title link as well as on YouTube: AmiKit In A Box is available for 239,95 EUR (incl. VAT). (snx)

Physical edition of Dr. Dangerous now available
A physical box edition of the action game "Dr. Dangerous - Secrets of the Temple of Xol'Tan" from HooGames2017 (amiga-news.de reported), which was released last year, is now available. The collector's edition comes with numerous new features and improvements.

The revised version of the disk edition offers new difficulty levels (Easy, Medium and Hard), which provide more variety with adapted game mechanics. For the first time, checkpoints can be set at any time in Easy mode, making the game more accessible and easier to play. At the same time, the classic appeal for pros remains fully intact in Hard mode.

Four brand new levels expand the adventure and provide additional fun. The music has also been revised: Barry Leitch (known for Lotus Turbo Challenge, among others) and ZEKAVEO, who has already made a name for himself with the soundtrack to the Android game "The Mystical Quest", are responsible for the new soundscape and give the game a dense, atmospheric soundscape.

In addition, minor visual adjustments have been made to make certain sections even more harmonious, and loading times have also been significantly improved. Finally, the game is now available in German, French and Spanish as well as English.

The boxed version of Dr. Dangerous including download option is now offered for 29,00 Euro. (nba)

Snork 0.1: New Tracer/Logger for AmigaOS 4
Snork, a new tool for monitoring and logging function calls in system libraries, is now available to AmigaOS 4 users. The tool is aimed at developers and experienced users who want to debug applications or analyze the behavior of the system.

Inspired by Snoopy, a popular 68k debugger by Gerson Kurz from 1994, Snork follows a similar, script-based approach. While the original relied on SetFunction and does not work on AmigaOS 4, Snork uses modern mechanisms such as IExec->SetMethod to specifically monitor current library interfaces.

In contrast to existing tools such as glSnoop by Capehill or Snoopy by Colin Wenzel, which focus on specific libraries, Snork is designed to support a wide range of system libraries in the future. The current first version includes support for dos.library and intuition.library; functions with a variable number of arguments are not yet supported, but are planned for future updates, as is support for additional libraries.

Event: "Finnish Amiga Users Group" at Vectorama 2025
From 5 to 8 June, Vectorama 2025 took place in Oulu, Finland, an online gaming event aimed at people of all ages. The Finnish Amiga Users Group was also there, organising an Amiga stand and several gaming competitions at the event. They report:

"There were a high score competition in Lotus 2 and multiplayer tournaments in Stunt Car Racer and Lotus 2 with null-modem linked Amigas. The prizes included medals and freshly printed copies of the PDF computer magazine Saku: the latest issue 52, with 248 pages, had just been published. The stand featured six A1200 setups (with Blizzard 1230 accelerators and PiStorm32-lite), A500 with Gotek, THEA500 Mini, and two MorphOS setups for entering scores and displaying a live leaderboard and other information. The event was successful with about 2000 people attending, and there wasn't a moment without anyone playing on Amigas."

All released videos and photos can be found at the title link. (dr)
