Text viewer: EvenMore 0.63-16/2/07
The latest version of the text viewer EvenMore contains the following changes:
- Changed memory allocation commands to AmigaE specific ones, to see if this will fix the crashing people are experiencing. Let me know if this works
- Also fixed a bug in the ASL and RT requesters, in which no file pattern was specified if not saved in the preferences
- Fixed problem with preferences plugin again!
- Fixed two very silly bugs. One in the Datatypes.plugin, which caused EvenMore to read past the end of a file
- Another bug caused EvenMore to crash when changing the screenmode in the prefs plugin. Both plugins updated
- Updated manual for Quickload executables

Linux: PowerPC-version of Ubuntu from version 7.04 inofficial
The Technical Board has decided that from version 7.04 the PowerPC version of the Linux distribution Ubuntu has only the status "inofficial".
This means that in future the Community Team is responsible for the PowerPC version and therefore this version may has a slower development than the official version if the team cannot perform tests and bug fixes in time.
The previous PowerPC versions of Ubuntu will be supported in limited time. As an example Ubuntu 6.06 LTS on PowerPC-servers will be supported until 2011.

Harald Evers deceased
Already on November 30, 2006, Harald Evers was deceased due to a heart attack at the age of 49 years. Harald Evers should still be in the memories of many Amiga owners via the "Weltenschmiede" and his games "Das Stundenglas", "Die Kathedrale" and "Hexuma." "Die Kathedrale" was published as a novel by him as well.
However, Harald Evers has reached a considerably higher name recognition as author of the fantasy circle "Die Höhlenwelt-Saga" which spanned eight volumes.
Under the title link, an obituary by Mick Schnelle (ex-Amiga Joker, ex-Gamestar) for Harald Evers is to be found. Detailed information on the works of the deceased is found on his homepage. (snx) (Translation: cad)

Graphics Program: SView5 2.10
Andreas Kleinert has released an update to his graphics program SView5 for AmigaOS and MorphOS. The included version 10.1 of the SView5.library now recognizes a total of 103 formats.
Compared to the previous version, which was released three weeks ago, the improvements in SView5 2.10 itself include, among other things, that it is now possible to select rectangular areas of a picture via the GUI, that is, with the mouse, and apply any SVOperators on the selected area only (and namely for so long until the selection is canceled or changed).
In combination with the (unlimited) undo and auto-preview function, which is also quite new, one can experiment to one's heart's content (for example, processing only the red eyes on a photo).
In a similar manner, a color selection, too, can be carried out graphically (for example, an alpha color or the transparency in GIF/PNG). Likewise, it continues to be possible to specify the particular selection pixel-exact, or, alternatively, color-exact, as integer/hex values via requesters.
The remaining improvements concern minor changes with respect to user-friendliness more than anything else.
A detailed English listing of the changes in version 2.10 of SView5 (improvements in the SView5.library not considered) is found in the accompanying AmigaGuide file:
- PNG-Box:
- Updated to libpng 1.2.15
- Increased minimum sview5.library requirements to V10
- Increased minimum sview5support.library requirements to V3
- Updated date and copyright information
- JPEG-Box:
- Increased minimum sview5.library requirements to V10
- Increased minimum sview5support.library requirements to V3
- Updated date and copyright information
- Added two more checkbox gadgets, one for the Save button
and one for symmetry (yet always disabled)
- The checkbox button besides the Save button now activates
the automatic generation of the default file extension
(e.g. .ilbm/.png/.jpg) when opening the file requester
prior to saving a file; note that it is still possible
to just ignore this recommendation and change the file
name not to have an extension; ARexx is not affected
by the checkbox setting
- Opening any file requester now causes a busy mouse pointer
- Added new ARexx command "AREASELECT" for selecting an
SVOperator action area via Arexx (instead of the GUI)
- Added support for new "AREA" .cpinfo data type, which
allows to select an area visually and pass the
rectangle coordinates as ControlPad parameter
to SV#? modules in form "SV_AREA=left,top,width,height";
e.g. as parameter to Cut/Crop SV5Operator;
NOTE: This works on a real graphics visually only,
in case there is one loaded (otherwise manually
entering a string is required);
any previously selected "global" area will be
released, then; selection of a global area
on the other hand will overwrite (delete)
a previous local SV_AREA in the .controlpad
- Added support for new "COLOR_#?" .cpinfo data types,
which allow to select a color/component visually and pass
the result as ControlPad parameter to SV#? modules
e.g. as parameter to AddAlpha SV5Operator;
OR when e.g. selecting the transparent color of a GIF/PNG
image prior to saving it (cf. GIF-Box5/PNG-Box5)
NOTE: This works on a real graphics visually only,
in case there is one loaded (otherwise manually
entering a string is required)
- Results of SV5Operators which result in de-facto size changes
will be rejected for area operations now (size mismatch error)
- SV5Operators which have the -new- "size change" flag set,
are rejected for area operations (size mismatch error)
- The 4 CTA commands for ASL file requester dimension settings
have been replaced by a single new one (you will have to
redo your settings)
- After using an ASL file requester the first time, size
and position are not remembered (and saved into the configuration
in case it is saved afterwards); no more need to manually hack
it into your configuration file the first time
- The default file requester size/pos now is always determined
from the screen size using a simple formula
- Added new CTA command VISUAL_PREFS for controlling the new
visual area/color selection mechanism (on/off - default is on)
- The SV5Driver settings are no longer globally changed for
all programs, but only locally within SView5 (regardless
whether changed on the GUI, via Config or via Arexx)
- Increased minimum sview5.library requirements to V10
- Also updated the .guide file regarding sview5(support).library
minimum requirements
- Further minor changes
- Included sview5.library V10.1 (see there)

Cross-Platform Slideshow Software: S5 1.3
Christian Effenberger has upgraded the open slideshow software S5 (built on version 1.2a2, the last version released by Eric Meyer) with some features and released this version 1.3 as public domain again.
S5 ("Simple Standards-based Slide Show System") is about a browser-based presentation system, in which an XHTML document provides the contents, CSS sees to the layout and the appearance, and JavaScript manages the dynamic aspects of the presentation.
The most important improvements:
- Images are now scaled synchronously with the text
- Slides and incremental images are faded in and out softly
- Automatic, time-controlled playback was integrated
- Support for background music and noises
- The navigation panel was adapted to the new features and extended
- Four new themes that use the extended options
S5 1.3 runs on Gecko, Webkit and Opera-based browsers. Since the author does not possess a PC with Windows and Internet Explorer 6 or 7, he needs help from the user community to solve the problems which surely crop up with this browser.

Geit.de: IRCom 2.10, IRComRemote 2.10, MMKeyboard 3.24, Meridian 2.23
Guido Mersmann has released a new driver system with IRCom as well as a corresponding application with IRComRemote. Furthermore, his programs MMKeyboard and Meridian were updated accordingly.
The author asks to note that a special support forum is available for all programs. To save work, questions of general concern would please be asked there, so that he must answer only once. Furthermore, the users there can help one another as well, which normally takes place faster.
IRCom V2.10
First public version of the new driver system. With these drivers, IR signals can be emitted and received. With it, applications like video players can be controlled with a remote control, but external devices like TV's and CD players can be controlled from the computer as well.
In addition to the ircom.library, the driver package contains drives and Poseidon classes for IgorPlug, IRTrans and SimpleRxd hardware as well.
With the IRComPrefs program, setting up the drivers can be carried out.
The IRComRemoteEditor allows learning remote controls and embedding the buttons in a database, which is available for all programs.
Various shell commands allow sending and receiving IR signals and controlling scripts with IR signals.
In addition, the package is accompanied by an IRTrans initializer, which replaces the Windows software.
IRComRemote V2.10
IRComRemote is an application for the IRCom driver system. It allows complete computer control with the remote control. Programs can be launched, closed, windows and screens can be switched, windows can be moved, mouse clicks can be generated and much more.
MMKeyboard V3.24
The IRCom support was no longer compatible to the final version and led to crashes. In addition, many changes were conducted in the manual and an "Über..." ("About...") menu item was added. The problems with the final update to AmigaOS 4.0 should also be history with the new version.
Meridian V2.23
Like in MMKeyboard, the IRCom support here was no longer compatible to the final version either, which led to crashes. Likewise, many changes were conducted in the manual, an "Über..." ("About...") menu item was added and the problems with the final update to AmigaOS 4.0 were solved. (snx) (Translation: cad)
