Hardware: A-EON announced AmigaOne X1000
Finally after a one-week marketing-campaign today the Belgian-British company A-EON has published detailed information on his AmigaOS 4-hardware which will be called "AmigaOne X1000". According to the website the X1000 is supposed to be availble "still before summer" and will help to establish the Amiga again as combination of "great hardware as well as great Operating System".

They are not still allowed to call the name of the used CPU. Currently it is available only very limited. Most of the readers probably had never seen "one in the wild". "It's a dual-core Power Architecture CPU, with a very low Thermal Design Point".

The specifications of the X1000-motherboard, called "Nemo":
  • ATX Formfactor
  • Dual-core PowerISAâ„¢ v2.04+ CPU
  • "Xena" XMOS XS1-L1 128 SDS
  • 7.1 channel HD audio
  • 4x DDR2 RAM slots
  • 10x USB 2.0
  • 1x Gigabit Ethernet
  • 2x PCIe x16 slots (1x16 or 2x8)
  • 2x PCIe x1 slots
  • 1x Xorro slot
  • 2x PCI legacy slots
  • 2x RS232
  • 4x SATA 2 connectors
  • 1x IDE connector
  • JTAG connector
  • 1x Compact Flash

"Xena" is the configurable microcontroller called XCore produced by XMOS

On a discussion on amigaworld.net Robert Trevor Dickinson ("TrevorDick") from A-EON said that the CPU of the X1000 has definitely more than 1,2 Ghz. (cg) (Translation: dr)

AmigaOS 4: RunInUAE r2
Christopher Handley's RunInUAE enables to use the Amiga emulator E-UAE under AmigaOS 4. E-UAE has to be installed before. With the release 2 loading of games on several disks should now work.

Changes in release 2 of RunInUAE:
  • Hopefully fixed HD installed games not starting for some people (please reinstall Workbench 3.1)
  • Added automatic loading of multi-disk games
  • Per-drawer & per-game config files now work with ADFs (bug fix)
  • Now opens an App Window for you to drop games on; easier than dropping them on its AmiDock icon
  • A new icon, thanks to David Braconnier
  • Improved installer & manual, thanks to user feedback

PR-campaign: Is Hyperion announcing new hardware? (2nd Update)
At the screenshots of the Firefox-port Timberwolf published two dys ago the website a-eon.com could be seen. Smart users figured out that this website belongs to Ben Hermans (Hyperion Entertainment) and obviously has hidden some hints to Hyperion's next project.

By clicking the graphics on each site you can release another text or get the next hint (1.html, 2.html, 3.html, 4.html). Each day a-eon.com will be completed with another hint. Again and again you can read the terms "OMEN" or ("OM"), "ENIGMA" and "AEON" with which users tried to make anagrams.

The hint added today plays with these terms and then shows the text "Have you figured it out yet?". The I-dot at "it" is something more dark - if you move the mouse cursor above it you get the reaction: "(Oh no! Don't look at that!".

If you ignore this warning and have a look at the I-dot you will see that it is a highly scaled down photo. A photo which apparently shows a part of a motherboard. In a thread at amigaworld.net Hans-Jörg "Rogue" Frieden explained that it is more than "just" new hardware. Further information will be available tomorrow.

According to the Belgian Staatsblad (PDF-document) the company A-EON was founded in April 2009 by Ben Hermans and the both British men Robert Trevor Dickinson and Anthony Moorley.

Update: (03.01.10, 12:14, snx)
Meanwhile almost the complete mainboard is visible, also one further picture was found on the server which seems to show part of a case.

2nd Update: (03.01.10, 13:52, snx)
Hans-Jörg Frieden adds that the slots on the mainboard are two PCIe x16, three PCIe x1, two PCI 33 MHz and finally one "Xorro" slot, with the latter being in line with the third PCIe 1x slot. All 16 lanes of the PCIe x16 slot can be used only if just one slot is occupied, though, otherwise two times eight lanes are used.

The javascript file (4.js) used for today's page confirms that the CPU is a PowerPC - and according to another picture already found on the server it seems to provide more than one core. At the second still covered position on the mainboard, there seems to be a chip called "Xena" which might serve as a custom chip. (cg) (Translation: dr)
