individual Computers: Delfina - The DSP makes the difference!
Press release Soundcards for the Amiga are continuously popular, but only one soundcard has a freely programmable DSP - a specialized audio processor. With this concept, the Delfina strictly follows the old Amiga idea to do as much work as possible with specialized hardware in order to take load off the main processor. We have taken over the Delfina from Petsoff in 2003, but only published a software update once.
After more than four years, we are especially happy that Axel Schneider has taken over the development of the delfina.library in his spare time since October 2007. The original author Teemu Suikki (Finland) has published large parts of the Delfina software under different open-source licenses. For the first time, we are publishing the source code for drivers of a product that you can still buy in the shops and that is actively developed. Although it seems to be quite fashionable to increase prices for classic Amiga hardware, we don't see a reason to follow that trend. The price of the Delfina "flipper edition" of 129.- EUR (*) is still more than 140.- EUR below the price of the predecessors made by Petsoff.
The new library also allows connecting the Delfina to a 26-pin expansion port of our Zorro cards like Buddha and X-Surf (older models). Crashes that occured especially on fast accelerators and under high DSP-load are probably completely eliminated. There are still some issues when playing back web radio streams with a bitrate of 256 kbit or more that we could not trace back to the delfina library. Find out more in the readme file of the archive.
The software support for the older Delfina cards (made 1999 or earlier) is still in the drivers, but it is not maintained or tested anymore. We recommend the use of a new card made by individual Computers.

Picture archive as addendum to the manual: delfina_pictures.zip (421 KB)
* = recommended retail price including 19% VAT. Prices at resellers may differ. Shipping cost added when mail-ordering. (snx)

Origyn Web Browser 1.2 and 1.20
The AmigaOS and AmigaOS 4-ports of the Origyn Web Browser (OWB) are available in version 1.2 and 1.20. In version 1.20 the scrolling was improved and in version 1.2 (68k-version) fixes some bugs of the SDL library concerning the keyboard input.
Furthermore the speed was increased and you can now open links with the target "_blank" (in the same frame). GIF-animations cannot be played any longer because it slows down the browser too much. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Review: PCI-Board Mediator TX with graphic board Radeon 9200
For the new PCI-board Mediator TX developed by Elbox a first review was published under the title link.
The author is very satisfied concerning delivery components, support as well as functionality. There were only problems with the Radeon graphic board because the model which was chosen by the tester was still not supported by the first driver version. But Elbox published an update of the driver and then it worked. Finally the author had to modificate the Infinitiv tower in order to use the graphic board.

Script: Final version of Convert2CDXL
The script Convert2CDXL, in its final version which is available from now on, handles the conversion to PPM images totally automatically with the integration of ffmpeg. In addition, the PPM images can be scaled to half, quarter or eighth of their size.
Further improvements are the manual in AmigaGuide format and an enhancement of the XL start script. An optimization was carried out for processors from 68020 up to 68060. (snx) (Translation: cad)

AmigaOS 4: Cinnamon Writer 0.52 (beta)
Press release Cinnamon Writer (CW) is a WYSIWYG writer application under development. The main objective of CW is to be a small efficient word processor with the most often used features seen in other professional word processors (screenshot).
Version 0.5 is much faster than the previous version. It offers most of the basic and most often used functionality expected from a word processor (selectable fonts, font size, text alignment, line space, text color, highlight color, bullets, underline, super/subscript etc).
The documents are saved in RTF format that ensures maximum compatibility with other word processors. At a later stage of development, other save formats will be available.
The icons set used in CW is the work of Martin 'Mason' Merz. (Thank you Martin!)
I am also announcing the coming opening of Cinnamon Projects.
The purpose of Cinnamon Projects is to speed up the development of CW by utilizing some the very gifted coders on the amiga scene.
Since I have come to the realization that writing an application like this single handedly, is near impossible, I have decided to use a larger part of the donations I have received and hopefully will continue to receive, to fund coders who are interested in contributing to the application.
A new section will open on desler.be in the near future where different projects are announced together with the amount of money a coder will receive upon completion of the project.
An example of a project could be a printer class that will handle all the Amiga specific calls required to add printing capability to CW. The prize given upon completion will range from 50-150 euro depending on the scale of the project and of course, the amount of donations I have received.
I haven’t been able to test this software on a classic AOS4 setup, so please let me know if a specific setup is not working. The stability of this version has not been throughout tested and the undo/redo feature is currently not available. Therefore save often and save different versions of your document when using CW!
I really hope that you will find this application useful. Please don’t hesitate to report bugs/crashes/ideas and perhaps give donations/beer on desler.be. Finally... Donate. Scientific case studies have shown that people who donated experienced 33.4% fewer crashes. ;-) (snx)
