Ninth Amiga-Meeting Nord in Bad Bramstedt
Thorsten Mampel, first chairman of the ACH association, writes: The Amiga-Club Hamburg and Amiga-Club Schleswig-Holstein are proud to announce the 9th "Amiga-Meeting Nord" in Bad Bramstedt, Germany. (Bad Bramstedt is about 50 km away from Hamburg) This meeting is for every "Amiga" User and starts on Friday 31th October (Users of Amiga-compatible systems like MOS, AROS... are welcome too !) The event is located at the Hotel Tanneneck in Bad Bramstedt. In the last years the Meeting became one of the biggest Amiga events in northern Germany. Up to 40 users can bring their computers and use it in an generously room of the hotel. They can connect to a LAN with internet access.

Some of the agenda items that are planned:
  • scene demo and movie presentations on a video projector
  • private market for used hard- and software
  • presentations of up-to-date Amiga developments
  • making a "party-cd" by the users
  • Local Area Network with internet access
  • webcam and much more...
The most important thing is always having fun! If the developers want to present their products to the Amiga community on the event, a special price is offered for the meeting. 65 EURO instead of 82 EUR or 32,50 instead of 41 EURO (see "costs" below...) Costs:
  • from Friday to Sunday (the entire meeting), including hotel room, two dinners and breakfast for 82 EURO

  • one day without any accommodation as a daily guest for 5 EURO

With its user interface, EasyNet simplifies network configuration; by AmigaKit, the program is enclosed with various network hardware and can be updated over the live update function.

MorphOS: VLC 0.8.6f beta 6
Rupert Hausberger has published an update of his MorphOS-port of the media player VLC.

Changes in version 0.8.6f beta 6:
  • Added MorphOS OpenGL (TinyGL) provider module
  • Added freetype-module, and so ttf-OSD text
  • Added modplug-module for all kind of tracker-mods (untested)
  • Improved all MorphOS modules. Combined functions, made things using less space and memory
  • Enabled aspect-ratio- and corp-cycling when pressing 'a' or 'c'
  • Prepared source for a MUI interface module

AmigaOS 4: Instant Messenger SabreMSN, Alpha 10
James 'jahc' Carroll has published another alpha version of his Instant Messenger for the MSN-netzwork. Additional to a bug fix which caused a crash alpha version 10 now also offers emoticons but currently without animation (screenshot 1,2).

Cloanto: Emulation package Amiga Forever 2008
Preceding an official press-release scheduled for next week, Cloanto today announced the availability of the next version of their emulation package:

After more than two years of work, Amiga Forever 2008 is being officially released today. This new version is the most significant upgrade ever in the Amiga Forever series. It sets new references in usability, while more than tripling the featured content and providing easy access to a universe of free downloads.

The new player for Windows is nothing short of revolutionary, while feeling as familiar and easy to use as a media player (Screenshots). Beyond its beautiful skin, it uses heuristic logic to autoconfigure downloaded games (including double clicks on disk images), and supports features such as saved states, disk write undo and dual monitor setups.

On the cross-platform front, the KX Light standalone boot environment features a new kernel and hard disk installation (with online updates). The Gallery section (Plus Edition CD) includes the full and original 1979 Tripos (AmigaOS precursor) presentation, and new "top secret" Amiga-Atari documents, while tons of new games and demoscene productions are sure to deliver long hours of enjoyment. For the technically-minded, Amiga Forever 2008 also includes new ROMs, new ADFs, new HDFs, and better support for WHDLoad, AmiKit and AmigaSYS (crash-course for upgraders).

Owners of a previous version of Amiga Forever (any edition, either downloadable or physical) can upgrade at a reduced price.

MorphOS: Word Me Up XXL
The AmigaOS-4-game "Word Me Up XXL" by Boing Attitude mixes arcade and puzzle elements and is now available for MorphOS as well (screenshot). There is a demo version with four of the 60 levels. Additionally to the link on the homepage you can download the game from the following site:

"Porting for Profit" has compiled four SDL-games for AmigaOS 4: Jump Action (Jump-and-Run-game), Jooleem (puzzle-game), High Moon (space-shooter for two players) and a Breakout-clone called Brickshooter.

AmigaOS 4: 3D-Shooter Descent 2
Hans-Jörg Frieden has ported the 3D-shooter D2X which is an OpenGL-version of Descent 2, to AmigaOS 4 (screenshot).

Additional to the libSDL the game files of the Windows- or Mac-version are required as well. Both the files of the demo-/shareware-version and of the commercial full version can be used.

The Amiga port only supports software-rendering. Furthermore the network support still does not work. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Amithlon: Workbench-environment AmigaSYS
AmigaSYS is a preinstalled Workbench-environment with many extensions - similar to AIAB (Amiga In A Box) or AmiKit. The version for Amithlon was updated and includes some bug fixes:
  • TTF Font support bug
  • SimpleMail Crash. (not built in program)
  • Install errors
  • ReAction renewed fixed, prefs
  • Some libs fixed
  • MMKeyboard platform fix WinUAE <-> Amithlon version
  • Icon bugs fixed

Hollywood: GUI-Bibliothek ScuiLib 0.1 (alpha)
Fabio Falcucci has published a first alpha version of his GUI-library for Hollywood 3.1.

AmigaOS 4: RAR3-support for Unarc/XAD
Chris Young has published a modul for the XAD-system which is included in AmigaOS 4. With this modul it is now possible to extract RAR-archives of version 3. Selfextracting RAR-archives used e.g. by Microsoft are not supported. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Rupert Hausberger is making available an update to his MorphOS port of the media player VLC.

Changes in version 0.8.6f beta 5:
  • Now keys from vlcrc are used and can be defined in there
  • Implemented audio-volume handling to ahi_dev module
  • Implemented wb-start and added VLC.info (no tooltypes)
  • Fixed libdvdnav stuff (now realy)
  • Fixed mouse-pointer offsets
  • Fixed new-line problem in the shell
  • Fixed config-load/save stuff
  • Fixed option --longhelp crash
  • Fixed all getenv(HOME) to PROGDIR:home
  • Fixed hit when pressed the RMB
  • Got rid of usergroup.library

MorphOS: PowerSDL 12.1
Ilkka Lehtoranta is releasing an update to his SDL port for MorphOS. In the new version, some errors were fixed, the fullscreen mode should now work without problems, among other things. A detailed list of changes can be gathered from the readme. (cg) (Translation: cad)
