UTF-8 text editor: EmojiGear 3.1 (update)
EmojiGear is a UTF-8 Unicode text editor for AmigaOS 3.2 that can display coloured emojis and anti-aliased fonts via a built-in FreeType 2 engine.

EmojiGear

Multiple documents can be opened and saved in tabs in UTF-8, ISO Latin-1 and ISO Latin-2. In addition, the editor offers standard functions such as search and replace, undo and redo, line breaks, ANSI escape representation and configurable font sizes, as well as a set of 8 groups, each containing 40 emojis, which are assigned to the F keys. Further features at a glance:
  • Settings for background and text colour, anti-aliasing, and font list.
  • Change the text size using Ctrl+/Ctrl
  • Line breaks can be turned on and off
In addition to the editor, the package installs three Amiga components that developers can use:
  • utf8rastport.library: FreeType 2 Unicode rendering with coloured emojis.
  • unitexteditor.gadget: the full editor as a BOOPSI gadget class.
  • unibutton.gadget: a push-button gadget with Unicode/emoji labels.
As the developer explains to us, EmojiGear does, in principle, run on AmigaOS 3.9. However, the limitations (and bugs) in the "layers.library" – the core library that manages the cropping of WB windows and rectangles for offscreen tile rendering – cause OS 3.9 to crash when the software is used. Furthermore, the "clicktab" gadget in OS 3.9 is far too outdated and must be bypassed. Nevertheless, OS 3.9 compatibility has almost been achieved.

Update: (05.06.26, 06:05, dr)

Version 3.1 fixes three causes of memory errors. In addition, the native 2-colour screen mode has been corrected and a MUI version is now also available.
