amipkg 0.7.1: Custom package repositories for AmigaOS 3.x
Thomas Lübkers’ program amipkg, which is also used by his Amiga Imager, is a package manager for AmigaOS 3.x. It installs, updates and removes software from a curated catalog that now includes over 200 freely distributable programs: media players, commodities, Internet applications, development tools and games.

With version 0.7.1, amipkg can now use multiple repositories - so anyone can run their own. The author writes (translation):

"A repository consists of just two static files on any web server. No database, no PHP and no HTTPS are required:
  • amipkg repo add mine http://my.server/amiga
  • amipkg update
Anyone who signs their repository provides their users with the same level of security as the official catalog: amipkg verifies the Ed25519 signature on the Amiga before a catalog is even used, and each archive is then verified against a SHA-256 checksum derived from that exact signed index. A tampered index or archive will be rejected. The included tool amipkg-repo-sign generates a key pair and signature without any additional dependencies - Python 3 is all that's needed.

The order of the repositories determines which one provides a package; you can specifically target one using 'repo:package'. Both graphical interfaces - GadTools and MUI - now feature a new repository management section under 'Settings'.

amipkg is open source (Apache 2.0): the client, catalog, signing tool and schema are fully available for review. Anyone who wants to make their package available to all users can still submit it to the curated catalog via a pull request or directly from the Amiga (amipkg submit)."

The package manager is available on Aminet and at the title link on GitHub. Instructions for running your own repository can be found in the HOSTING.md file in the source code repository. The program runs on AmigaOS 3.0 or later, a 68000 processor is sufficient. (snx)
