Network from the socket
At this Cebit the company devolo from Aachen will introduce its new product "devolo MicroLink LAN" (title link) to the market. With this device it should be possible to realize a DSL network over the mains supply of the house - without boring holes or pulling cables. "Simply put it in the socket and connect it with an Ethernet card on the PC."

According to the documentation a bit rate of up to 14Mbit in a circuit of 200 m is possible. The data transfer is described as safe. The electric meter is supposed to work as a firewall and a DES encoding with a 56 bit key will be used.

The device has a driver. All operating systems like Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and all TCP/IP operating systems will work with it. Maybe the Amiga, too...? (ps) (Translation: dr)

Abyss: Extralife Demo from 1998 released as Mpeg!
The classic demo Extralife, by the mostly German group Abyss, has now been released as an mpeg for all interested fans who don't have an Amiga.

On the homepage of the group many other different demos can be accessed, as can a multitude of graphics such as Cyclone, Acryl, Jcs, etc. Abyss played a decisive role in the international demoscene a few years ago, with their fresh designs and good ideas. Nowadays a few of them are developing for Gameboy Advanced and Gameboy Color.

TV-Card Software: AmithlonTV Beta 245
Guido Mersmann has released beta-version 245 of the TV-Card driver software AmithlonTV.

New in this version:
  • WARNING!
Due the latest changes I cleared the libs/tvcard_carddata/ drawer. If you perform a fresh installation just drag and drop the required tv card file(s) from the storage_carddata into the tvcard_carddata drawer. This change was required, because several cards are using the same hardware ids, but they also need a different setup.

  • FEATURE:
Added the missing global setup which is required for non card specific drivers like audio mixers.

  • FEATURE:
Optional Volume_AmiMixer.lib allows to modify the volume within applications (requires amimixer.library).

  • BUGFIX:
TVFakeInterrupt() wasn't working correct in special cases.

  • FEATURE:
The missing "Notify" interrupt feature implemented. "Volume_AmiMixer.lib" enhanced to support this feature.

  • BUGFIX:
Removed the ghost card which appeared with the bt8x8 audio section and the Philips enhancement. Currently the section will be suppressed by the library. Later this will be handled by the configuration, but currently this is the best solution.

IOSPIRIT: IBrowse 2.3 released
We are pleased to unveil that a distribution agreement with Stefan Burström and the IBrowse Team has been signed and we are now the worldwide distributor for IBrowse (support for IBrowse is still done by the IBrowse development team, though).

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce the immediate release of the eagerly awaited update to IBrowse 2.2.

IBrowse 2.3 brings web browsing on AmigaOS to a new level - below is a brief summary of the changes since version 2.2:

  • Heavily enhanced JavaScript support, based on JavaScript 1.5 and revision 3 of the ECMAScript specification, allowing access to sites which was not possible before
  • Secure connection support is now available via AmiSSL v2, which can be configured extensively in the IBrowse preferences. Importing and exporting of certificates is now also supported.
  • Greatly improved general stability and memory leaks plugged
  • Improved GUI, including enhanced browser tab functionality (such as drag'n'drop, keyboard support)
  • Issues with the ARexx interface have been fixed and new commands added
  • Hundreds of other minor and major bug fixes + improvements, and more workarounds added to improve compatibility with broken sites
All these improvements greatly improve the browsing experience, and allow IBrowse to offer compatibility with many more websites than before.

For further information, news and product support, please visit http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/ and our IBrowse-subpages. (ps)
