Ars Technica: A history of the Amiga, part 2
Under the title link Jeremy Reimer continues talking about the Amiga history with the crisis of the video games as well as the conception of the screens and the HAM-modus. The article is illustrated with the Amiga-joyboard.

In his article serie the author wants to explain "what the Amiga was, what it meant to his developers and users and why it - despite of the early decline and its [from the current point of view] rather slight brand awareness - had so much influence on the computer industry". USB Stack: Poseidon 3.8
The USB stack Poseidon is now available for AmigaOS 3.x in version 3.8. In addition to bugfixes in ethernet classes as well as the mass storage support, the latter was improved further, too. Moreover, a largely enhanced Egalaxtouch class is provided in the update, which allows using touchscreens, including right mouse button emulation.

Please note that the author cannot issue registrations or give support due to "company holiday" from August 15 till 26.

As Chris Hodges informs, this probably concerns the last update to version 3.x for "classic" Amigas (and Amithlon). Users who want to purchase a license are asked to do this within the next months.

The update can be downloaded via the title link or the online update function in Trident. (snx) (Translation: cad)

MorphOS: lzmaLoader
After limited disk space had led to packers like PowerPacker, Imploder or StoneCracker in the past, which compressed executable files and unpacked and launched them automatically again, such a software was now made available for the first time for MorphOS programs, too, by Harry 'Piru' Sintonen, with the lzmaLoader.

Though disk space today is no longer as limited as in the floppy disk era, the author, by all means, still sees a possible use, for compressing 64k intros, for instance. As the name already suggests, his program uses the LZMA algorithm, known through 7-Zip.

Amiga-Meeting Nord: Call to developers
Sven Scheele writes: Preparations for the Amiga-Meeting Nord (Amiga Meeting North), which takes place in Bad Bramstedt from Oktober 12 - 14, are going strong. 24 registrations are already available, so a good half of the existing spots are already reserved.

Developers and dealers will be represented again this time, too, and will present their current products and projects. Among these are Guido Mersmann, Stefan Kleinheinrich and Sven Dröge as well as Alinea Computer and Axel Knabe Büro & Informationsservice so far.

Many more were contacted. But since we can't reach everyone, we ask all interested developers to get in touch with us via the meeting homepage. (snx) (Translation: cad)
