Seeding the Success Campaign: August winner asks for payback
The project manager of the OS4-team, Hans-Jörg Frieden, won the prize of the "Seeding the Success Campaign" endowed by DiscreetFX for August.

Instead of paying the money of 100 US-Dollar Bill Panagouleas started an appeal for donation which should provide a Playstation 3 to the developer.

With this action Hans-Jörg Frieden should be pushed along to port AmigaOS-4 to this game console. But from the beginning Hans-Jörg told that there is not any real opportunity of realizing it. So he did not feel comfortable.

Under the title link Hans-Jörg Frieden clarified that he asked DiscreetFX to delete the corresponding bounty site and to pay back the donations because he cannot fullfill the hopes. Up to now he did not get any answer from Bill Panagouleas. (snx) (Translation: dr)

ARexx script: SpamFryer 6:18
SpamFryer is an ARexx script written by Simon N. Goodwin which recognizes Spam-eMails and then deletes them directly from the POP3-server or put them in a Spam directory of the eMail program YAM.

The new version 6:18 includes 200 rules for the recognation of Spam which you can extend by editing the text file.

Changes:
  • Updated rules, around 200 (see SpamFryer.loseList) - These include a new group for SpamFryer 6, all the old standards from SpamFryer 5 and 4 (some of which you may find are no longer very useful as certain internet fads are currently on the wane) and an extra set we've found to be quite effective in 2008 but which are commented out (safety first!) as a few users might have legitimate interactions involving those patterns which their keepList may not catch. To improve SpamFryer performance, remove the // prefix unless you're worried that you may actually want mails containing these spam-characteristic patterns
  • Option to start SpamFryer in interactive mode - Preview the content of your mailbox, and select the mails you want to keep or delete
  • Option to sort the rules - SpamFryer will re-build the keeplist and loselist so that the most often triggered rules are the first ones used to check the mails. This also gives some stats about spam
  • Standard localisation support and new translation tool - SpamFryer now runs in your (system prefered) language. Currently available language: French. More to come
  • Support for APOP (POP3 protocol) password encryption - If your mail server support it, APOP will be used, for a safer session
  • Support for Thor mailer (customised version of SpamFryer)
  • Folded mail headers are now fully supported to RFC 822 - SpamFryer checks each entire header line even when it is wrapped onto multiple lines
  • Option to fry mails above a specified size, and sanity check on very long lines - Avoid a possible buffer-overflow by setting a limit for text line length (RFC 822 recommends a maximum of 80 characters per line, but not all mailers respect that)
  • TABs handled as SPACEs - When applying the rules, any tabulation character in a mail is seen as a space character when checking for a match
  • No dependency upon external programs or libraries - SpamFryer will use some of them, but will not fail if they are not available
  • Default password requester - If rexxreqtool.library is not installed, SpamFryer will use its own requester
  • Account selection shortcuts (in interactive mode) - If you have fewer than 10 accounts to check, you can quickly select the one to browse by pressing a numeric key
  • Memory checking - If you have a LOT of mails waiting in your mailbox, but have a system with a small amount of RAM, SpamFryer will warn you about any ongoing memory shortage and continue checking as much mail as it can
  • Option to over-write or append to previous logs
  • Early exit (to the next account) if supplied password is null
  • Examples showing how to build a one-button launcher with DOpus Magellan, and AmigaDOS scripts to quickly launch SpamFryer from Workbench
  • More lose rules added, for even more spam frying
  • Plus many other less-visible improvements which help to make SpamFryer even more comfortable to use

SAM440ep bundle: THE RED ONE and Word Me Up XXL
Press release: The Amiga games editor Boing Attitude :o) and the software & hardware distributor RELEC have entered into an agreement to offer you a bargain opportunity. Both are indeed pleased to announce that every new purchaser of the THE RED ONE SAM440ep with AmigaOS 4.1 OEM will get a Word Me Up XXL new game licence!

Word Me Up XXL combines an arcade game with strategic thinking and memory skills. Suitable for all the family, it's a non violent game. It's easy for all ages to play thanks to a steady progression through up to 60 levels. What's more, there are cartoon graphics, funny sound effects and a great selection of background music.

Jérôme Senay, founder of Boing Attitude :o), sums up : "I'm very happy to work with RELEC, who showed since many years their determination to support Amiga. Moreover, they also have capacity for producing novative and novel hardware like "THE RED ONE" unit, the perfect computer to run our game".

Emmanuel Rey, RELEC's representative, concludes : "Innovation begins with such agreements. Since RELEC exists, our philosophy in matter of clientele is based on a "win-win" solution. In this field, we really have to think as a customer to ask ourselves the good questions. For example, with our brand new "THE RED ONE", specifications don't really matter as they are the same with every reseller. What leads our choices is a polished design and a few little plus, like for example its travel case. But with Word Me Up XXL, Boing Attitude :o) offers a significant advantage and we, at RELEC, are really proud of it!" (cg) (Translation: cg)
