New interpreter for Maniac Mansion and Co.: Parrot Another "player" for the game data of classic point'n-click adventures is developed called "Parrot". At least the SCUMM based games developed by Lucasfilm are supposed to run. In contrast to existing solutions like ScummVM, Parrot is being developed especially for the Amiga and therefore is optimized for this system and its chipset. For example before the first launch, all data are converted into typical Amiga formats to make them playable also on less powerful copmputers. At least "an ECS Amiga, running Workbench 2" is required. (cg) (Translation: dr) [News message: 01. Jun. 2020, 21:55] [Comments: 0] [Send via e-mail] [Print version] [ASCII version] |

Remote access to Amigas: squirt "squirt" is a server having only 5 kb which is launched on Amigas and then allows the remote access to the computer via the network. Using special command line programs you then can control the Amiga with the help of any other computer. In a text-based console also file transfers, switching directories and executing (non-active) Amiga commands are possible. Additionally squirt can be used as backup solution: A special command creates incremental backups of directories. Currently squirt only is available as source code and has to be compiled by yourself. If the commands for the remote access only work under Unix-like systems or also under Windows, we cannot say. The system currently allows only anonymous access - therefore the author strongly recommends: do not use the tool on Amiga systems which are connected to the Internet.
