HyperCOM Magic Update with IOBlix Emulation
Beta-test HyperCOM 2.96B1 Magic-Update
With the new HypeCOM update we are making a lot of new functions official at once, hence there is a big chance for problems to occur which we did not realise up to now.

As substitute for the old SilverSurfer software we are now officially offering a support via the hyperCOM1.device from version v2.96B1, which has been enhanced or made faster in all parts compared to the old silversurfer.device.

On of the most important new functions now is an implemented IOBlix software emulation, which allows some programs and drivers to be used with the extremely compatible HyperCOM boards, at last.

Here are some examples on what already works:
  • ScanQuix5 parallel Scanner-Support
  • Camouflage 8x parallel Midi-Interface
  • RBM AmStrong USV
  • IOBlix ioblixzip.device for IO-Mega parallel ZIP-Drives

Within the next days the technical part of the emulation will be enhanced further, so that surely even more applications and drivers can be used with the HyperCOM boards.

ATTENTION!
In order to be able to use the IOBlix software emulation the vmcresource.library must be loaded by one of our drivers (hyperCOMx.device oder hyperPAR.device)!

AROS-ML

AROS - Status
AROS (Amiga Research OS), the system independent open source new implementation of the AmigaOS is now bootable as the native version, and one can already do mouse moving on the screen. Since there still is no filesystem no programs can be executed. Currently it is being tried to get the source code of SFS; the author was positive about this idea, but first wants to fix some bugs.

More details, e.g. the trial to port AROS to UAE using JIT, you can find at the titlelink.

Back to the Roots Amiga-News
With the today update at "Back to the Roots" we are proving that this site is something for everybody worldwide, no matter which land you are from or which language you are speaking - there is something for everybody who is interested in Amiga, Amiga emulations or the demo scene!

We are able to present both of the Spanish adventure games, "La Aventura Original" and "La Diosa de Cozumel" from Aventuras AD. From Denmark comes the funny Troll "Hugo" who might especially please kids, while the French company Lankhor provides us with both, the German and English version of the classic "Mortville Manor", and with "Black Sect" they even gave an absolut rarity in addition. And as a special surprise there now is even the CD32 version of the classic adventure "Beneath a Stell Sky" for free and legal download. And as always, we only told about some of the new games.

Of course, as absolute demo freaks we never would forget the demo scene with our updates. Therefor there are among others two brand-new demos from Scoopex and Spaceballs for the - you listen and are astonished - Amiga500 for download! Furthermore many classic demos and newer demos for ECS+AGA Amigas/emulators were added.

For the friends of music among us there is a big Jesper Kyd Special - the well known musician of the group "The Silents". From Hannes Seifert (Whale's Voyage) or Matthias Stenzhorn (Brainman) comes music from computer games. We even were able to find a remix of the popular music from Monkey Island 2. And the graphisc fetishists should have a look at the marvelous pictures by scene artists like Flood, Nomad or Acryl.

That's all for today. Have a lot of fun with the new "food".

Zophar.Net Poll Finished
The survey on the emulator site Zophar.net was finished. The wish to get information about emulators for Amiga with 13% of votes came to rank 3. Here the "official" final results:
  • Which new area would you like to see at ZD?
  • 13% (661 votes) Emulators for Amiga
  • 10% (525 votes) Emulators for Palm Pilot
  • 11% (551 votes) Computer Hardware Reviews
  • 12% (600 votes) Other Music Files (SID, etc.)
  • 26% (1297 votes) I would add all of the above!
  • 25% (1231 votes) I don't need anything of this, ZD shall reside as it is.
  • Votes over all: 4865

The chances are good to get all of the areas added, in future.

European Parlament are giving a favourable opinion on Software-Patents
«The board of directors of the european parlament (EPA) have given a favourable opinion on an unrestricted possibility to patent software. According to the Handelsblatt the authority recommends to withdraw the stipulation that computer applications "as such" are not possible to patent from the European Patent Agreement. .»

«Programmers of free software, as well as smaller software companies are against software patents, cause potential danger of patent suits by big companies would make their work practically impossible. These a days big American companies are already saving a lot of patents on partly trivial developments - they are doing so also to resist against other companies upbraiding patent violation. But free developers and small companies are not in funds to use such a strategy. Thus they have started an Allianz against Software-Patents

I realy recommend everybody, who is interested in that also small software companies can continue to work without allways being afraid of patent suits, to participate in the Petition against Software-Patents by voting. Up to now there have been 38,478 votes! (ps)
