Hollywood now as QuickStart-edition available
Official press release: Due to popular request, Airsoft Softwair is now offering Hollywood 4.0 and Hollywood Designer 2.1 in special QuickStart editions. These QuickStart editions are optimized for a quick and hassle-free installation procedure, which means that they do not have to be burned on CD prior to installation. Instead, you simply download an archive and unpack it to the desired location on your hard drive. This is as easy as it gets! No installation necessary, just unpack and go. Your Hollywood installation will be ready within a minute!

The QuickStart editions are especially interesting for users of an Efika board without a CD-ROM, and generally for all AROS users because AROS currently doesn't support the Commodore Installer tool. Except for the installation procedure, the QuickStart editions are absolutely identical to the regular versions.

To order your QuickStart edition now, just tick the corresponding checkmark in the order form on this page. Order now! (cg) (Translation: dr)

Lawsuit: Inception Group Real Estate sues Amiga Inc. (Update)
Apparently Inception Group, the former landlord of Amiga Washington (which renamed itself to Amino a while ago) has sued Amiga Inc (Delaware, formerly known as KMOS) four weeks ago. Amiga/Amino was sued by the Inception Group back in 2001 already (1, 2), two years later a second lawsuit was started (default judgement) and the inventory of the company's former offices was auctioned off.

Update: (06.07.2009, 15:30, cg)

The bill of indictment (PDF) is available now. Inception Group claims it has won a lawsuit against Amiga/Amino in November 2003, which resulted in Amiga/Amino owing Inception about 150,000 USD. Five years later, in November 2008, Amino, Amiga Delaware (fka KMOS) and Inception came to an agreement in which Amiga Delaware guaranteed to pay Amino's debts, which had grown to 235,000 USD by that time, until February 17th, 2009.

Inception states that it has not revieved any money to this day, which is why the company is now suing Amiga Delaware for breach of contract. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Cloanto: Emulator package Amiga Forever 2009
Press release July 2, 2009 - Cloanto released today Amiga Forever 2009, the latest version of the award-winning Amiga preservation, emulation and support suite for Windows and other platforms (Screenshot).

Amiga Forever 2009 is the most refined update ever released in the Amiga Forever series. It again sets new references in usability while more than doubling the featured content and providing easier access to a universe of free downloads.

Like its sister product C64 Forever, Amiga Forever 2009 introduces a synergistic combination of the RP2 retrogaming file format (Screenshot, amiga-news.de reported), RetroPlatform Library to recognize content, and RP2 Manager (Screenshot) to export and import to and from other file formats.

The 2009 version includes hundreds of enhancements and was tested to comply with "Compatible with Windows 7" requirements. New features include seamless, one-click integration of the AmiKit and AmigaSYS add-ons and new system ROMs (e.g. the 0.7 Kickstart required to run the software used by Andy Warhol's famous 1985 Launch of Amiga demo). The Plus Edition includes more than 100 games and a selection from the most beautiful demoscene productions ever created. Tens of thousands of games, as well as other software ranging from the oldest to the latest Amiga releases are only a mouse click apart, and can run on powerful PCs and inexpensive netbooks alike.

When both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever are installed, the players share data and software modules with each other, uniformly playing back RP2 games of both 8-bit and 32-bit platforms. The same familiar user interface and settings are also applied to saved states, disk write undo, dual-monitor setups and other advanced functionality. "The way it brings back memories is amazing, and it feels as if Commodore and Amiga were united again," said Michael C. Battilana of Cloanto.

Dave Haynie, a long-time user of Amiga Forever and former Commodore International chief engineer on high end and advanced projects, added: "The past IS the future... Amiga Forever is the single best way to run AmigaOS today. Your PC is the fastest Amiga that will ever exist, and Cloanto does a wonderful job of packing the emulation technology, every AmigaOS ROM and Workbench version (most of which I've long since lost to data rot on my floppy collection), games, utilities, Web tools, graphics programs, most anything you would need, all in one place."

Amiga Forever 2009 is available now in three editions:
  • Value Edition (downloadable installer for Windows systems)
  • Plus Edition (downloadable CD ISO image with additional Windows and platform-neutral content)
  • Premium Edition (physical Plus Edition CD and two DVDs (Photo), plus instant download of the installer for Windows)
The Plus Edition includes the KX Light boot environment with hard disk installation and online updates. The Premium Edition additionally contains more than five hours of videos. (snx)

Youtube-Downloader: getVideo 0.18

With Jürgen Lucas' ARexx-script getVideo video clips of different services - e.g. Youtube - can be saved on harddrive or can be played. Changes in version 0.18:
  • removed a bug in youtube playlist support
  • fixed a stupid bug in youtube support that leads to 404 error
  • add support for youtube HD video if available
  • improved google video support
  • little bit improved polylog support
  • add "Setup for OWB MorphOS" to this readme

IRC-Client: WookieChat 2.12 Beta 6

James 'jahc' Carroll has published another update of his MUI-base IRC-client WookieChat (AmigaOS 3/4, MorphOS, AROS). Changes in this version:
  • Nickserv and auto-join strings are now initialised when a new server tab is created. So when you open a second server tab, and then connect to a second server using the /server command, you dont get "cant join ?????" junk (etc) once you've connected.
  • Added a sanity check to the Connect function, to handle weird errors caused by adding servers/groups to your list. But if it's somehow triggered again, it shouldnt crash.
  • When you join a channel in the root tab, with server tabs disabled, it will refresh the display. So joining a channel will now make the nicklist appear!
  • MorphOS version works again! I wasnt compiling AND linking with -noixemul, and it was causing weirdness. Graphical smileys, ASL requesters, and images in the MUI Settings window will all work now. (Thanks itix!)
  • Server messages are sent to the current tab now.. or if you're not viewing that particular server, its sent to the root tab
  • Made sure I dont set NList nicklist objects to quiet before adding entries if the NList object is not visible. I modified it wrongly a few betas ago to try and increase speed, and it seemed to cause a lockup every day or two.

Instant Messenger: SabreMSN 0.51

James 'jahc' Carroll also has published a new version of the MUI-based MSN-Messenger SabreMSN which is available for AmigaOS 3/4 and AROS. The changes in version 0.51 are listed in the Changelog. (cg) (Translation: dr)

MorphOS: Reggae class xpk.demuxer 51.1
Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski writes: This time I have a brand new class, named xpk.demuxer. This class adds transparent support of XPK packed data streams to Reggae. It means all currently existing and future classes will be able to fetch content from any XPK compressed stream (not only a file, but also data in memory and from any other *.stream class).

The class may be also used as a nice wrapper on xpkmaster.library. For the first time the class is accompanied not only with autodoc but also a tutorial for programmers, containing example programs. The class may be downloaded from MorphOS Files.
