MorphOS: DTP program Calimero 3.9 also creates charts
Version 3.9 of Carsten Siegner's DTP program Calimero now also can create bar and pie charts:
The new chart function has the following features:
- each spreadsheet can have unlimited charts
- charts address spreadsheets in the whole document
- charts can have unlimited data levels
- charts require a spreadsheet
- charts exist as objects, so it is possible to save documents as ODT/EPUB/PDF
- charts can be printed

Encryption: AmiSSL 4
A team led by Jens Maus (e.g. YAM) has released version 4 of the OpenSSL-port AmiSSL, which can establish encrypted connections on the Internet - e.g. loading a website using HTTPS.
AmiSSL 4 is based on the latest OpenSSL 1.1.0d providing new encryption algorithms - existing Amiga software has to be adapted to be able making use of them.
AmiSSL is free software, the source code is available on Github. So far versions for Amiga 3 and 4 has been released. For porting it to MorphOS and AROS, help is needed.
Hint of the editorial staff: If you are using IBrowse, you should enable TLS for improving the compatibility to encrypted websites also without using AmiSSL-4.

Games competition: Participants of the "AmiGameJam 2016"
Six games have been registered for the programming competition "AmiGameJam 2016" which was started in December. They now can be downloaded from the website of the organizers. Laser upgrade for Amiga mice (Update)
Having been unsatisfied with the accuracy of his old Amiga 500 mouse, Jesús de la Torre developed a replacement board which turns the Amiga mice of Commodore and Amiga Technologies into optical mice with a resolution of (according to the retailer) 8500 dpi. An ADNS 9800 laser sensor is used that - together with a matching covering - replaces the original mouse.
From March 22nd the laser upgrade is supposed to be commercially available.

As the developer explains on request of amiga-news.de, the information about the Mouse's resolution is correct. There is not a direct conversion between the laser sensor and the Amiga mouse port, though. Instead, there is a PIC processor doing some calculations with the high resolution movements. PDF viewer: Port of VPDF for AmigaOS 4
In 2012 a bounty was started for porting the PDF viewer VPDF from MorphOS to AmigaOS 4 due to the outdated and rather slow engine of AmiPDF. Roman 'kas1e' Kargin now has released a working version of the programm on OS4Depot.

Previews: Adventures "Furtum Sacrum" and "RetroWars", Beat'em Up "Brus Lii"
The point'n click adventures Furtum Sacrum (video) and Retro Wars (video) are developed by the Spanish team of Amiga Wave using the editor GRAC and some AMOS code. Both games require any Amiga with one Megabyte Chip-RAM.
Retro Wars immerses in the world of "Star Wars" and has already been finished. You can download a Spanish version of the game from the website and the major part of the English translation has been already done. For collectors there is a boxed edition, which can be ordered via eMail from the authors:
According to the website, Furtum Sacrum ("Sacred Theft") "places us in the late Middle Ages. Specifically, in the Northwest of Spain, where there are a number of pilgrimage routes and roads with a lots of monasteries flourishing everywhere. These monasteries offer services to pilgrims in exchange for alms, they also have their own sources of funding, their crops and local products." An early (Spanish) demo version can be downloaded.
The English translation of RetroWars as well as the development of Furtum Sacrum temporarily were suspended because Amiga Wave were going to finish "Brus Lii" (Youtube) to submit it to the Amiga Game Jam 2016 in time.

Hyperion: Screenshot shows installation process of AmigaOS on Tabor
A screenshot published in the official blog of Hyperion shows the "Installation Utility for the A1222" and thus demonstrates a regular installation of AmigaOS 4.1 FE on the Tabor motherboard. The headline "First steps towards beta test :D" is supposed to emphasize the current progress compared with level of development from October when a single developer was buzy adapting the operating system to the new motherboard.

Workbench distribution: AmiKit 9 Reloaded for Mac with Rabbit Hole
On October 2015 "Rabbit Hole" was introduced which for the Workbench distribution AmiKit makes it possible to start programms of the Linux or Windows operating system or to get access to Amiga files.
Releasing "AmiKit 9 Reloaded for Mac" this now is also possible with Mac OS X. Version 10.8 of the operating system is required. Additionally WinUAE under Wine 2.0 is used instead of E-UAE which provides more speed and stability to AmiKit.

MorphOS: "Hurra, ich wachse!" 2.0
The MorphOS programm "Hurra, ich wachse!" written by Ulrich Beckers "is an app to monitor and manage all body sizes/measures of children during their growth phase (age of 0-18 years) and includes data for height, weight, head girth, skinfolds, hip and waist circumference as well as for blood pressure. Additionally the body mass index (BMI), waist/hip relation, waist/height relation and body fat get automatically calculated."
Version 2.0 of the programm now is available in German and English. Additionally a responsive graphic interface and a new menu were added.

Text editor featuring Kickstart-1.2 compatibility: Redit 1.14
Kai Scherrer's text editor Redit works without any limitations on an Amiga equipped with Kickstart 1.2, but also is fully compatible with higher versions of the system. The editor can be also launched from an emergancy disk or used after booting without startup-sequence.
Changes of version 1.14:
- Bugfix: new documents could thrash file lock - fixed
- Improved: library loading is now done by own routines, decreasing binary size
- Stackwarning message removed
- Increased stacksize to 16k

AmigaOS 4 / AROS / MorphOS: SnapIT 1.4
SnapIT written by Stefan Blixth (OnyxSoft) is a "powerful screen grabber" for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS/x86 (screenshot).
The version of MorphOS can save the screenshots as different formats by using Reggae. Generally version 1.4 now can be used without a user-interface.
Changes:
- Reggae-support for saving data which includes a lot more formats to save to (MorphOS only)
- Missed to apply translation to the ASL-window (save file as...)
- Fixed that the free grab works as intended if the program was started iconified
- Added Greek translation by Anthony Iliakis
- Using latest MUI4 on OS4 to set the "aiming" pointer when using freegrab mode
- Now possible to grab a screen and save it without using the GUI (cli argument)
- Added CX_POPKEY / CX_POPUP handling
- Modified SnapIT so it can only be started in one instance, run it twice, uniconifies the first instance
- Included a updated Spanish guide file by Victor Gutiérrez
- Removed the requester when starting the program without a keyfile

FPGA: Apollo-Core-Update "Gold2"
The Apollo core is a FPGA-reimplementation of Motorolas m68k-series, which also provides a separate graphic output called SAGA. Currently the core is used in the accelerator boards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+). Changes in the latest core "Gold2":
- AMMX greatly improved
- Added CPU counters
- Added TURTLE mode
- Modified PCR register: 68080 now acts as a 060
- Modified MOVEC Rc,Rn (reads in User mode and Writes in Supervisor mode)
- Improved some loops patterns
- Improved self-modifying code support
- Improved memory controller to be full 32-bit
- Improved HDMI core
The SAGA driver was also updated and now is available in version 0.11.

MorphOS: Calimero 3.82
Carsten Siegner's Calimero "is a powerfull DTP program" which can handle spreedsheets (screenshot) now of the formats EPUB (photo 1) and ODT (photo 2).
The comic picture shown in the document is a WMF image format file which can be converted by Calimero into other formats. The spreedsheets in the ODT-documents for example in OpenOffice can be moved without limitations, thus do not depend on lines.

A500 accelerator board: HC508 in progress
Another accelerator board for the Amiga 500 is in development called HC508 which is based on a 68HC000 processor clocked with 50 Mhz and according to the developer is fully compatible to the 68000. The hardware has been tested for a loner time, the layout is final.
The HC508 has the following features:
- 68HC000 CPU with 50 MHz, 100% MC68000 compatible
- IDE-port (40 pin) for HD and CD-ROM
- integrated port for CF-cards
- 8 MB FastRAM (1 wait state)
- 512k FlashROM for Kickstart (1 wait state)
- Tool for disabling/enabling of all moduls (CPU, RAM, ROM, IDE)
It is still not clear how the board will be sold.

CFD ("CompactFlashDevice") supports using CompactFlash memory cards on the PCMCIA-Port of an A600 or A1200. Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski has released an update of the driver which improves compatibility with SD-cards (inserted via SD-CF-adapter). The updated driver also could provide support of a higher number of CF memory cards.

New PCMCIA angle connector: KA37 (Update)
Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski offers another angle connector for the PCMCIA port of the A1200 or A600 called "KA37" which is mostly required if the Amiga was put into a tower. The "KA37" is available for about 21 Euro and thus cheaper than similar products of Amigakit or
Elbox. However, Krashan only accepts Bitcoin (0.0249 Bitcoin). You can order the connector via email from the developer.

Subtitle editor: Slarti (all Amiga platforms)
"Slarti" is written in Hollywood and can "help making or modifying video subtitles" in the SubRip format. Using the avcodec-plugin, Slarti loads the video into its user-interface (which was created with RapaGUI) and offers rich editing modes.
Obviously other ports of the program are only available as free downloads if a certain amount of donations has been achieved. This is explained on the website under "Donations":
"If you send any amount of donation you will get an email with the download link of your chosen platform and the release target counter will be added by one point.
If the counter hit one of the goals then a release of the program will happen as a free download as described below."

Ben Hermans resigns his position as director of Hyperion
During the afternoon a hint was published on amiga.org that in the Belgisch Staatsblad an application of Hyperion (PDF) was published for removing the rank of the director ("Bestuurder") for Ben Hermans because he did resign this position on December 16th. This has been certified since January 12th because the KBO ("Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen") lists only founding member Timothy de Groote as well as the German Costel Mincea, joined in May 2015 as directors of Hyperion.
A few hours later Hyperion's website also announced the change:
"Hyperion Entertainment CVBA wishes to announce that Mr. Ben Hermans has resigned as a director of the company to allow him to concentrate on his practice as legal counsel. He remains committed to Hyperion Entertainment and will continue representing its legal interests in the best possible way. Ben of course also remains a shareholder in the Hyperion Entertainment business."

MorphOS: Harry "Piru" Sintonen hacks QNap network
Harry Sintonen, who is programmer in the MorphOS team, works as Senior Security Consultant at the Finnish security specialist F-Secure. In Helsinki he recently did "teach the audience a lesson in how attackers take advantage of insecure devices. Harry created the demonstration after he discovered several vulnerabilities in a QNAP network attached storage (NAS) device."

AEROS for indieGO! available
Purchasers of Pascal Papara's "indieGO!", which is an ARM-based system combining several games consoles by using different emulators, now also can use his Linux-hosted AROS-distribution AEROS. Using the online update function, AEROS can be added at the start of indieGO!. A video shows AEROS starting on the system and later the game AmigaRacer.
According to Pascal Papara "it is the first time AROS hosted on ARM runs with a 32bit color depth and so hand in hand with the 3D accelerated drivers or the console." AROS itself includes al system files which recently were back ported by Krzysztof Śmiechowicz for the ABIv0 and are also used in the distribution Icaros Desktop.
Additional to AEROS, version 1.7.0 of the Linux-based operating system "indieGO! OS" also offers FS-UAE as well as the latest version of the Amiga emulator uae4arm, compiled on and for the Odroid-XU4, supporting JIT, full screen mode and sound (actually uae4arm is optimized for Raspberry Pi2/3).
Pascal Papara also wrote: "Besides this preparations are made to allow the execution of IcAROS desktop utilizing the commercial i386 to ARM wrapper ExaGear. Performance wise it feels similar to my macbook pro late 2009 and running it in Virtualbox. This is possible because it used the wrapper only for the CPU translation and else it relies on native ARM API's.
There are much more updates like a new launcher menu done by Fabio and fixes to other system emulation but since they are not Amiga Related I would like to invite you to have an eye on the AMC-Support-Forum."

Dave Haynie: Entire "Deathbed Vigil" video at Youtube
In spring 1994 with his own camera hardware developer Dave Haynie recorded the almost deserted Commodore production facility in West Chester, a mass dismissal as well as a party of former employees ("wake") on the day after the announcement of the companys bankrupt.
The video which resulted from that was sold as "The Deathbed Vigil and other tales of digital angst": First of all by Haynie himself, finally as part of the premium edition of the emulator distribution Amiga Forever. Now Haynie has made available the video at Youtube for free.

MorphOS: Bounty project for new system monitor
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek, member of the MorphOS-Team, has suggested a bounty project in the forum of the MorphZone for a replacement of "Scout".
Unlike the former system monitor, "Scout NG" should not depend on external MUI-classes but will provide some MorphOS information. Besides, certain system lists should be shown in context (processes/tasks/windows as a tree).
On the website of the WArMUp ("World Association of MorphOS Users") you can donate for that project, which requires 200 Euro.

AnimWebConverter is a little Hollywood programm for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS, which can convert IFF-animations of the Anim or Yafa format into animated GIF and PNG files. Audio player: AmigaAMP 3.20 (AmigaOS 3/4)
In the lates version of the audio player AmigaAMP the support for AAC-streaming was added (AmigaOS 4). Besides, in both versions some bugs were fixed:
- OS4/PPC Version: Added AAC streaming support
- OS3/68k Version: Fixed AHI reopen leak which led to lockups after playing some files in a row
- OS3/68k Version: Improved mpega support
- Fixed crash when trying to change buffer sizes on the fly. This feature is no longer available, AmigaAMP has to be restarted.

Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. The following installers have been added until December 31st, 2016:

History of development: CDTV-ROM from August 1990 discovered

MorphOS: Trashcan released
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek, member of the MorphOS team, has released the first version of his TrashFileSystem, which provides a trashcan under Ambient.
Attention: Beta testers of MorphOS 3.10 should not install it, for "you downgrade vital components of the system to 3.9, which causes other parts to fail. Wait for the next beta iso."
Features:
- Can trash files and directories on any writable volume
- Collects all trashed files/dirs into a virtual Trashcan volume
- Files in Trashcan are read-only; directories can only be restored (no read access)
- Has two virtual disk.infos for empty/full state - the only file that can be written
- Supports removable volumes
Ambient integration:
- Trashcan icon on desktop - can be emptied with the context menu, supports dropping files
- Regular listers/icon views - files can be trashed with a hotkey or context menu
- Lister/icon view inside Trashcan - files can be restored to their original location

AROS: AEROS for Odroid U2/U3 and CuBox-i available for free
Pascal Papara's Linux-hosted AROS distribution AEROS is available for free for Odroid U2 and U3 (but not for XU3) as well as for CuBox-i under the title link.
In future, Pascal Papara will not support the CuBox-i platform. Bug reports and similar ones are not requested any longer. Instead he will focus on the Odroid models XU3/XU4 as well as the Raspberry Pi and the Orange Pi. For the U2 and U3 there will be only available AROS updates, but no ones for the Linux part.

On Christmas version 0.43 of the email programm SimpleMail has been released for AmigaOS 3.x and AmigaOS 4. Now Miloslav Martinka has also compiled this version for AROS. The archive only includes the main programm.

AROS: 68k-Distribution Aros Vision RTG 3.2
Version 3.2 of Olaf Schönweiß' AROS/68k distribution Aros Vision now also includes Mapparium and AmiModRadio. Besides, the AROS system files, the libraries boards.library, icon.library and guigfx.library as well as the programms AmigaAMP, Eagleplayer, Free Pascal, Netsurf, ScummVM and Simplemail has been updated. AmigaOS 4: Enhancer Software 1.2
According to A-EON Technology in a press release (PDF file), a second update for the tool collection "Enhancer Software" has been released. Registered customers can download it for free on Amistore.
By installing the update, now the RadeonHD graphic card driver supports the Oland chips and updates of Warp3D Nova (version 1.34) and OpenGL ES 2.0 (version 1.12) as well as two new preferences (Sound Prefs, Time Prefs) are provided.

Toolbar images: AISS 4.22
Martin Merz has released an update of his "Amiga Image Storage System" (AISS) which "offers a photo-illustrative icon style for toolbar images" and "is an environment to store, access and maintain this toolbar images" under AmigaOS and other systems.
AISS 4.22 provides more than 8.800 graphics for the pictograms of AmigaOS 4. Due to compatibility reasons, all pictures and animations of the previous version are included as well.
