Accelerator board: ACA500 by Individual Computers can be preordered
The ACA500 developed by Individual Computers is supposed to be available before Christmas and now can be preordered. The Amiga 500-extension has a preinstalled Kickstart-"ROMs" (version 1.3 and 3.1) and it is possible to use an Amiga 1200 accelerator board developed by the same producer with an Amiga 500.

Features of the ACA500:
  • 68EC000-10 clocked at 14 MHz (i.e. double A500 clock)
  • 2 MB of physical RAM, entirely available for applications (minus 512 KB if MapROM is used)
  • external expansion, no need to open the A500
  • two Compact Flash card slots (each one of them bootable and able to read/write Amiga or PC formatted cards)
  • trapdoor memory expansions up to 1.8 MB FastMem still work (including RTC)
  • ChipMem expansions still work
  • custom expansion port for local hardware (14 MHz 16-bit, double Zorro speed)
  • clock port for hardware expansions, e.g. for Silversurfer or Catweasel Mk2
  • optionally expandable by adding an ACA-1220 / ACA-1231 / ACA-1232 card
  • licensed Kickstart ROM images 1.3 and 3.1 included in Flash-ROM
  • FAT95 file system also included in Flash-ROM
  • full WHDload compatibility incl. Quit key!

Retro-Gaming: WHDLoad 17.2
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups on your harddisk that were not compatible with anything but floppy disks.

Changes in version 17.2:
  • fix: cancelling directory preload (in the splash window pressing Esc or changing a option forcing restart) could cause memory list corruption
  • new: support for Zeus68k pseudo vbr added, allows to quit by key similar like a moved vector base, but only on interrupts not on exceptions
  • new: on AGA machines all color registers are read from the custom chips and written to the dump file
  • fix: WHDLoadCD32 works again with resload_DiskLoad, was broken in version 17.1 (issue #2633)
  • chg: utility ITD can now read files larger than 4 GiB (e.g. on SFS\2) and write to larger devices using TD64
  • chg: alignment for patch lists (resload_Patch/Seg) is now verified by WHDLoad to avoid problems on 68000/10
  • chg: the check for valid custom.aud*ptr introduced in version 17.1 can now be enabled via the new option ChkAudPt/S
  • fix: on Kickstart 2.0 (V37) option NoMemReverse/S is now always active to avoid problems which could lead to freezing during Preload or other memory allocations
  • chg: memory allocations improved if NoMemReverse/S is active, now these will succeed also if memory below BaseMemSize is free by trying to allocate until memory is above
  • fix: preload progress bar fixed on Kickstart 2.0 (V37), was using a V39 only utility.library function
  • new: added IF/ELSE/ENDIF conditional blocks to patch lists to simplify the handling of patches depending on ButtonWait/S and Custom1-5/N options (resload_Patch/Seg)
  • chg: detection of HRTmon builtin WinUAE improved to support if MMU protection is enabled with WHDLoad (CFOU!)
  • chg: options NTSC/PAL can be set global and local now, where the local one (CLI/Tooltype) will overwrite the global one (configuration file S:WHDLoad.prefs)
  • new: WHDLoad now sets the screen mode in HRTmon to the video mode specified for the installed program, with that HRTmon will always uses the same video mode (PAL/NTSC) as WHDLoad, for correct operation at least HRTmon version 2.35 is required
  • chg: audio.device is only opened when present in execs device list, this saves some memory if it isn't initilized already
  • chg: install script template now supports also the diskimage device by Fredrik Wikstrom (Psygore)
  • chg: option FullChip/S can also set globally now
  • new: support for interrupt vector redirect feature of ACA500 on 68000 added
  • chg: added a kludge to preserve the largest free memory block until PreLoad in situations where multiple small free blocks are available to increase the likelihood of being able to cache a large disk image

Amedia Computer announces USB-keyboard with real Amiga-keys
During the next weeks the French trader Amedia Computer will offer USB-keyboards in black or beige/white which are equipped with real Amiga-keys - in the past, similar projects only used Windows-keys with labels.

A picture made available by Amedia shows some more changes compared with an usual PC-keyboard:

The "menu"-key became a BoingBall-key and either the ScrollLock or the Ende-key are additionally labeled with "Help". Besides, the curly brackets are placed again above the numeric keypad.

Keyboard layouts for Great Britain (QWERTY) and French (AZERTY) are supposed to be available, but a German version is not planned. Amedia did not specify which company will produce the keyboards.

The keyboards have an USB-port and will be exclusively sold by Amedia. Preordered, the keyboard costs 199 Euro. The normal price is about 220 Euro. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Floppy-Emulator: Raspberry pi as disk drive replacement
The Italian Maurizo Ramondo has replaced the disk drive of his Amiga 500 by a Raspberry Pi: The single-board computer was connceted to the internal floppy port of the Amiga with a simple adapter developed by Ramondo and in this way emulates two disk drives.

As data medium the SD-card of the Raspberry Pi is used - the credit-card-sized computer was put in the A500, so it is accessable through the original disk drive slot. The emulated floppy is ready seven seconds after booting the Amiga because Ramondo did not want to use Linux and instead of it uses a self developed programm, which has 240 KB.

After a reset, the Amiga boots a setup programm. There you can assign one or several ADF-images to the emulated drives. While operating you can switch between the ADF-files with a key.

The developer made available all documents as well as the software on his website for free. (cg) (Translation: dr)

AROS: AEROS beta version 5 for Raspberry Pi
The fifth beta version of Pascal Papara's Debian-Linux-hosted AROS-distribution AEROS for the Raspberry Pi now also is available for unregistered users - as usual without the lx-command which can launch Linux-applications out of AROS.

In this version AROS-ARHMfh-components of Krzysztof 'deadwood' Smiechowicz were updated, clicking on AHI pref icon doesn't crash it anymore and the icons are "not as ugly as" in the last release. (snx) (Translation: dr)
