UAE: "AmiRun" directly starts an application instead of Workbench
'AmiRun' is a patch for Richard Drummond's UAE which allows you to directly run an executable Amiga file instead of the Workbench. It is usefull if you want to run a hard disk game without dealing with the Amiga's Workbench.

To activate this function, you need to download the sources for UAE and AmiRun, patch the UAE sources and recompile the emulator afterwards. From now on, 'UAE -e filename' will start the emulator, boot the emulated Amiga and then run the program 'filename' instead of Workbench. (cg) (Translation: cg)

Found: Chinese AOne-product
Ingo Schmitz sent us this picture to the topic "AOne". We wonder: Who is Ve Wong and is there a connection to KMOS? In any case the newest product of Eyetech seems to be smaller than a MiniITX - at least so long until you will not add water. Apple: New iMacs still not there - old ones not available any longer
Curiosity at Apple: The company seems not to be able to deliver iMacs during the next months. While the new products of the known series will come not before September to the market the producer does not accept orders for the current computers any longer. It seems not to be clear if this situation will take influence on the profit of the company. (cs) (Translation: dr)

amiga-news.de: Comment script improved once more
The latest comment script from June the 26th has been improved again due to several reader's hints and advices.

Update

Bug fixes:
  • A session already runnig had been started again sometimes which led to an error message.
  • URLs within the comments with upper cases other than 'A' got no working link for clicking (Petra Struck).
  • At URLs within the comments which include a '=' the generated link was incomplete and not working (Martin Heine, Christoph Gutjahr).
  • When clicking on "Notify staff about this message" button the session ID was not passed through, thus leading in a loss of the login status.
Changes:
  • The [Permalink] and "Notify staff about this message" button reside now in the brackets in the upper line together with (News message, ...) (oGALAXYo, _PAB_, Christoph Gutjahr).
  • "Notify staff about this message" button as graphic (oGALAXYo, cbs). Suggestions for a clear icon are welcome.
  • Colour for the admin comments is now '#009999' (Petra Struck).
  • New: alt-Text 'Notify staff about this message' is repeated as title attribute of the button (DaFreak, Christoph Dietz).
If you encounter problems with the new script or discover bugs we kindly ask you to report this in detail (including information about the used OS and browser) to our staff.

IBrowse: New IBPreferences custom class available
Testing under OS4 revealed a long standing bug in the IBrowse 2.3 preferences custom class, which manifested itself as a crash as soon as the preferences were launched. After a short testing period, the IBrowse development team is pleased to announce the availability of the new bugfixed custom class.

The developers recommend that all users of IBrowse 2.3 install the new custom class, even if they do not have the crash under OS4-Pre, or even use OS4, as the bug is still present and a potential problem.

Note: Those selected users that also tested the fix prior to release should also install this final release in place of the test version they were sent. (cg)

Kickflash OS4 firmware updated
Version 1.6 of Kickflash OS4 is now available on the website of Coyote Flux and our support page. This is a major update with many improvements over the last version.

The firmware now supports multiple Kickstart remapping. The remapping of 512KB Kickstarts works with the MapROM feature of the Cyberstorm MK1/MK2/MK3/PPC, A3640 and the BlizzardPPC boards. Additionally it supports Retro Remapping to make any Amiga start in Kickstart 1.3 mode when the joystick button is held during reset. This requires a 34.005 Kickstart ROM and uses Relokick's internal relocation table to rekick the system. This lets you disable the caches by pressing the left mousebutton during the Kickstart 1.3 floppy boot screen, which makes a lot of older programs compatible with faster systems.

Many more resident modules can now be installed at the same time, and many more filetypes are supported, such as the latest (non-public) ram-handler version 51.6.

Other changes have been made to the hunk handling, AmigaOS 3.9 reset handler code, memory handling and the OpenOXYPPort support code.

Special thanks fly out to Peter Riede, who has helped a lot during the development and testing of this product.

amiga-news.de: comments script enhanced
After enhancing the comments function in March 2004 with the possibility of an optional registration Sven Drieling has now further improved the script.

Update

Changes:
  • Login now via HTML form including logged in-stay option instead of the login via HTTP authentification.
  • After login/logout as well as after sending a comment you stay on the original page.
New features:
  • Preview - Before sending a comment you get a preview so you are able to do corrections.
  • Direct link - Within the comments there's now a direct link (without sessionID) so the coments can now easily be bookmarked and the link to a coment can easily be forwarded to others.
  • Admin comments - Three following stars '***' can now be entered only by admins. They are used for highlighting (green text, BLOCKQUOTE) of hints to the comments' presentation.
  • Admin - Various enhancements for an easier administration of the comments.
Bugfixes:
  • The '&'-separator in the URLs appears in the HTML source code now as '&'.
  • If the text of the comment now passes the allowed 10.000 characters the text won't be deleted anymore.
During the script change have some comment s gone into the Nirvana. We ask for your understanding.

Update 27-Jun-2004:
If problems or errors happen because of the new script we ask for a most detailed and comprehensive description of these in the comments. Please name also the used browser. We will fix appearing bugs one by one as soon as possible.

Designers and musicians for new AmigaOS
For the games project "TripleA" (working title) designers and musicians are looked for. To say it straight away there will be no pay for it.

The official designer(s) and musician(s) will get free access to all games versions. Of course, they'll be mentioned in the game credits. In return the graphic and music files will be part of the official release.

Graphics:
  • The games graphics are fully 32bit, so everything from render graphics to cartoon graphics can be used.
  • The single games objects aren't restricted by the resolution.
  • The minimum number of needed objects can be enhanced by the designer (!) and will be automatically integrated into the levels by the games engine.
  • The number of animations is also not limited.
Music:
  • It is thought of a music player similar to the one already existing in BoulderDäsh. Various tests with Protracker AHI players are still running.
  • The musician should therefore have knowledge in composing with Protracker and should be capable to create subdued (lift/golf-course) music, too.
  • The possibility of creating sound effects is advantageous.
Interested people can mail directly. Please use "Grafiker" or "Musiker" as subject so the mails don't end in the SPAM filter.

For easy selection, designers can attach a picture showing at least three animation phases of a walking person e.g. a cartoon person. Musicians can attach a small piece of music.

Questions about the kind of game or similar won't be answered.

Microsoft warns of specially critical lack of security
Today Microsoft which is the worldwide biggest producer of software has pointed out to a critical lack of security in its WWW-browser Internet Explorer which has been known for some weeks. According to the statement users can be infected by Trojans on pages which seems to be reliable. This applies to servers which use the Microsofts Internet Information Services (IIS) and which have been manipulated by another lack of certainty. This can be fixed by a patch. The lack in the Internet Explorer can be only fixed by installing of a preversion of the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP but which should not be used on computers which are used in the production. You also can set the preferences of security of the Internet Explorer to "high" but thus you cannot use JavaScript any longer. Those ones who do not want to risk something should not use the Internet Explorer as long as it is not fixed. (cs) (Translation: dr)

Dealer: point.design closed
Not long ago we could proudly deliver the first AmigaOS 4.0 version to our AmigaOne customers. We are very delighted about this.

Nevertheless point.design in Austria has been closed because of personal reasons. I will move to Phoenix, AZ, in the USA because of a job offer. The desicion has been not easy for me but I had to use this chance. This unfortunately means the end for point.design and for OASE, too.

It has been a very exciting time. We succeeded in building up something in a market which to many users was alreday dead. We helped to organize the "AmigaOS 4 on Tour", have organized a show event in Austria called OASE and have tried to offer products and support for Amiga users.

So I am really delighted that we finally succeeded in publishing the AmigaOS-pre-CD. I am still looking forward to new Amiga products.

I want to thank you all customers and all who helped us. It made lot of fun to work with you.

YOUR
Jürgen & Silke Schober

PS: Maybe I will make it to see Sacramento in July. ;) (snx) (Translation: dr)
