Motorola has announced an important breakthrough at developing of semiconductor-materials: The producer succeeded in putting gallium-arsenid-transistors in a narrow gallium-arsenid-layer which grows on a silicon-wafer. This breakthrough is supposed to enable new chip generations with combined silicon- and light-issueing transistors - with it cheap optical fiber-network-solutions are supposed to be enabled.«
