Accelerator board: PiStorm68K
Since the beginning of this year, we have been reporting on Ranko Rodic's turbo card project "PiStorm68K" (video): a special edition of the PiStorm turbo card which, unlike the original, can accommodate a Raspberry Pi as a 68000 CPU emulator as well as a physical Motorola -68000 CPU (neither included), allowing users to switch between emulated and real CPU operation with a convenient physical switch. He is now offering the first ten units (currently eight still available) for the equivalent of around 81 Euro in his shop. Key features:
- Dual CPU Capability: Effortlessly toggle between a Raspberry Pi-powered 68000 CPU emulator and a genuine Motorola 68000 CPU using an onboard physical switch, providing maximum compatibility and versatility.
- Premium 6-Layer PCB with ENIG Gold Immersion: Crafted with a high-quality 6-layer printed circuit board featuring Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) for superior conductivity, durability, and corrosion resistance.
- Enhanced Power Management: Equipped with a resettable fuse and improved decoupling for stable and reliable power delivery, ensuring optimal performance under demanding workloads.
- LED Indicators: Monitor power status at a glance with dedicated LED indicators for +5V, +3.3V, and +1.8V (when required), simplifying troubleshooting and system diagnostics.
- Optimized Design for Larger Raspberry Pi Boards: The board’s thoughtful layout ensures easy connectivity for larger Raspberry Pi models, with connectors positioned to avoid interference and streamline installation.
- Iconic AmiCube Aesthetics: Showcasing the signature AmiCube design, the PiStorm68K combines functionality with a visually striking look that complements retro systems like the Minimig.
- Open-Source Commitment: The PiStorm68K is an open-source project, with Gerber files to be released soon, empowering the community to build and customize their own boards.
As the developer writes, the PiStorm68K has not yet been tested with the Amiga 500 or Amiga 2000, but only with the Minimig. (dr)
