Update of AmigaSYS 1.7.1 for E-UAE (beta version)
AmigaSYS is available in a new beta version for E-UAE. AmigaSYS is a collection of a comfortable Workbench environment for use with the Amiga emulator UAE in the way of AIAB ("Amiga in a box").

AmigaSYS contains no Kickstart-ROM because of legal reasons and you need a Workbench 3.0/3.1-disk. The installation itself runs automatically.

To the current beta version for E-UAE Calo Nord wrote:

"Many users have already heard of AmigaSYS and some of you were missing the E-UAE-Version for Linux, MorphOS and AmigaOS4. Now there is a first and also last version for E-UAE. Because of the limited possibilities of E-UAE we will not work with it in future.

We have released a beta version of AmigaSYS 1.7.1 with little modifications for E-UAE. Under MorphOS the packet unfortunately does not work proper which is caused by E-UAE.

Under AmigaOS4 there is a bug when unarchiving the Startup-Sequence. After the installation this must be copied manually from the archive to the installed AmigaSYS directory. A packet created under AmigaOS4 will follow soon.

Under Linux AmigaSYS should work so far with the known limitations. If there are bugs after installing the archive the packet probably was extracted in a wrong way. This is not caused by AmigaSYS but by the unarchiver program or the Linux file system.

The current version has been successfully tested under AmigaOS4, Debian Linux PPC, SuSE 9.2 x86, Mandrake Linux 10.1 x86 and Mandrake Linux LE 2005 x86.

Because we will not develop further for E-UAE there is no support. But bug reports can be always sent to my e-mail address. If E-UAE should get remarkable progress some times later I probably will continue my work."

FreeCNC supports early Command & Conquer games. The C&C1 demo version works but may crash when quitting it. Red Alert does not work.

Pegasos: New Linux "LiveCD" Niktarix
Nick Niktaris has created another Linux "LiveCD" called nektarix for the Pegasos (ODW) (screenshots).

Compounds of Knoppix, Kanotix and Debian Sarge were used; beside the kernel 2.6.11 there is also KDE 3.3.2, UnionFS, Mozilla/Firefox, Open Office and GIMP.

UnionFS, which takes some time during the boot up process, offers a workflow as if the machine was booted from a hard disk - one may install or remove .deb files.

The V0.03 is the first public version, which may contain some serious bugs and not all planned features are integrated yet.

Search for the Best Websites of Germany
Everyone certainly knows about the problems with search engines. When you type in your search words you get a long list of hits, but most of them don't have a thing to do with what you're looking for. However there's an unusual searcher that's been established, one that targets the websites that you're really after. "Turn the page, don't Google it" is the new trick to find your way in the Internet maze. The "Web Address Book" is a reference work in book form.

CAD: Full version of "Cycas" released to Aminet
Cycas is a program for architectural drawing in two and three dimensions. Additional to the normal CAD function Cycas offers some special elements and techniques for architecture and construction drawing.

Perspectives, isometries and planar views of a building can be rendered as line graphics and can also be reworked.

3D data can be exported in different exchange formats to programs which can render graphics from the data. That allows a rapid and high quality simulation of buildings.

Further development of the Amiga version is put to halt currently, for that reason the latest full version is now available for free.

Amiga User List: GAUHPIL database reworked
The GAUHPIL (Geographical Amiga Users Home Page Internet List) is a MySQL based database created and moderated by Dietmar Knoll. It contains website addresses of Amiga users, that can be questioned by continent and country. Additionally, it features a flexible search function.

In the past few weeks, the PHP scripts have been completely reworked and new functions have been added. The former country search links have been replaced by "real" country lists and a few more flags and internal links have been added.

The moderation script now finally allows to add new links, that have been mailed to the moderator. Nevertheless, the preferred way should be that interested users type in their data themselves.

Currently, the GAUHPIL lists 730 users from 39 countries. The number of users for each country can be found on the page "All Countries". (snx)

Mac emulator: Basilisk II ported to MorphOS
Ilkka Lehtoranta has ported Basilisk II version 0.9 to MorphOS. The open source program by Christian Bauer emulates a 68k Mac.

The MorphOS version is an early release with only a very basic user interface and - as it seems - a bug with the palette on 8 bit screens.

Ethernet, SCSI and audio output should work, the author doesn't take any responsibility if the program leads to unwanted system damage.

Usage requires a so called "OldWorld" ROM as well as a 68k version of the Mac OS (up to version 8.1). Mac OS 6.0.x, 7.0.x and 7.5.3 may be downloaded for free from Apple.

TextEditor.mcc: version 15.10 released
After the saving of the source code and releasing the MUI custom class TextEditor.mcc under the open source licence LGPL it is now available for download in the first public version (15.10) on the project homepage of the Texteditor.mcc open source team.

Next to some long awaited error fixes in this class PPC native versions for AmigaOS4 and MorphOS were created that are included in the archive.

As it is the first public open source version and some assembler coded parts had to be ported to C the authors point out that there may occur problems especially when importing and exporting text.

In this case the authors ask you to to fill in a Bugtracker report with a description as it is standard with open source projects on sf.net. (snx) (Translation: wk)

MorphOS: Demo version of Pixel32 released
A demo version of the image/photo/animation painting/editing and retouching application Pixel32 has been released also for MorphOS (screenshot). The MorphOS version requires PowerSDL by Ilkka Lehtoranta.

This is an alpha demo version of Pixel32. It may still contain bugs, typos and even unfinished functions. Especially the PowerPC versions are quite new and may be not as stable and usable as the x86 versions. If you find any bug or Pixel32 crashes, please e-mail the .debuglog file from Pixel32 directory to the author with a small description what you were doing.

In the demo version there are two limitations: a visible watermark in images and a small annoying dialog box informing you about using only a demo version.

IOSPIRIT: Amiga pages moved, news from the web shop
IOSPIRIT's AMIGA pages, for already some time now, have moved to amiga.iospirit.de. Since there were no other product pages until now, the company domain has redirected to this subdomain until now. With the release of the IOSPIRIT's Mac software "Picture Arena", the redirection has been changed to picturearena.com. The AMIGA pages will of course stay online. Regarding the company domain, a portal site is planned for the future, that will then also link to the AMIGA pages.

Further news:

The shop system has been reworked from ground up. Orders can now be made much easier and faster - an accout is no longer required. Furthermore IOSPIRIT GmbH now accepts American Express credit cards in addition to Visa and Mastercard. The free bundling of drivers introduced with the last promotion will be kept. The VHI RS232 and IOUSB DigiCam driver packages will be bundled with VHI Studio, the IOUSB Scanner Package will be bundled with fxSCAN respectively. They come for free at no additional cost, but therefore without support and functional guarantee. (cg)
