Bounty-Team (ANF)

Bounty System opening on pegasosforum.de
After it was decided to launch a bounty system three months ago on pegasosforum.de, first of all, project suggestions were gathered, and then the five most popular bounties were determined by means of a poll. The evaluation of the received votes is now complete and the following bounty projects have been opened up:
  1. [Bounty #0007]Printing system
  2. [Bounty #0018]GTK-MUI wrapper
  3. [Bounty #0006]Spreadsheet
  4. [Bounty #0014]FTP client with SSL/SFTP/SCP
  5. [Bounty #0001]Instant Messenger

For every project, there is a support thread in the Bounty-Bay of the Pegasos forum with up-to-date status information like, for example, the state of donations, progress information, milestones reached so far, screenshots as previews of the functions implemented so far, etc.

In addition, with immediate effect, the respective bounty can be donated to via PayPal there. The donated money will be received by the AmigaClub Hamburg registered association and will be kept on the PayPal account until the payment date.

In addition to the bounties already opened, there is the possibility for everyone to suggest so-called "self-bounties." However, for these, some requirements are to be fulfilled, like the payment of a "starting donation" of at least 25 euros, for example. Further details can be gathered from the bounty rules.

Programmers that are interested in the implementation of a bounty are asked to contact the bounty team. This can be carried out via the corresponding support thread in the Bounty-Bay or via E-Mail to bounty-team@amigaclubhamburg.de. (cg) (Translation: cad)

AmigaOS 4: Cinnamon Writer 0.58
Claus Desler's Cinnamon Writer is an SDL-based word processor for AmigaOS 4 (screenshot), aiming to be compact, efficient and to provide the mostly used functions.

New version includes:
  • Experimental Printer support
  • Experimental Export PDF support
  • Improved font handling - support for unlimited fonts
  • Increased stability
  • Optimized code - CW should now be usable on Amigas with a slow CPU
  • Minor GUI changes
Please note that with this version, no fonts are provided. CW uses (all) the fonts in Fonts:_Truetype directory. CW uses Bitstream Vera Sans as default font. If you don’t have this font installed, you can download it from the fonts download area of desler.be.

CW uses truetype fonts, which can be downloaded from the internet (or taken from an old version of CW). If you have installed OWB and the fonts used by OWB, CW should be able to use these fonts.

Printer and PDF export is experimental. You will probably experience artefacts in your PDF documents. Furthermore, the author cannot guarantee that Printer support works since he doesn’t have a printer himself. Printer and PDF support is based on Ghostscript. If you have used command line Ghostscript to print a file, please mail the author the command and a description on the printer used. He will recompile a CW version that is optimized for your printer and return the new version to you.

When visiting desler.be for Cinnamon Writer, please note the possibility of joining the newsletter, to participate in Cinnamon Projects or join to get access to forums. If you like Cinnamon Writer and would you would like to support further development, please consider making a donation. (snx)

MorphOS: OpenTTD 0.6.2 Release Candidate #1
OpenTTD is an open-source clone of the well-known PC strategy game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" from the 90ies with many extensions - among others a network modus, individual graphic sets and over 24 languages. The complete list of changes in version 0.6.2 you can read in the changelog.

The current version should still run under MorphOS 1.4.x (not tested). But according to Christian Rosentreter who compiles the MorphOS version the next versions will require MorphOS 2.0. If anybody wants to use OpenTTD under an earlier MorphOS version will have to compile game for himself. If there really should be a high demand Christian Rosentreter would do it as before. Please give him a feedback.

Furthermore on the website of Christian Rosentreter there is a PayPal button where you can show your appreciation and interest for OpenTTD - because Christian Rosentreter himself have not played this game for years anymore. (snx) (Translation: dr)

Open Video Toaster: Instant Bounties
Press release Chicago, Illinois – July 14th, 2008 -- Visual FX company DiscreetFX LLC Inc., in order to stimulate development for the Video Toaster Flyer source code DiscreetFX is launching an Instant Bounty contest. What is an Instant Bounty? This is a bounty that is paid once a programmer has requested and been assigned a programming task for Open Video Toaster.

This does take a little trust on our part since bounties are paid before coding even begins. Programmer past developments and applications will be taken into serious consideration and help gain them approval for OVT Instant Bounties. Programmers should review source code for the bounty in question before applying for consideration. Each development task for OVT will have set guidelines and coding time limits.

The larger goal of this contest is to stimulate development of video editing and video production software for MorphOS, Amiga OS 4.0 & AROS. This also allows us to see which 3rd party developer base is most passionate and serious about bringing their favorite operating system of choice back into the mainstream. Dedication and passion is what will bring Amiga successor operating systems back into relevance not mysterious companies who's true motives are unknown. Once upon a time with Video Toaster the Amiga was king of desktop video and computer assisted video editing. While in today's modern times it can no longer be king it could yet again be one of the many choices customers consider. That at least was the hope and dream we had when Open Video Toaster was launched. If your interested in video editing living again on Amiga OS type systems please donate to one of your favorite operating system bounties. DiscreetFX has already placed a starter donation in each of these bounties. Even if you can only donate a little it will help and you will be named and thanked on the Open Video Toaster website. Donations are paid instantly via Paypal to programmers that are assigned each bounty.

First three of many OVT Instant Bounties are for the Toaster Character Generator:

Port ToasterCG to AROS and remove hardware dependencies. Making CG take advantage of NVIDIA or ATI framebuffer cards is a bonus for the bounty but not required. AROS CG, $100 is already donated by DiscreetFX.

Port ToasterCG to Amiga OS 4.0 and remove hardware dependencies. Making CG take advantage of NVIDIA or ATI framebuffer cards is a bonus for the bounty but not required. OS 4.0 CG, $100 is already donated by DiscreetFX.

Port ToasterCG to MorphOS and remove hardware dependencies. Making CG take advantage of NVIDIA or ATI framebuffer cards is a bonus for the bounty but not required. Morph CG, $100 is already donated by DiscreetFX.

ToasterCG source code is available from the title link. (snx)

individual Computers: New address, Catweasel-Software-Update
Press releaseIn may of this year, we have moved to new premises with more than three times the space that our office in Aachen had to offer. Since we still don't run a retail shop, we have moved to the pictureque area of Simmerath, located in the natural park of the northern Eifel region. With this new location, there's also a change in our shipping partner: Parcels within Germany and the EU are now shipped with DPD.

New drivers for Catweasel MK4: The new drivers V 2.5.0.0 for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (32-bit versions) are fixing a few bugs in handling 5,25 inch drives. The new imagetool V3.1 can now read and write three new formats:
  • VersaDOS HD: These disks have been provided by Perfint tech from India. They are used to store medical imaging data. With new, faster computers now being able to retrieve data from older medical equipment, lots of money can be saved, and up-to-date medical service with modern image processing algorithms can be provided at lower cost. We're especially happy about this use case, as it has extremely high value to threshold countries.
  • VersaDOS 3HDDI: These disks have been provided to us by Matisa from Switzerland, a company that makes machines for railroad track construction and maintenance. The disk was mangled and obviously written on a very bad drive, but we managed to retrieve enough data for implementing this new format.
  • HP4145: This disk was provided to us by Bosch (Hildesheim, Germany), where it is used in semiconductor test-equipment.
Another new feature of the imagetool is the possibility to save d64/d71/d81 images of Commodore disks with additional error information. The automatic recognition of disk formats now gives a list of possible formats instead of stopping at the first positive try, which makes the function a lot more useful. You can find more details in the readme-files of the archive.

New Catweasel MK4 controllers will be back in stock in august of this year. To bridge this bottleneck in supply, we have cleared our safety-stock of Catweasel MK4 controllers. To our knowledge, all pre-orders are served now. Our retail partners are taking orders that will be shipped as soon as the new production run is available. (snx) (Translation: dr)
