Audio-Player: Updates of decoding-engines for AmigaAmp
Thomas Wenzel has published new versions of all decoding-engines for his Audio-Player AmigaAmp. News in version 2.19:
- Fixed possibly uninitialised pointer causing crashes and/or corrupted memory
- Better detection of average bitrate for files that don't have a XING header

AmigaOS 4: Status update for Classic version
According to Hans-Jörg Frieden from Hyperion in a
thread
on amigaworld.net the OS4-Team will, after finishing the AmigaOne version, concentrate on porting the operating system to classic Amigas with PPC extension.
The main problem with the Classic version is the support of the drivers: Currently there are native drivers
for BVision-/CVision-graphic cards, the SCSI-Host of the CyberstormPPC as well as for the PCI-Busboard of Prometheus. If and in which way the Mediator-busboards will be supported with native
code is still not clear. But the existing PCI solution which is porvided by Elbox with its hardware should also work with AmigaOS 4.
There is still not a working driver for the SCSI-Host of the BlizzardPPC.
The question is how existing (68k-) drivers come along with the new memory management - according to Frieden some authors have not accurately followed the guidelines. Especially the DMA-drivers could become a problem. At the same time when the Classic version of AmigaOS 4 will be finished a list with compatible hardware will be published.
During the quarter of 2007 AmigaOS 4 for classic Amigas may be published. But the author points out that this is not an precise date.

AmigaOS 4: Potrace 1.7-2
Alfred Faust has released a second revised version of his AmigaOS 4 port of potrace. The program converts black and white bitmap images into free scalable vector graphics.
Input formats: pbm, pgm, ppm, bmp
Output formats: eps, ps, pdf, svg, pgm, xfig, gimppath (experimental)
The used conversion algorithm from the professor of mathematics, Peter Selinger, can be integrated from programmers in own projects via a link library.

PPC-Hardware: Availability of Sam440ep for the first Quarter of 2007
The three italian dealers Alternative Holding Group, Soft 3 and Virtual Works, who have announced the soc platform (System on a Chip) Sam440 at the end of last year, have founded a common affiliated company called ACube Systems Srl. for production and distribution of the Sam440 product line.
The availability of the company's first product, the mainboard Sam440ep, is planned for the first quarter of 2007. Besides this further solutions for the embedded and desktop market are in work. More news will be announced within the next weeks. (cg) (Translation: tz)

Genesi: XGI developer program launched
Within the sope of Genesi's XGI develoment program project proposals are accepted now. The program should customize the graphic chips by XGI with drivers to the Power architecture.
The program is especially intended for those accepted participants of the Efika and Pegasos developer program, whose projects might benefit from XGI graphics. Accepted applications will get a Volari graphic board and, depending on actual availability, the according source code.
