AROS: Progress in May/June 2025
At the title link Nick Andrews has summarized the progress of the open source, AmigaOS 3.1 API compatible operating system AROS in the last two months.
For example, a TIFF datatype has been implemented, the gfx.hidd has been extended by SSE/AVX-optimized conversion routines and the GCC patches have been updated to GCC 15.

Print/PDF magazine: Amiga Addict, issue 38
The new issue 38 of the British magazine Amiga Addict (June 2025) is dedicated to the long-established company HiSoft Systems. HiSoft was not only known for legendary developer tools such as Devpac and HiSoft BASIC, but also brought hardware such as the Squirrel SCSI interface and various media drives to market. In the magazine, Phil South talks to co-founder Andy Pennell (now Principal Software Engineer at Xbox) about the exciting early days of the company and its significance for the Amiga community.

3D printable: Amiga 1200 External USB Keyboard Plug Mount
Dennis "0xDB" Busch has presented the 3D printing project "Amiga 1200 External USB Keyboard Plug Mount 3D printable" on itch.io, which can be used to print a mount for external USB keyboards for the Amiga 1200. The mount is designed so that it can be mounted on the top of the case without damaging it and fits into the moldings of the original case. USB adapters such as Jamie Retro's USB KBD Adapter are supported. The files are for private use only; commercial resale is prohibited. Emu68: Status update by developer Michael Schulz
About the Emu68 project, an emulation of the Motorola 68k processor, amiga-news.de first reported in March 2024. Now developer Michal Schulz has posted a status update on Patreon. Under the title "I'm not dead!", Schulz assures that development is still active, even if things have been quiet lately. He reports progress on planned features and promises version 1.1.

Demo party: Results of the Posadas game competition (update)
At the beginning of March, the Spanish YouTube channel Amiga Wave launched a programming competition for the game construction kit RedPill (amiga-news.de reported), whose entries were presented - together with two other games (The Last Door und Apagón!) - and awarded prizes at the Posadas demo party (video tour) held north of Seville last weekend. Arcade shooter: Demo version of ZorkLand
Amiten Games (among others AmiSeaFox) has released a demo version of an arcade shooter that was started back in 2013 (video). Using the Extra Halfbrite mode, up to 64 colours can be displayed simultaneously. At least 1 MB of chip RAM (2 MB recommended) and a 68020 processor are required.

Do it yourself: Programmable ROM module KickSmash32, version 1.7
KickSmash32 is a Kickstart ROM replacement module that can be programmed directly under AmigaOS as well as via USB-C from Linux and provides eight flash banks for different ROM files. Text editor: Lite XL 2.1.8r1 for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS
George “walkero” Sokianos has updated his port of the SDL-based text editor Lite XL. Version 2.1.8r1 is based for the first time on the current generation of the SDL library 'SDL3', and as a result runs about 10-15 percent slower than previous releases. The author has made extensive analyses of his code and informed the Lite XL team as well as the maintainers of SDL for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS about any optimisation potential he found.

Tetris variant: A100
In the Tetris variant "A100" (Video), new bricks are placed by the player on a square playing field, eliminating the "pieces falling down" mechanism of the original game. Once all positions in a column or row are occupied, the column/row is emptied. The game should run on any Amiga with at least 512 KB chip RAM.

Chris Young's Avalanche is a ReAction-based graphical user interface for the unarchiving system XAD, which also supports the xfdmaster.library and can search for viruses using the xvs.library. AmigaOS 4: Further development steps for the clib4 library
With clib4 Andrea 'afxgroup' Palmatè is working on a variant of the official ADTools clib2, which should be specific for AmigaOS 4 in order to be easier to maintain and above all to add functions that are difficult to implement on original Amigas. MorphOS: Population dynamics program Räuber & Beute 1.5
The program "Räuber & Beute" (Predator & Prey) by Ulrich Beckers is used to calculate, display and manipulate the population dynamics in a simple predator-prey system. The program is based on the Lotka-Volterra algorithm. It has also been extended with a few environmental parameters.

Three weeks ago, Youtuber Christian 'Perifractic' Simpson announced in a video that he had received an offer to take over Commodore B.V., the owner of the remaining Commodore trademark rights. PC extension: mount HD partition from "KCS Power PC Board" on AmigaOS
The KCS Power PC Board equips an A500 or A2000 with a miniature DOS PC - the computer can then be operated alternatively in Amiga or PC mode. Sander von der Burg has succeeded in developing a simple device driver for AmigaOS that mounts any DOS partitions created by the PC on AmigaOS. Demo scene: Posadas Demoparty 2025
Deep in the south of Europe, the demoscene has been celebrating irregularly since 1995 at the Posadas party in the city of the same name north-east of Seville - this year from next friday to sunday.
The Posadas has its origins in the Amiga demo scene, and this is also reflected in the current competitions: only entries for Amiga/OCS or Amiga/AGA are permitted in the demo, intro and cracktro competitions.

Hardware project: Parallel port sampler "Amiga Stereo Audio Digitizer 1.3"

Sami Vehmaa's 'North' is an engine developed with AmiBlitz 3, in which you control a character that walks in an isometric view through a winter landscape. MorphOS: openssl3.library update for MorphOS 3.19
Press release: A new version of MorphOS OpenSSL3 library has been released. This version includes fixes for two minor security vulnerabilities: CVE-2024-9143 and CVE-2024-13176. More importantly, it adds functionality enabling support for QUIC protocol, allowing applications to implement the latest version of the hypertext transfer protocol (i.e. HTTP/3).
While neither the vulnerabilities fixed, nor the new features added are absolutely necessary, you can install this version of openssl3.library to benefit from the improvements already with MorphOS 3.19: Download
To install it, copy the file to MOSSYS:Libs and reboot.

Preview video: Breakout clone Freak-Out
Michael Kafke already presented a preview version of his breakout clone "Freak-Out" at the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention (ARC) in Germany in 2023 (amiga-news.de reported). Now he shows in a new preview video the current state of his game, which is to run on an Amiga 500 and should offer 100 levels, 64-colour background graphics and a convenient level editor. Legal dispute: Hyperion can be held liable for copyright infringements
In April 2023, Hyperion won the first lawsuit with Mike Battilana and his
partners: The judge had essentially ruled that the plaintiffs Amino, Itec and Amiga Inc. could not sue for breach of contract or copyright infringement and that the only party entitled to sue - Amiga Corporation - should not be added as a plaintiff to the current proceedings due to a technicality and that it would have to sue separately. The so-called
"Amiga parties" appealed against all three decisions.

Open Hardware: Amiga Serial Midi Adaptor 1.3
The "Amiga Serial Midi Adapter" upgrades the MIDI interfaces on an Amiga. According to the developer, it converts the RX and TX signals of the serial port into the MIDI TTL standard and should therefore be compatible with (quote) "most Amiga MIDI software". Demoparty: Evoke from 15 to 17 August in Cologne
This year's edition of the demoparty "Evoke" will take place from 15 to 17 August at the AbenteuerHallenKALK in Cologne. In addition to various demo competitions for modern platforms, there will also be a competition for "alternative platforms", which explicitly includes retro computers. 7-bit: Firmware version 0.44 for Bluetooth adapter
Already one week ago firmware version 0.44 for the BlueLink control pad adapter from 7-bit was released. As the manufacturer announces at the title link, the Bluetooth adapter is now also available from Alinea.

MorphOS: Discord channel freely accessible / Exchange with IRC server
Since mid-May, the instant messaging provider Discord (Wikipedia) does also have a MorphOS server. After initially requiring an invitation to participate, access is now possible directly.
As Frank 'cyfm' Mariak explains at the title link, it is also possible to communicate in languages other than English in the "MorphOS Babylon" area. WHDLoad: Reinhold Kloth passed away
Reinhold 'Stingray' Kloth passed away already in November, shortly after his 50th birthday, as has only now become known. In addition to many demoscene productions as part of his membership in groups such as Scoopex, Scarab and Desire, he was also one of the most eager contributors to the WHDLOad project: 847 installations were created by him alone, and he was involved in 247 more.
Scoopex is planning a demo production in his memory and invites those who knew him to contribute a short text message at the title link.

RTG driver: Preferences editor "P96Prefs" 47.21 for P96
With "P96Prefs" Thomas Richter has written an improved, alternative preferences editor for the RTG driver P96. AmigaOS 3.2 or newer is required. Amiga emulator for the Web: vAmigaWeb 4.2.1
vAmigaWeb is an Amiga emulator for web browsers or as a progressive web app. The new version is now based on the core of vAmiga 4.2. In addition, file exchange between Amiga and host computer is now only possible via ZIP archive. In principle, you no longer need HDF files, as file exchange via ZIP archive is much easier and you don't need any extra tools to read HDF files.

Hardware analysis: boards.library 3.122
The boards.library decodes manufacturer IDs and product IDs of Amiga computers and shows what is installed in the Amiga and by whom. It is used, for example, by tools such as WhichAmiga and ReportPlus or AmigaOS' own ShowConfig (V46+).
Starting with version 3.120 the boards.library now checks the identify.library V45.0 and higher (amiga-news.de reported) for unknown boards and vice versa. Thus both libraries should be installed.

Amiga emulator for macOS: vAmiga 4.2
After two beta versions, Dirk Hoffmann has now released the final version 4.2 of his Amiga emulator "vAmiga" for macOS, which offers FileSystem code clean-ups.
At least macOS 13.5 is required.
