Sowjet speech encryption machine for telephone and radio
Right before the summer break a software premiere: the simulation of the Sowjet speech encryption machine "Elbrus". This is a military encryption device for telephone and radio that had been used at the USSR army and the NVA of the GDR. The signal is analogue encoded using a digital code i.e. you get an encrypted audio signal that can be broadcasted directly (without modem) analogue via telephone or radio. With the program you can en-/decode own audio files (or an audio stream of the AHI device). The program should be unique in the Web and is for now exclusively available for the Amiga (68k and PPC). A detailed description and a sound example can be found following the title link. (ps) (Translation: wk)

BruZard: The end

Because of professional reasons I give up all activities on the Amiga. This year I will still manage the AMIGAplus forum but I have been already looking for an user who will do it afterwards. Furthermore the projects "AmiBlitz" and "Stahl2003" are involved. The last mentioned one was a game project for AmigaPPC but it will be published only on Windows PCs because of the negative Amiga market.

Thank you for having 12 years fun with the Amiga and I wish all Amiga users a good prospect in which I cannot believe no more. I regret the farewell but I do not want to waste my time with an antiquated system which has no future. Cya Folks, may the Force be with you! (ps) (Translation: dr)

AudioLabs: New plugin for ProStationAudio (ASD-1)
ASD-1 is a new recursive delay with echoes running at different speed and pitch than the master signal. DSP implementation, not reproductable with analog fx devices. Works with any version of ProStationAudio for AmigaOS. Speed can be manually modulated in realtime (for recording to disk "realtime modulation performances" a full version of ProStationAudio is needed).

Video-Player: Frogger Version 2.0 Beta (Update)
It's been a while since last Frogger release, but I believe it was worth waiting ;) Version 2.0 has been basically written from scratch, and can now play, besides mpeg and str movies, also avi (Windows Media), qt (Quicktime), rm (RealMedia), asf/wmv (Advanced Streaming Format) and roq (ID games movie format) files. See features to learn more about what this baby can do for you. You can download version for PPC (PowerUP, WarpUP and MorphOS) as well as 68k version here. Most of audio/video codecs are now distributed as external plugins, so remember to download codecs, either ppc or 68k, depending on what version you prefer.

Please note, that this release should be considered as beta, with lot of things still missing, and with lot of bugs (some known, check included documentation for more info, and some still waiting to be discovered...) Now enjoy.

Alternative to the title link you can use also this mirror: http://highantdev.de/frogger/.

Update:
SVQ1 codec update.
An update to svq1 decoder is available at download page. This update fixes decoding video with width not 16 pixels aligned. Also, GRAY only decoding is now enabled. Source code archive with updated sources available as well. Last, but not least, there is missing frogger.iff image at download page. (ps)

Amithlon: release date of v2.0 postponed
The release date of the already by some Amiga dealers announced Amithlon v2.0 will probably be postponed. Bernd Meyer wrote on the Amithlon ml that the unfortunate connection with Haage & Partner in the past had made him once more trouble on the way to the release of Amithlon. That's why Bernd doesn't believe that the originally planned released date can be kept up. But he hopes that the delay won't take too long.

akJFIF/PNG/TIFF 45.1 now freeware and Amithlon-optimized
Starting with V45.1 (29.6.02), the datatypes akJFIF/PNG/TIFF are Freeware. The keyfile code and some other legacy stuff has been removed. This also may speed things up, since there are less special cases to be covered.

Furthermore, a couple of different optimizations in the 68k code have been made, some bugs were fixed and some amithlon/uae- specific optimizations have been made.

New compilation of FTPMount
Martin Elsner writes:
Alessandro Marinuzzi had some interesting ideas and an Italian catalog - so we updated FTPMount which can now be installed without permanent changes to your system - if you want ;)

I must confess that the executable is still the same, but I have just managed to compile it with StormC3 - it's a bit bigger, but I can now make some changes, so if you have some important ideas ...

Available on Aminet and on my homepage.

Programming Language: BlitzBasic (PC) Version 1.76
The BlitzBASIC update to version 1.76 has appeared. There are some bugfixes and a very interesting new texture flag 256. This makes it possible to draw textures much more quickly "on the fly" than was possible with normal texture flags up until now.

Additionally practical tests can now be performed that function perfectly, even with ScaleMesh() and multitexturing! (ps) (Translation: dm)

Albrecht Kinzkofer (E-Mail)

Hot: Hard Times for Internet Businesses (Update)
Yesterday Albrecht Kinzhofer brought the above article to our attention. In the article it is described that the Frankfurt credit card service provider EuroCard Systems made a contract with one customer, who does Web shipments. The reason is that there were too many dishonest customers.

Kinzhofer fears that this new development could affect many Amiga dealers, who only have the ability to pay COD, where the costs are usually bundled in with the price the customer pays.

We want to inquire of Amiga dealers, software houses and others, if they have had similarly bad experiences and what consequences have arisen from that.

Update:
In the comments section on the German side there have been many interesting points of view and other bits of information. (ps) (Translation: dm)

AmigaOS XL: Experiences with the H&P Big Tower 1800+ (V 1.27)
In my report, I describe the experiences I have made with the Big-Tower. Version 1.27 of the report contains several additions in the chapters "AmigaXL", "QNX" and "Software". The software table has been optically improved. Furthermore, I have a little goody for my loyal readers. But I won't tell more here.

Note: Amiga-Voyager shows only ads instead of the pictures. Therefore, I still recommend to use AWeb or disable background images in Amiga-Voyager. A move to a better server is to come after my vacation. But at that time, amiga-news.de will be on vacation. I hope that someone has written a report about Amithlon 2.0 until then. ;-) (ps)

  3. make your selection in the yellow box on the next page

Bill McEwen - June 23, 2002

A message to the Amiga Community, Present Past and Future:

I would first like to thank all of you who expressed your concern and shared your support for Gary Peake and his family when you learned of his heart attack. I can now share with you that Gary is looking forward to returning to work in the next couple of weeks. He, of course, was trying to send e-mail from the hospital (at one point, he thought that the beeping of a heart monitor was the logon sounds of a modem), but fortunately with his hands and legs restrained, as well as some very effective tranquilizers, they were able to keep him from the computer. Having said that, I wanted to personally thank each of you on behalf of Gary and his family for your kind words and support. more ... (ps)

Bernie Meyer announced Amithlon 2.0 for 1st July 2002 (Update)
Coming to this place on (or around :) July 1st:
A freely downloadable and distributable DEMO version of Amithlon 2.0, which can be unlocked to full functionality via a personalized keyfile.

Please be patient for just a little while longer....
Monday 24 June 2002 04:30:43 ? Bernd Meyer

You can find the following detailed announcement at Moobunny:
Amiga, Inc. and Bernd Meyer announce licensing of Amithlon 2.0.

June 23, 2002 - Snoqualmie, WA and Melbourne, Australia - Amiga, Inc. today announced the cross licensing of Amithlon 2.0. The agreement was made with the author and the inspiration behind Amithlon, Bernd "Bernie" Meyer.

As part of the agreement, Amiga will license Kickstart 3.1 and portions of Amiga OS 3.9 to be distributed as part of Amithlon 2.0. In turn, Amiga will actively promote and license Amithlon 2.0 to OEM customers looking for an Amiga emulator on x86 platforms.

Bill McEwen, Amiga President and CEO, said, "Bernie has been a good friend and partner to Amiga. I first demonstrated a beta version of Amithlon almost a year ago at the Sacramento show. Even then the quality of the product and its potential were obvious to me. Since then it has become a more polished, a clear reflection of the passion and skills that Bernie brings to the table."

I have also been impressed by the moral and ethical integrity that Bernie has displayed as he has partnered with Amiga. Too often in the past we have had to deal with companies who would like nothing better than to split the Amiga community. Bernie has always had the best interests of the community at heart and has created a product that we can all be truly proud of.?

"It is with great pleasure that I finally enter into a deal directly with Amiga", said Bernie Meyer. "This new version, to be distributed with Amiga's seal of approval, provides customers with a clear indication that Amithlon is an actively developed product with great prospects. This partnership will allow users of Classic AmigaOS to use their applications on modern, affordable hardware."

A demo version of Amithlon 2.0 will be available shortly which can be downloaded free of charge from the distribution site at http://www.amithlon.net/demo.shtml. The demo version may be upgraded to a fully functional version with a simple keyfile, which can be purchased online.

About Amithlon 2.0
The goal of the Amithlon project was to make AmigaOS 3.9 run on commodity PC hardware. Unlike other approaches to this problem (UAE, Fellow), Amithlon provides AmigaOS with complete control over the hardware. Hosted on a specially modified linux kernel, Amithlon's CPU emulation runs AmigaOS; All access to graphics, sound, networking and interface hardware is provided through standard AmigaOS drivers. Amithlon 2.0 is distributed as a self-booting CD-ROM image.

About Amiga:
In 1985, Amiga introduced the world to Multimedia with the launch of the incredible Amiga 1000, a revolution in hardware with dedicated audio and graphics chips and a revolution in software with the first 32 bit, fully pre-emptive, multitasking operating system. It then went on to dominate the 1980s and early 1990s, pioneering video and animation and giving rise to many of the top gaming companies of today. That tradition will continue with the launch of the brand new AmigaOne desktop computer and its companion, AmigaOS4.0, destined to set new standards and expectations in the world of digital living. Amiga can be reached on the web at http://www.amiga.com.

About Bernd Meyer:
Bernd Meyer is a freelance software designer with almost 20 years of experience in professional software development. He has studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in Germany and Australia, and is currently completing a PhD on Image Modeling at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. In 2000, two of Bernd's hobby projects got out of hand. One turned into Glicbawls, a category winner in the 2000 International Obfuscated C Code Contest, the other into a Just-In-Time compiler for the Amiga emulator UAE, providing it with much greater emulation speed. In 2001, Bernd further refined the JIT Compiler for inclusion in Amithlon.

Addition:
Meanwhile, an official press release by Amiga Inc. was released. (ps) (Translation: sk)

Test Ram disk for the image installer for use with Mandrake Linux PPC
Michael Heider:
On my homepage is now a Ram disk for testing purposes for the image installer available for download. With the image installer it is possible to install Linux PPC of different distributions on Amigas with PowerPC CPU by installing an image of a preinstalled Linux PPC distribution on an Amiga. This way is the image also already preconfigured in important areas for the Amiga.

Soon there will a CD containing the image installer and an image of Mandrake 8.2 PPC be released. (ps) (Translation: wk)

AmigaOS XL: Experiences with the H&P Big Tower 1800+ (Version 1.23)
In my report, I describe the experiences I have made with the Big-Tower. Version 1.23 of the report contains several additions in the chapters "Introduction", "Harddisk", "Amithlon", "AmigaXL" and "QNX". Also, the chapters have been sorted again, so that the "Software" chapter is again at the end.

Note: Amiga-Voyager shows only ads instead of the pictures. Therefore, I still recommend to use AWeb or disable background images in Amiga-Voyager. A move to a better server is also planned. (ps)
