Strategy game: LightTheLEDs
Rodrigo Vertulo, who previously published "Skinny Marley" (amiga-news.de reported), now wants to remind Amiga fans of their creative spirit with "LightTheLEDs" and offers an "electrifying challenge" with his new game, in which you have to connect batteries to LEDs, but have to go through at least one resistor to ensure that the circuit works correctly.
The game runs on any OCS Amiga and is available for the equivalent of around 2.40 euros.

Windows: WavConvert4Amiga 1.3 (update)
The Windows program WavConvert4Amiga is used to optimize audio files in Wave format for use on the Amiga or with tracker music programs. The range of functions includes any sample rate when converting to 8-bit mono format, support for both PAL and NTSC frequencies and note conversion from C-1 to B-3 for ProTracker.

Music competition: Winter edition of the Boozedrome
On February 22nd, the next Boozedrome will not take place on location in Helsinki, but this time purely on YouTube. Music modules of a maximum length of three minutes and a maximum size of 2 MB that can be played by HippoPlayer 2.45 without additional libraries can be submitted. Picture collection: Update of the Amiga Graphics Archive

Audio playback: Interview on the occasion of version 1.0 of AmiModRadio
Shortly before Christmas - after years of almost asymptotically approaching this version number - AmiModRadio 1.0 was released. Reason enough for us to ask its programmer 'Tygre' for an interview.
About the program: AmiModRadio accesses the more than twenty thousand music modules in Aminet, but also tens of thousands of tracks from Haxor.fi, Modland and Modules.pl, in order to download a piece of music, unpack it and play it on one of the playback programs such as AmigaAMP, DeliTracker, EaglePlayer, HippoPlayer, MultiPlayer or TuneNet. A rating function is also included. AmiModRadio is open source, the files are available on SourceForge and BitBucket. Anyone wishing to report bugs is asked to do so via the official bug tracker. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

Shoot 'em up: Sky Shapers available in a physical box edition
Sky Shapers is a 50 FPS vertically scrolling shoot 'em up from the Norwegian development team Digilicious Nibbles. With three levels and 37 different enemy types, boss fights, weapon upgrades and special weapons, high-quality sound and two levels of parallax scrolling, the game brings arcade flair to the Amiga. Sky Shapers includes an extensive introduction sequence, a bonus point screen and a permanent high score table. The game achieved a positive 88 percent in the December issue of Amiga Addict.

Flappy-Bird-clone: Happy Bat 1.2
The skill game "Happy Bat" has been developed by Carlos Zener for testing the high score function of the game development tool REDPILL (amiga-news.de reported). Happy Bat has now been updated to version 1.2, which features new graphics by Jordi Palome and a new music track for the initial level. In addition, executable files have been provided for Amigas with 68000 or 68020+ processors. The game requires a real or emulated Amiga with an AGA chipset.
"Happy Bat" is an adaptation of the game "Flappy Bird". The aim is to make a bat flap its wings by pressing the space bar or the joystick button, thus preventing it from hitting the ground or pillars, and guiding it safely through the level.
Happy Bat is provided both as a LhA archive and in ADF format. It can be downloaded in return for a voluntary donation.

"Joy of Killing" was a shoot'em up started in 1996 by the Polish development team S-Crew. The site "Amiga Games That Weren't", which collects information on unreleased Amiga titles, has now restored the demo produced at the time in co-operation with 'Rygar'.

Do it yourself: CompactFlash adapter AmigaCF for Amiga 600 and 1200
The CompactFlash adapter AmigaCF for the Amiga 600 and 1200 is connected to the internal IDE port not by cable like other variants, but is plugged directly into it instead. In addition, noises are made during access, as a substitute for those made when accessing a real 2.5" hard disk inside the computer.
The AmigaCF is intended for use directly on the mainboard - as it is unbuffered, it is not suitable for use on the IDE port of some turbo boards, i.e. those which require a buffered adapter instead.

Spillhistorie: Interview with Michael Haire (Microprose)
Hans Arne Jacobsen and Joachim Froholt have conducted another interview for the Norwegian website Spillhistorie - this time with Michael Haire, the former head of Microprose's graphics department.
Michael Haire worked on classics such as Sid Meier's Pirates! and Civilization. He entered the games industry in 1981 when he created cover art for a series of games for the TRS-80 8-bit computer. He quickly began to create game graphics and worked for the legendary game publisher and developer MicroProse from the mid-1980s.

In the video at the title link, the home computer and games console museum Yesterchips in Lützelbach (Hessen, Germany) deals with data recovery from the hard disk of an Amiga 1000. As this is not a SCSI or IDE hard disk, but one of the MFM hard disks used previously, the task was somewhat more complex.

As announced, Amiberry 7.0 has now been followed by the release of the slimmed-down version 5.8 of Amiberry-Lite. Game: Tank in a Dungeon 1.1 (update)
In "Tank in a Dungeon" you have to drive a tank through a labyrinth exposed by an earthquake in order to free researchers held captive by alien robots.
An Amiga with at least 1.5 MB RAM and Workbench 2.0 is required, an Amiga 1200 is recommended.

Version 1.1 is now available, which fixes a bug (flickering numbers in the score and player ammo have been removed) and also assigns the player a rank based on accuracy after completing all missions.

AmigaOS 4: New port of the game engine OpenJazz for Jazz Jackrabbit
OpenJazz is an engine that can be used to play the commercial Sonic clone Jazz Jackrabbit (the original files are required accordingly). It was ported for AmigaOS 4 back in 2012 already by Roman 'kas1e' Kargin. Since then, OpenJazz has undergone several additions and has been converted to SDL2 though.
However, in the current version by George Sokianos, the bonus stages are switched off as they lead to crashes. A problem that also occurs on other platforms.

Platformer: Hotfixes for "Tiny Pixel Adventure"
Tiny Pixel Adventure (video) is a classic platformer. After the final version was released a good week ago (amiga-news.de reported), the author has now added some bug fixes:
- fix some graphics bug in level 23
- Fixed a general bug in the level code display (it could happen that no level code was displayed if you had collected exactly the number of coins)

Amiga emulator: Amiberry 7.0 released
Amiberry is an Amiga emulator for ARM-based single-chip systems such as the Raspberry Pi, the Odroid XU4 or the Tinkerboard from ASUS, which comes with some newly developed features such as a "WHDLoad-Booter" or support for controller configuration using RetroArch.
After the third release candidate last week, the final version 7.0 was officially released yesterday. It is not recommended for weaker systems, though; a corresponding update of "Amiberry-Lite" will follow shortly.

The "Amiga Games List" maintained by David Brunet since April 1991 is, by his own account, the most comprehensive of its kind on the internet and was expanded yesterday to include 254 new releases and updates from the past year.

ANAIIS ("Another Native Amiga IO Interface Stack") written by Gilles Pelletier is an USB stack which also runs on a 68000 processor. This can be used, for example, to operate the Subway 2021 from Alinea Computer. Changes in version 1.25:

NanoMig: Minimig ported to Tang FPGA developer boards
Till Harbaum has adapted the FPGA Amiga emulation Minimig, specifically MiSTer Minimig AGA, to the FPGA developer boards Tang Nano 20K, Tang Primer 25K and Tang Mega 138K Pro.
Writing to floppy disks is not yet possible. Whether AGA support and an accelerated 68020 emulation will fit into the FPGA chip is still open.

Press release: The new version 3.5.0 contains driver updates for Trio64 (Cybervision), IMSG300 (Visiona) and ET4000 (Merlin/oMNiBus) cards. In addition, there are three new drivers for Vooodoo Banshee, Voodoo 3 and Voodoo 4/5-based graphics cards. This requires a PCI daughterboard with OpenPCI.library, which is not part of the P96 package, but can be downloaded for free.
V3.5.0 also contains the first driver for the framebuffer mode of Indivision ECS V4. This driver requires a processor with MMU and an installed MMU library. Please note that your Indivision ECS V4 requires an updated FPGA core - this can be found in our Wiki and can be installed with the Indivision Configtool. Screen modes with 256 colors, 15/16-bit (Hi-colour) modes with over 65000 colors, as well as screen dragging of two screens are supported. Automatic panning is also supported for oversized screens. Please note that Indivision ECS V4 does not yet have a blitter, and therefore the speed of this driver is still comparatively low.
All changes are summarized in the wiki article about P96.
Unfortunately, we are still having problems with the store system, so we have not even tried to add the new files to the database. Even if it takes a little longer, we will send the new versions by e-mail - not only on request, but also pro-actively to customers who are in the free update phase.

3rd preview video: Hyper Runner - Spring Valley Route
"Hyper Runner" is an announced sci-fi racing game for the Amiga. After our last news item a good two and a half years ago, the game is still in the works and another video has now been published at the title link, showing a first race track, the "Spring Valley Route".

Amiga disks on PC: Copy program G-Copy 0.6pre
Almost three years ago (amiga-news.de reported), developer Arne Urbaniak presented his copy program G-Copy for reading and writing Amiga ADF data on a Windows PC. G-Copy, which is visually similar to the popular X-Copy, supports the drive controllers Greaseweazle by Keir Fraser, ADF-Drive by D. Tonn or DrawBridge (Arduino) by Rob Smith.

SCSI for Raspberry Pi: SCSI2Pi 5 released as a pre-release
A new version of the SCSI2Pi emulation software is available as a pre-release. SCSI2Pi is an alternative to the well-known PiSCSI software for the PiSCSI/RaSCSI board, which brings SCSI technology to the Raspberry Pi. According to developer Uwe Seimet, the software offers optimised device emulation, higher transfer rates and numerous new functions, including tools for the SCSI initiator mode.

GUI for Greaseweazle Tools: FluxMyFluffyFloppy V5.1.1 for Windows
'FrankieTheFluff' has released version 5.1.1 of his graphical user interface FluxMyFluffyFloppy for Greaseweazle Tools V1.21 (see also the video Setting up a Greaseweazle V4). Changes since our last news item:
- Fixes missing prefix in the diskdefs form spec selection
- Requires Greaseweazle 1.21
- Options: former location of "diskdefs.cfg" is now a folder select !

Audio player: UADE-Plugin 0.12.4 for Audacious (Windows, Linux, macOS)
"audacious-uade" is a plugin for the audio player Audacious (Windows, Linux, macOS), which allows the use of the Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator as an input filter. In the new Version 0.12.4, support for Scream Tracker 2 has been added, among other things.

Racing game: Carmageddon 1.02
A reverse engineering project brings the PC classic Carmageddon to the Classic Amiga: the conversion of Arcziii (video) is based on the original engine, was adapted for the 68k architecture and requires the original game data of Carmageddon (amiga-news.de reported).
Version 1.02 offers a 20% improved performance, fixed graphic errors of the workbench after closing and OS3.2 compatible icons.

Dungeon Crawler: Custom maps for "The Shadows of Sergoth"
The dungeon crawler "The Shadows of Sergoth" was released in 2021 (amiga-news.de reported). Now the developer 'quantumcodemonk' has, as he writes, created a few custom maps for the game "just for fun". The aim was to create something "a bit harder... a lot harder" and is asking for feedback in this regard. The original game is required.

Browser extension: AGuide Viewer 0.6
AGuide Viewer is an open source reader for AmigaGuide documents implemented as a browser extension. It works with Firefox and Chromium on all platforms (amiga-news.de berichtete).
As the author explains, version 0.6 adds the feature to render web links in the AmigaGuide magazine WhatIFF and a configurable theme: the page can now be rendered in OS3 style (gray background, beveled 3D-effect buttons) or using the browser's native web page settings.

Christmas game: The Young Icefighter, Level 4
"The Young Icefighter" is a Christmas game for children created with the "Shoot'em Construction Kit", for which the developer's eight-year-old son drew most of the graphics (amiga-news.de reported). Now a bonus level and level 4 have been added.

Hyperion Entertainment: Timothy De Groote new director
After Hyperion Entertainment initially continued to be managed by a court-appointed administrator, the current register entry at the title link now lists Timothy De Groote again as director of the company. Anyway insolvency lawyer Bart De Moor remains responsible for Hyperion as the court-appointed liquidator.

A600GS: Video update from Proteque on the development status
After his video from summer on image and music editing with the Orange Pi-based Amiga clone A600GS from AmigaKit, in which he still had to report on various problems, 'Proteque' has now followed up and taken a look at the current status of the system.
His conclusion: A lot has happened, updates are coming regularly and the A600GS now fulfills what he had previously expected. It would therefore be an inexpensive way to try out AmigaOS or to play a game with a real joystick and a real Amiga keyboard.

Virus Help Team: 30th anniversary
Founded on January 1, 1995 and strengthened within six months by branches in Norway, the Netherlands and Canada, the Virus Help Team has shrunk to just two people today, Jan Andersen and Jan Nielsen, but thirty years later it is still active in helping Amiga users with virus problems and supporting the authors of anti-virus programs.

Video-Tutorial: AMOS program for extracting Hex colour codes
In another video of his tutorial series about AMOS Pro, retro and Amiga fan 'Yawning Angel' explains his self-written program for extracting the hexadecimal colour values of bobs in .abk files and hexadecimal colour codes from .iff files. The source code of the program is available free of charge on his Website.

Bugfix for the MHI driver for MAS-player
Thomas Wenzel wrote: "There was a bug in the MHI driver for the MAS player that caused some of the RS232 handshake lines to become misaligned at startup. This has now been fixed: The driver now leaves the serial interface completely alone.
The error was noticed because there is a project that uses one of the RS232 lines to control an HDMI switch. Unfortunately, the switching status was always overwritten when the driver was started.

Emulated Amiga: Amigakit announces A1200NG, special price for pre-orders
In a press release (PDF), Amigakit announces the "A1200NG", which, like the A600GS available since August, is apparently based on an ARM-based Orange Pi motherboard running a Linux-based Amiga emulator - hardware performance and software setup are therefore exactly the same as its little brother. The highlight of the A1200NG: The "breakout board", into which the Orange Pi is plugged and which extends it with various connections, has the exact dimensions of an Amiga 1200 board and is therefore installed in an original or reproduced A1200 keyboard housing.

Virtual Desktops for Workbench: GoVD 2.0
Krzysztof Donat's program GoVD makes it possible to use the Workbench on up to eight virtual screens on AmigaOS 3.1.4 and 3.2. It is possible to specify which Workbench windows and programs should use which one of the screens.
With version 2.0 released today, the program functions as a commodity. Other new features include keyboard shortcuts for switching desktops and pixel-precise positioning of the window with the virtual desktop buttons.

amiga-news.de wishes you a happy new year
The amiga-news.de team hopes that our readers survived New Year's Eve well and wishes everyone a Happy New Year. For the Amiga, the past 12 months were - again - quite pleasing and we are confident that there will be a lot to report, discuss and try out again in 2025.
2024 was also a good year for amiga-news.de: we published 1400 news items, the editorial team also received an experienced addition with Nico Barbat and the technology department was significantly strengthened with Markus Bonet. Our news service, which is starting its 27th "financial year" today, should therefore also have a few good years ahead of it. The first goal is, of course, to produce a similar number of articles again, but we will also be working more intensively on the underlying technology.
