Picasso96 Developers talk about Voodoo3 Drivers
On the CyberGFX site a press release, and several postings from the P96 mailing list has been published in which the developers of Picasso96, Tobias Abt and Alexander Kneer, voice about the unauthorized Voodoo3 Picasso96 driver from Elbox, and the future of the graphics driver system.

The Picasso96 license allows the development of new and commercial drivers only if one has obtained a license. Besides the shareware fee this represents an important source of income. According to the developers of P96 they received only a hand full of shareware registrations during the past two years, which doesn't warrant intensive P96 development and along with this abdication of free time.

According to the developers of P96 Elbox had got in contact with them in reference to Voodoo3 drivers, and had asked for the developer kit for P96. This request has been replyed to that effect of that this kit is available for a fee. From the point of view of the P96 developers this fee was reasonable. But Elbox stopped communication after this offer and developed the unauthorized Voodoo3 driver. The P96 developers now are still hoping to come to terms with Elbox.

Further development of Picasso96 continues independent from this. At this time it is being worked on implementation of the changes sent in by Thomas Richter. Furthermore other software and hardware drivers are under development on which nothing in detail can be said at this time, cause among other things third parties are involved in this.

The press release deals in more detail with the here in short mentioned items. More information are inside the mailing list postings.
