||PCI busboard: VHDL firmware for Prometheus released under free licence|
Some years ago Michael Böhmer (e3b) did re-implement the firmware of the PCI busboard "Prometheus" in VHDL. Now he has released the source codes of this implementation under a free licence. The documents for the original design already were released in 2012, but were based on an outdated standard of Altera for describing the logic of the PLDs used on the Prometheus.
A bug in the original Prometheus firmware also was fixed: Compared with the commercial version the new VHDL firmware can work with PCI cards which require DMA (like most of the network or USB controller).
Additionally a board design for a Prometheus replica was released which uses a Xilinx XC95144Xl CPLD - on which the available VHDL code now can be used. (cg) (Translation: dr)
