Jérôme 'Glames' Senay's Ask Me Up is a one to five player quiz game for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and Windows featuring 17000 questions in 17 categories. A demo version containing 80 questions is available for free.
From version 3.2.1 on now AskMeUp checks if there are updates and install them.

Gotek firmware: FlashFloppy 0.6.0a
FlashFloppy is an open source firmware alternative for the Gotek disk drive simulation (amiga-news.de reported).
Changes in version 0.6.0a:
- Allow PC Floppy Interface (DSKCHG on pin 34) to be selected via a
jumper at position JC. Default interface (no jumper at JC) remains
Shugart, as compatible with many non-PC systems including Amiga.
WARNING: 1.44MB (HD) disks are not yet supported. Only 720k (DD)
disks will currently work. HD support will arrive shortly
- Kingstener: Support narrower 7x16 OLED font. Allows entire display to be
visible through the 3-digit cutout in the Gotek case. This is a separate
firmware build, update file is in distribution subfolder alt/
- OLED reliability fixes

MorphOS: Word processor Folio 1.0
Folio "is a word processing tool that utilizes web browser technologies to satisy basic word processing needs and to provide a user experience that is similar to long-established programs such as Microsoft WordPad and Apple TextEdit" (amiga-news.de reported).
Full list of changes:
- Added support for Odyssey Web Browser v1.24. Folio no longer requres v1.23 to run.
- Added support for locally installed fonts (including filtering of unsupported ones).
- Added User Interface Settings to enable users to adapt the application look so it can be made to fit seamlessly into anyone's personalized OS environment.
- Added ability to save a 'native' file format, which adds various application-specific properties but remains compliant with the HTML standard, thereby retaining full cross-platform compatibility.
- Added 'focus mode' to hide the application user interface during writing sessions via toolbar or repeatedly pressing F2. (Useful to remove distractions and to increase the visible content in smaller screen resolutions.)
- Added per-document settings.
- Added ability to scale down and up the document content. Note: Zooming in does degrade performance.
- Added ability to alter line heights. (Useful for moving text to the right place on a page.)
- Added ability to alter letter spacing.
- Improved printing & PDF export: Application UI should be hidden while exporting to PDF or printing via Odyssey Web Browser.
- Added HTML and MHT file export options for improved interoperability with all common office suites.
- Added (very) simple RTF file export.
- Added plain text file export.
- Added ability to run Folio from shell.
- Added ability to load native Folio documnents from shell. (folio yourdrive:yourfolder/yourfile.folio)
- Added Ambient Folio file type. (Folio checks for its presence and installs it if needed.)
- Added Ambient Folio document icon. (Folio checks for its presence and installs it if needed.)
- Replaced the program icon.

A600: Vampire HDMI mount/ESC VGA mount
Stefan Egger offers slf-made mounts for the HDMI port of a Vampire 600 and for the VGA port of an Indivision ECS. If you have removed the TV modulator from your Amiga 600, you can set up Egger's mount instead of it - the case has not to be changed. The Vampire version has a HDMI extension and is available for 15 Euro, but only as "limited quantity". The mount for the VGA port is available for 7,50 Euro, but according to Egger "the design has not yet been installed and therefore not tested."
For the VGA mount a STL file is available for free for printing the mount using a 3d printer.

FPGA graphics board: Driver and firmware 1.7 for the VA2000
Lukas 'mntmn' Hartmann has released another update of the firmware and driver for his FPGA-based graphics board VA2000. Additional to some bug fixes, an experimental autoconfig/autoboot function for the SD-card was added. Hartmann did it with a SanDisk SDHC 16 GB. Currently only the first 4GB are accepted as partition and there are crashes on a 68060 - slower processors work fine.
In order to integrate the card, you have to write two files on the card. This is described in autoboot/install.sh in the driver archive.

Music composed with Amiga: Calvin Harris - "I created Disco"
In an interview with musicradar.com, the Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has talked about his start as musician and descibed how he did produce electronic music with the A500 and later with the A1200. His first album, released in 2007, was called I created Disco - which among others got a top ten position in the British album charts - and was completely produced on an Amiga 1200. Quote Harris: "Why not? The Amiga did a great job!".

Reading and writing Amiga disks on PC: ADF-Copy/ADF-Drive
ADF-Copy is an USB adapter which, connected to a ordinary PC disk drive, can read and write Amiga disks - provided that the disks are not copy-protected. The floppy port is connected to a Teensy 3.2 micro controller by using some jumpers controlled by the firmware of the micro controller.
In a previous version of the firmware the disk drive is controlled by a Windows application called "ADF-Copy", which can read or write back ADF-images on disks. Now a firmware update was released which is called "ADF-Drive" which registers to the PC using the Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) and provides a disk drive "DF0". If the PC supports MTP, ADF-files can be created or write back via drag'n drop using the file manager of the operating system or a disk can be formatted. It is still possible to use the Windows application together with the latest version of the firmware.
The electrical diagram for connecting the floppy port to the micro controller, the windows tutorial as well as the firmware including the source code are available on the website of the developer Dominik Tonn. Currently Tonn is working on an implementation of the filesystem, which would make it possible to access single files on the disk.

Jump'n Run: Hermes - Run a la carte (AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS)
Hermes developed by Retroguru is according to its own description "an extraordinary Jump'n' Run game with plenty of bad taste humour" (Youtube trailer).
Frank Wille has ported the game to AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS, Yannick Erb to AROS. A version for Amiga is not planned because according to Wille the engine requires too high resources.
Hermes can be downloaded from the official website for free. If you want to support Retroguru you can purchase a CD for 15 Euro which additional to all ports of the game also includes the soundtrack and has a printed Hermes comic.

Developer tools: vasm 1.8a and vlink 0.16a
Frank Wille has released updates of the portable and retargetable assembler vasm and of its corresponding linker vlink.
Changes in vasm 1.8a:
- Increased number of fast-optimization passes from 50 to 200, as very large sources (> 60000 lines), with lots of branches to optimize, may still have optimization possibilities left after 50 passes.
- Repeat loops with an iterator symbol over an arbitrary sequence of values.
- m68k: New option -sd and directive OPT ON to enable optimizations of absolute references to the small data section into a base register relative addressing mode.
- m68k: New option -opt-jbra and directive OPT OB to convert all absolute jumps to external labels into 32-bit PC-relative branches (68020 and up).
- m68k: OPT O+ in Devpac compatibilty mode does not enable PC-relative optimizations (an explicit OPT A+ is needed).
- m68k: New Apollo Core instructions: PMULA, PMULH, STOREC, UNPACK1632.
- m68k: -m68020up option no longer includes Apollo Core.
- m68k: Devpac OPT Ln (with n=0,1,2,etc. for Atari) is recognized, although it has no effect at the moment.
- m68k: Suppressed index registers ZRn, which are explicitely written in the source, are no longer optimized away.
- PPC: -m option to select the CPU model starts working. By default the instruction set of a 32-bit PPC (G2, G3, G4) with AltiVec is supported.
- x86: Floating point constants (.float, .double) are supported.
- mot-syntax: Optional offset and length arguments for INCBIN (contributed by Andreas Larsson).
- std-syntax: New directives for gas compatibility: .irp and .irpc.
- bin-output: Fixed another sign-problem while padding between sections.
- hunk-output: Print source line for undefined symbols, when generating an executable.
- vobj-output: Ignore all internal/local symbols, except "*tmpNNNNNNNN*", which is required for certain relocations.
Changes in vlink 0.16a:
- New linker script commands: BYTE, SHORT, LONG, QUAD, SQUAD.
- New option -k: keep original section order from the objects.
- Fixed crash with -gc-all and unreferenced symbols.
- Fixed crash with unresolved weak symbols.
- (ados/ehf) _INIT/_EXIT functions with register arguments (prefixed by '@' instead of '_' for SAS/C-compatibility) are also detected, and their pointers inserted into the proper con-/destructor tables.
- (elf) Provide __CTOR_LIST_END, __DTOR_LIST_END.

Hyperion has AmigaOS 3.1 updates removed from the web (Update)
Matthias 'DJBase' Münch was hosting the various updates for AmigaOS 3.1, 3.5 and 3.9 on his site os.amigaworld.de after H&P switched off the official support websites for these products after their withdrawal from the Amiga market. Münch now announces (German) on his website that after twelve years, he has been contacted by Hyperion and was asked to remove some of the downloads, since they contained code to which Hyperion holds some rights. In response, Münch decided to take the entire site offline.
Note from staff: In the 2009 settlement agreement with Amiga, Inc., Hyperion was granted a rather broad license for AmigaOS 3.1 that also gives the Belgium company the option to enforce the IP rights in question. The fact that it took them eight years to actually disable Münch's rather well known download site suggests a connection to the ongoing Trademark wars against Cloanto.

In the meantime, Costel Mincea from Hyperion replied to (requires registration) Münch's statement explaining that Hyperion only asked for the removal of four AmigaOS 3.1 updates, taking the entire site including all BoingBags offline was Münch's personal decision. The archives Mincea lists are small Beta releases published by Amiga Technologies in the mid-nineties:

Amiga-MOD tracker in Javascript: Bassoontracker 0.1.22
Bassoontracker is a classic 4-Channel-MOD tracker written in Javascript which runs in a web browser - there you can load, edit and save MOD-files. The tracker can be directly used on stef.be/bassoontracker/. The source code is available on Github.

MorphOS: Word processing software Folio (beta version)
"Folio is a technical proof of concept that leverages the sophisticated Webkit layout engine included in the Odyssey Web Browser to provide a modern word processing tool that fulfills most common needs. Its current feature set and capabilities are comparable to those found in Microsoft WordPad and Apple TextEdit." Due to a bug of version 1.24 of Odyssey, version 1.23 has to be installed as well and Folio to be opened there. An Internet connection is not required.
Known problems:
- Saving files opens a blank window hiding the editor, which needs to be closed manually.
- File names need to be entered inside the MorphOS file requester every time you save a document regardless of whether you previously entered a file name or not.
- Dragging images around inside the document can duplicate images. For moving around images, it is recommended to cut out images and then paste them after you position the text cursor via mouse or keyboard.
- When you use the "pop up" button in the toolbar to run Folio in its own window, you will still see a tab bar even though it is technically redundant.

RNOAnim 1.2 and RNOInfoScreen 1.4
"RNOAnim is a compact animation player that also has some conversion and editing functions." In version 1.2 of the program which was written with Hollywood "animations get scaled if they don't fit within the screen size" and "support for transparency in GIF anims" was added.
"RNOInfoScreen works as a front-end to various music and media players by displaying the "now playing" information with cover art images, and by providing basic media control options for the user." In version 1.4 among others more options for background images were added and the volume goes quicker up and down on MorphOS when a shift key is pressed.

AmigaOS 4: File manager Dir Me Up 3.8.1
Jérôme 'Glames' Senays' commercial file manager "Dir Me Up" (video) "is a program to explore and manipulate files, links and drawers of your Amiga." Changes in version 3.8.1:
- Software / "Upgrade" item added in the "Project" menu to download the latest version available.
- GUI / You can now choose to not display the buttons panel.
- GUI - Buttons Panel / You can now choose buttons you want to display and their sizes.
- GUI / You can now choose to not display the preview panel.
- GUI / Spacing between different parts increased .
- Drawer browsing / If several drawers are selected, the first one is scanned in the current window and the next ones in other "Dir Me Up" windows.
- Drawer browsing / If the [Ctrl] key is pressed while browsing, the selected drawer is opened in another "Dir Me Up" window.
- Drawer creation / The drawer(s) created are now automatically selected.
- Bookmarks / Notification modified if the volume panel is not display.
- Browsing / If a "path" button that no longer existed was clicked, an error window was displayed over and over: fixed.
- Browsing / If a Bookmark that no longer existed was clicked, an error window was displayed over and over: fixed.
- Browsing / Update was always done on the last level of the path, even if an intermediate "path" button was clicked: fixed.

- "Workbench" view / If the selected bookmark had a "multi-levels" path , the path buttons were not all drawn: fixed.

- Internal viewer / After deleting an image, the displayed image rank was no longer the correct one: fixed.

Hardware: Vampire V4 announced inclusive A1200 and standalone version
In a press release and in the forum of the project the Apollo team has announced the next generation of the FPGA-based accelerator board, which for the first time will be also offered as "standalone" version.
Three different versions are offered:
- The Vampire V4 Standalone System
- The Vampire V4 for Amiga Classic compatible with Amiga 1000/500/2000/CDTV and with Amiga 600 with kippa’s adapter (if produced)
- The Vampire V4 for Amiga 1200
Die V4 is equipped with the well-known 68080 processor core as well as provides the AGA-compatible "SAGA" chipset.

Stereo headphone amplifier for Amiga computers: KA71
The sound output of the Amiga is given out on four channels: two on the left stereo channel and two on the right one - this is not an advantage if you use headphones. rastport.com offers a solution for this problem: An amplifier for the Amiga called KA71. "KA71 can mix stereo channels at a level adjustable with a knob, from full separation to mono output." Still it is not clear when the device will be available at the distributor of rastport.com.

Speech synthesizer: espeak 1.1
The Amiga port of the speech synthesizer espeak wriiten by Jonathan Duddington currently is available on Aminet. Espeak speaks 75 languages in 19 different versions. The Amiga version is identical to the original Linux version. The audio.device is used for the speech output, but it is also possible giving it out into a file. In this way it is possible first to create a wave-file on slower systems and then to play it. The translator.library is not required.

Workbench distribution: AmiKit X 10.2
Version 10.2 of the Workbench distribution AmiKit, meant for emulators, now also is available for Linux again. The game MiniSlug was added, other components have been updated. Additionally among others the problems with SSL-certificates, misplaced Favourite icons in FullHD resolution and of launching of Steam, Libre Office and VLC were fixed.

Podcast: AmiCast 24 - Interview with Jon Lennart Aasenden (Amibian.js)
In the 24th issue of his English-language podcast, Krzysztof Radzikowski has talked to Jon Lennart Aasenden. One of his software projects is the Smart Mobile Studio, a development environment, in which programs can be written in Smart Pascal and then compiled as object-orientated JavaScript. As an example project Amibian.js is included.
While Gunnar Kristjansson's Amibian is an image for the Raspberry Pi starting right into Amiga emulation (amiga-news.de reported), Amibian.js is an AmigaOS emulation in JavaScript, which similar to FriendUP runs in a browser (Amiga Cloud Desktop).
