Emulator: WinUAE 3.5.0
Version 3.5.0 of the Amiga emulator WinUAE has been released. In addition to the preview, the emulation of the extensions Comspec SA-1000, California Access Malibu, DKB RapidFire and M-Tec AT-500 Megabody have been added. The Masoboshi MasterCard has been completely implemented (including DMA).

Free Pascal: Online compiler
Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow has established a website, which can write and compile Free-Pascal source code of all Amiga systems. This site is available in two different versions:
- This version includes an editor written in Javascript featuring syntax highlighting and other functions for modern browsers like e.g. OWB under MorphOS.
- That second version is based on simple HTML and should also work in older browsers like IBrowse.

Retro 7-bit: CD³² extension announced
After Retro 7-bit has announced the accelerator board Wicher 500i for Amiga 500/500+ computer systems (amiga-news.de reported), on the website of the Polish company now an extension for the Amiga CD³² is announced. The "CD³² Expansion Slot" provides two 182 pin slots for extension cards as well as a VGA port for the 15-KHz-RGB-signal of the Amiga. Future application examples could be a memory extension or a MPEG decoder.

AROS: AEROS 5.0 beta 1 for Orange Pi Lite available to registered customers
Registered customers of Pascal Papara's Linux-hosted AROS distribution AEROS can download a trial version for the Orange Pi Lite (screenshot). The version AEROS 5.0 beta 1 offers an updated Linux base, new AROS files based on the indieGO!-version and optionally an automatic participation in the common Verium-Miningpool.
Since the Orange Pi Lite is equipped with only 512 MB RAM, a fast MicroSD card as swap partition as well as the browser NetSurf are recommended. If you want to visit more complex websites, you may use Midori.

Lumberjack game: Lumberjack Reloaded
In "Lumberjack Reloaded" you become a lumberjack who has to avoid falling branches. The game is available on CD, which will be delivered in a box together with a colourful manual, and, if desired, additionally on diks. Otherwise a disk sticker is included. 512 KB RAM are required. The delivery will start next month, then a download version also will be available.

Hollywood application: "Hurra, ich wachse!" 2.2
The application "Hurra, ich wachse!" ("Hurray, I am growing") written by Ulrich Beckers is meant for parents who want to document how fast their children grow. Version 2.2 of the program also is available for AmigaOS 3. Additionally a bug on saving data was fixed.

AmigaOS 4: Commercial calendar software AOrganiser gets Sync function
According to Andy Broad he has invested more than 300 hours updating the calendar software AOrganiser. Now it is possible to "sync your AmigaOS diary with your phone or other mobile device via Google Calendar". Additionally "a suite of python and ARexx scripts offer import and export of iCal / VCal formatted events and invitations as well as syncing to a remote server via CalDAV."
Currently only Google is supported as CalDAV server, but other servers will be added if there is a demand. AOrganiser is available for 11 British pound (about 11,40 Euro) on A-EON's Amistore.
Most important changes in AOrganiser 2.1:
- The Event window features an extended range of options for entering information, the single line title and notes section have been expanded to:
- Title
- Multiline Notes
- Organiser
- Location
- Alarms can now be set to trigger at arbitrary offsets from the start or end of the event, notifying via RingHIO, requester, sound or executing a command.
- Custom gadget to display the events in the main diary window, with cutomisable colours and fonts.
- Optimisations to the time entry gadget.
- Extended features in the built in calendar gadget, with a new choose date requester utilising the same gadget as you see in the main window.
- Fully customisable pen colours, allowing a diary look that suits your own preferences.
- Keyboard navigation in the diary window using arrow keys.
- The ability to select days or events and operate on them via arexx scripts.
- Massively extended ARexx interface.
- Extended but fully backwards compatible IFF diary file format.
- Extensive time zone support for event that take place in different parts of the country (or world) to the diary's primary locale.
- ICal and vCal import / export options.
- The ability to sync with Google Calendar via the CalDAV API.
- Advanced searching using AmigaDOS patterns.

Games competition: Winners of AmiGameJam 2016 announced
From six games which were sent in to the games competition "AmiGameJam 2016" the winners have been choosen with an online voting.
In the category "Next Generation" the jump'n'run game "Santa Run" has won for AmigaOS 4, in the "Classic"-category the arcade game "Bridge Strike". In the last category the shoot-'em-up "The Last Starfighter" got second and the platform game "Max Knight" third place.

AROS: Distribution Icaros Desktop 2.2
On Christmas a preview version of Icaros Desktop 2.2 was released. Now the official main version 2.2 is available which provides "little and bigger enhancements like a complete new look, which involves both Magellan toolbars and decoration theme, and a completely new feature called HostBridge, which allows people running Icaros Desktop in a hosted environment to launch host applications along with (or instead of) AROS ones."

Emulator: FS-UAE 2.9.6dev (beta)
Frode Solheim has released a new developer version 2.9.6 of the emulator FS-UAE providing the following changes:
Changes in FS-UAE 2.9.6dev:
- Changed default fade in/out duration, only fade in fullscreen
- FS-UAE default is now to show a 692×540 image, not stretched to fill screen
- Use scale = legacy to revert to old default behavior (can put in Host.fs-uae or use FS-UAE Launcher set set globally)
- New option scale (choose between full, integer, legacy and no scaling)
- New option stretch (replaces keep_aspect, though it still works)
- F11 is now a dedicated toggle auto zoom function, Alt/Cmd+Z cycles through zoom modes as before
- Render a frame around the view when not stretched (frame = 0 to disable)
- Cartridge freeze shortcut is now Alt/Cmd+C
- Alt/Cmd+A now toggles stretch mode (aspect correction)
- Imported updated translations from crowdin.com
In short, the default scaling/cropping behaviour has changed (though you may not see the change if you have specified certain scaling options). Also, the FS-UAE menu itself is being changed so it will work better on non-16:9 displays (not complete yet).
Changes in FS-UAE Launcher 2.9.6dev:
- Imported updated translations from crowdin.com
- Moved additional game databases to a separate settings page
Changes in FS-UAE Arcade 2.9.6dev:
- FS-UAE Arcade now defaults to fullscreen
- Run FS-UAE with window_border = 0 to reduce flickering on launch

Gotek/HxC: Adapter for using a floppy emulator as external drive
If you want to use a floppy emulator just like Gotek or HxC as external drive ;- thus avoiding changes on the Amiga case;- you need a corresponding adapter. The Polish developers of Sakura IT has made available documents for constructing such an adapter at Github. The adapter is used in the external disk drives of the developers.
In a Youtube video an user has recorded, how such an adapter could look like - including a self-made 23-Pin-Sub-D plug.

Audio player: AmigaAMP 3.22 (AmigaOS 3/4)
The latest version of Thomas Wenzel's audio player AmigaAMP provides some minor improvements:
- Added URLIdentifier and Description to Application info
- Show requester when ReAction classes can't be opened
- Fixed broken plugin menu in ReAction mode after rescanning
- Added support for multimedia keys
- Updated spanish catalog
- Adapted code for AmigaOS 4.1 FE SDK 53.30
- Added full path to current file to streaminfo/trackinfo structure so that plugins can make use of it
- Fixed greyed out menus for info and playlist
- Fixed bug when loading skins with missing equalizer and playlist bitmaps
- Replaced connection popup window with info in title bar (reaction) or info line (skin mode)

Emulator: Preview to WinUAE 3.5.0
As usual the developers of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE present a short preview to the changes of the next version. WinUAE 3.5.0 is supposed to be released in the middle of June and will provide the following improvements:
New features:
- Softfloat FPU emulation mode. Bit perfect FPU emulation (except transcendental functions), including full arithmetic exception support. (Co-operation with Previous emulator author)
- Lightpen emulation absolute coordinate HID (USB light guns) and touch screen device support.
- American Laser Games second player and Actionware dual light gun adapter emulation.
- Real harddrive mount lock option. Enables full exclusive access even if drive has Windows mounted FAT partition(s).
- winlaunch.lib is now built-in feature and is also 64-bit compatible.
- Show [Paused] in windowed mode title bar when in pause mode.
- If statefile is loaded with one or more floppy images that can’t be opened: keep fake disk in drive (like previously) and ask for new disk path when missing disk is accessed for the first time.
New emulated features of the chipset:
- AGA FMODE>0 unaligned bitplane and sprite pointer behavior is now accurate.
- BPLCON4 XOR mask special case in HAM6/8 or EHB modes.
- Loading blitter B-DAT manually when B-shift was nonzero.
- Lightpen hardware is now cycle-exactly emulated.
- Sprite special case when DMA mode sprite’s start X-coordinate is less than sprite’s DMA slot position.
- Audio interrupts are delayed by 2 cycles.
Improvements of existing features:
- 68020+ T0 trace mode is now fully emulated.
- 68020 cycle exact mode adjustments.
- Memory cycle exact mode mode accuracy improved
- Implemented previously unimplemented bsdsocket.library emulation sendmsg() and recvmsg().
- Recursive mode ROM scanner now skips directories starting with dot.
- MMU emulation can be now switched on/off on the fly.
- Release all currently pressed keys when emulation pauses.
- Added memory cycle-exact Quickstart step for A1200 and CD32 configurations. Less CPU heavy than full cycle-exact and usually not much more worse (or better). At least not until 68020 CE gets better.
Fixed bugs:
- FM801 16-bit audio corruption.
- A2090 ST-506 emulation.
- Possible crash when display was very wide with bitplane DMA overrun condition.
- Fixed crash when sound card audio play started and channel mode was mono and “Include CD and FMV audio” was ticked.
- Fixed crash when accessing accelerator board SCSI IO region without any added SCSI device(s).
- Fixed crash if Blizzard accelerator on board memory size was set to zero.
- JIT was not 512k or 1M Chip RAM compatible.
- Manual RAM configuration GUI didn’t accept smaller end address than current board size.
- Manually configured but disabled (size zero) Z2/Z3 banks were added to system.
- Apollo 1240/1260 memory address space fixed
- PC bridgeboard NE2000 boot crash fix.
- Windowed mode mouse does not anymore hit hidden barriers if window is partially outside of desktop or uncaptured if window is on top of task bar.
- If Custom autoconfig board order was enabled, expansion devices custom config setting(s) was not saved correctly.

US trader stopped cooperation with A-EON/Amigakit
A message on the homepage of the webshop of the US trader "Amiga On The Lake" (AOTL), which was opened in September last year, informs, that they will "no longer support A-EON or AmigaKit in any way, shape or form."
This step is not justified by the maintainer of the shop in any way. It is only refered to "experience during the last 8 months in regards to both companies." In many forums it is speculated, that the sudden termination of cooperation is related to the price setting of Amigakit: Actually three days ago before the publication of the message of AOTL, AmigaKit did offer X5000 full systems for the first time - this offer was not gone public by Amigakit itself but was reported by users.
While Amigakit explained in a thread on amiga.org, that they will not comment any discussions with partner in public, at Amitopia some lines from a statement of Trevor Dicksinson were quoted: According to that, all traders - including Amigakit - are delivered by A-EON offering same conditions to all. Amigakit sells the systems for the price which A-EON recommends in adverts since last October for a basic system. Any webshop is free to offer systems to a higher price which are better equipped.

FPGA accelerator board: Vampire available in shops
Since about a year the Vampire accelerator boards have been no longer manually put together which made it more expensible but also enabled mass production. Therefore meanwhile diverse shops can be delivered: Relec (Switzerland) and Amigakit (Great Britain) offers the accelerator board - although AmigaKit has announced that the "initial batch quickly sold out within a few hours."

Beat'em Up: Else we get mad! (playable preview)
"Else we get mad" (video) is a Beat'em Up developed by Amiga Wave (e.g. Retro Wars) which is an homage to the actors Bud Spencer and Terence Hill.
Else we get Mad! runs on each Amiga with 512 KB memory, a single and two player mode is offered. Recently a playable preview was released which shows a complete level.

Graphics ripping: Maptapper 0.8.4
Maptapper is a Windows application "used to rip graphics and maps from Amiga games". WinUAE saves a so called "save state" of a game, which Maptapper can browse. There is a detailed online and video tutorial on the website of the developers which explains the usage of the program.

AmigaOS 4: File manager Dir Me Up 3.4.0
Jérôme 'Glames' Senays' commercial file manager "Dir Me Up" (video) among others offers browsing history and preview images or thumbnails. Version 3.4.0 provides a lot of improvements:
- Arexx, Shell or Python scripts run with a simple double-click (no parameter used). If you want to use files or drawers as a parameter, use the "Apply a script" button.
- Rename / Renamed items remain selected. A new positioning is done if needed.
- List view / When calculating the size of a drawer, the size is now also displayed in the list.
- List view / Commented or managed items remain selected after processing.
- Icon view / Preview area updated if the comment or attributes of an element change.
- Bookmarks / Drawer creation is now also possible when the bookmarks are displayed.
- About / Information added about the Amiga used (processor, installed memory, ...).
- Preview / When one or more drawers are selected, the preview image is a drawer (generic image before).
- "Error" or "Question" windows / Image added to show the type of request.
- Copy - Move / Copied or moved items are selected after processing.
- Location / If the last location visited was no longer accessible, an information message appeared many times: fixed.
AmigaOS 4.1 FE specific:
- "Location" menu - Bookmarks / "Create link" and "Create text file" options enabled, even when the list of bookmarks is displayed.

AnimWebConverter 2.75
AnimWebConverter is a little tool for AmigaOS 3/4 and MorphOS written with Hollywood, which can convert IFF animations of the Anim or Yafa format into animated GIF and PNG files. Changing the size of the pictures is possible as well. In version 2.75 some bugs have been fixed.

Compiler: vbcc 0.9f, sponsored by Individual Computers
vbcc ist ein C-compiler written by Volker Barthelmann (compiler core) and Frank Wille (Amiga specific adaptions). The compiler supports AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, PowerUp as well as WarpOS. "It supports ISO C according to ISO/IEC 9899:1989 and a subset of the new standard ISO/IEC 9899:1999 (C99)." Frank Wille gave thank to Jens Schönfeld (Individual Computers), who now sponsors the m68k-AmigaOS port of the compiler. He wrote: "This does not only help us to continue supporting and improving this port but it also allows us to relax the terms of use for the Amiga-68k community. Everyone may now freely use vbcc to develop 68k-AmigaOS code for commercial as well as non-commercial usage."

Hollywood plugin: GL Galore 1.1
Press release: Airsoft Softwair is proud to present GL Galore 1.1, the ultimate OpenGL® scripting solution for Hollywood! This is a major update which introduces Unicode support (requires at least Hollywood 7), support for the Raspberry Pi (needs at least a Raspberry Pi 2), and support for 64-bit architectures on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. GL Galore is a plugin for Hollywood that allows you to access the OpenGL 1.1 command set directly from Hollywood. This leads to a huge performance boost over the classic Hollywood graphics API which is mostly implemented in software for maximum portability and compatibility. Especially systems with slower CPUs will benefit greatly from hardware-accelerated drawing offered by OpenGL.
OpenGL is a portable software interface to graphics hardware. It is available for almost every platform in a variety of flavours. On AmigaOS and compatibles, OpenGL is available as MiniGL on AmigaOS 4, TinyGL on MorphOS, StormMesa on AmigaOS 3, and Mesa 3D on AROS. Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux systems are usually shipped with an OpenGL driver already installed.
GL Galore offers wrapper functions for most commands of the OpenGL 1.1 API including many GLU functions. Additionally, GL Galore also offers bridging functions that allow you to convert Hollywood brushes into OpenGL textures and vice versa. Furthermore, when GL Galore is activated, Hollywood's hardware brushes and hardware double-buffers are mapped directly to OpenGL so that you can even benefit from hardware accelerated drawing and transformation without writing a single line of GL code. Whenever GL Galore is activated, all graphics output will automatically be routed through OpenGL.
GL Galore can also be useful for rapidly prototyping software in OpenGL. People who used to program OpenGL using C will greatly appreciate Hollywood's convenient multimedia API which offers functions for almost all common tasks. For example, by using GL Galore to write OpenGL programs you can avoid all the hassle of managing a GL window using one of the many different toolkits out there. Also, jobs like image loading, sound or video playback, font handling and image manipulation will become ridiculously easy thanks to Hollywood's powerful command set which covers over 700 functions. And of course, there aren't 14 different versions of commands like glColor, but just one version because sometimes less is more.

Workbench distribution: AmiKit X
The Workbench distribution AmiKit, which is meant for emulators, now is available as version 10 ("X") for the notebook "A.L.I.C.E." (A-EON Technology) which was announced two years ago and introduced in a preview video last year but still is not available.

AmigaOS 4: File manager Dir Me Up 3.3.0
Jérôme 'Glames' Senays' commercial file manager "Dir Me Up" (video) among others offers browsing history and preview images or thumbnails. Version 3.3.0 provides a lot of improvements:
- Last visited location saved to automatically load it the next run
- Soft or hard links creation ("refresh volumes" button used, [Amiga]+[K])
- The list of volumes and the current location are refreshed when uniconifying Dir Me Up
- Bookmarks / When a bookmark is added, a notification is now displayed rather than a window (except for the first one)
- Bookmarks / The "remove" button is no longer displayed when the list is empty
- Filter / If only one item results from the filter, it is automatically selected (and previewed if necessary)
- Filter / If the filter did not produce any results and the "Home" or "End" keys were pressed, a run-time error occurred: fixed
- Link preview / the type (soft or hard) is now displayed
- Soft link to a drawer did not work: fixed
- Hard link did not work: fixed
- Location / Italian translation fixed
The following new features require AmigaOS 4.1 FE:
- "Location" menu:
- "Remove bookmark" option has been added
- "Create link" option added
- "Create Text File" option added to create a text file in the current location
- "Add to bookmarks" and "Create drawer(s)" options inverted
- "File" menu:
- "File/Send to" sub menu:
- "Editor" option added: opens the selected file(s) under the defined editor
- "Multiview" option added: opens the selected file(s) under Multiview
- "E-mail" option added: opens your e-mail client (YAM or SimpleMail) and creates a message with the selected file(s) as an attachment
- Bookmarks / When adding a favorite via the keyboard shortcut ([Amiga]+[B]), the action was done twice and generated an information message: fixed

Descent: Freespace as download / Update for AmigaOS 4.1
Press release: Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to announce the immediate availability of the space-combat simulation Descent: Freespace (also known as "Descent: Freespace - The Great War", "Conflict: Freespace - The Great War", "Freespace - The Great War") for AmigaOS 68k/WarpOS and AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition from the direct downloads section of our website.
Customers can now choose between two formats of this amazing game:
- a purely digital version at a price of only EUR 14.95 incl. VAT (may very depending on your local taxes) for download in our restricted download area,
- or buy a boxed version (boxed version only includes AmigaOS 68k/WarpOS version, the AmigaOS 4.1 version is available for download after registration on our website) at their preferred Amiga dealer.
The downloadable content consists of an image of the original CD for AmigaOS 68k/WarpOS and an archived game drawer for AmigaOS 4.1 including all languages and manual.
Purchasers get a serial number inside their box or by email to register their purchase at our website in order to get access to our restricted download area for the game archive, the original ISO image as well as potential future updates. For a first look, free demo versions are available from the public download area.
The updated version for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition includes among others:
- compatibility with Southern Islands based Radeon cards
- uses MiniGL texture compression if available
- tons of game bugfixes including a fully playable tutorial

Hyperion attacking Cloanto's Amiga trademarks on a broad front (update 2)
It looks as if Cloanto's registration of the 'Amiga' mark filed in January in the USA will be contested by Hyperion: After the Belgium based company's attempts to register its own trademarks 'AmigaOS' and 'AmigaOne' failed, Hyperion now filed a request for extension of time to file opposition against Cloanto's mark. This is usually the initial step when trying to file opposition, so the United States Patent and Trademark Office is now listing Hyperion as a potential opposer.
Hyperion's application for registration of the trademarks 'AmigaOne' and 'AmigaOS' was primarily rejected due to 'likelihood of confusion' with Cloanto's recently registered Amiga trademark. It's possible that Hyperion is going to turn that argument around by trying to declare Cloanto's trademark illegitimate for being too similar to Hyperion's marks 'AmigaOne' and 'AmigaOS' - which are not registered but have been commercially used for years.

Yesterday, Hyperion went one step further: The EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) received an application for registration of the 'Amiga Forever' mark - not from Cloanto though, who's been using that mark in commerce for two decades, but from Monard Law, the law firm Ben Hermans works for. Hermans had created an account on amiga-news.de just recently, to point out (German) that use in commerce does not neccessarily equal ownership of the mark in all areas of this world.

Apparently Hyperion is also trying to attack Cloantos 'Workbench' mark: The Italian company had registered said mark - the US version of which they own since 2011 - with the EUIPO earlier this year. Just a few days ago, Hyperion - or rather, Ben Hermans employer Monard Law - has applied for the very same 'Workbench' trademark. (cg) (Translation: dr)
