New York Post illustrates Citibank accounting error with Amiga 2000
The New York Post illustrated the fact that Citibank recently made a false entry of 81 trillion US dollars with the photo of an Amiga 2000 with a 1084S monitor - presumably not coincidentally alluding to inadequate control software.
User comments on Reddit at the title link suggest therefore that the bank should switch to more modern computer equipment - such as a CD³². (snx)

A600GS: Software update 46.1.1015
A further software update has been released for AmigaKit's A600GS emulator platform, which is available for download to registered AmiSphere customers and includes the following changes:
A600GS
- Add Italian language translation thanks to Samir Hawamdeh
- Add test for RDB based HDFs, when RDB found omit altered options to allow correct handling by AmiBerry
- Suppress editing of DEVICE VOLUME and BOOTPRI for RDB based HDFs as these are all in the control of the RDB
- Add option to limit Z3 memory space used to 1Gb, this should allow RTG and Z3 memory to be used on OS variants that inadvertently impose this limit.
YAM
YAM v2.10 has been rebuilt with important bug fixes implemented. A new YAM support page has been added to the Wiki for A600GS / A1200NG users.
- Regenerate the flex generated C files from HTML2Mail.l and ParseMail.l with flex version 4.6 (run on the A600gs itself 🙂 ) as the OS4 version used for cross compiling was just slightly too old and caused occasional crashes.
- Fix bug in RecipientString GoActive method, custom MUI class that could set the same input handler on the window more than once and cause lock-ups due to queueing a node twice.
- Fix equivalent issue in GoInactive method
The last two fix an issue with the Forward window locking up and also the Edit draft window in some circumstances
AmiBerry
Minor refactor of Z3mem options parsing to allow setting up of multiple Z3 memory "cards" , the previous parser would overwrite the same memory bank with the subsequant options causing some quirky side effects! The end result of this is to allow combinations of memory like 512 + 256 (for 768 total.) (cg)

Real-time strategy: First early demo version of "King Arthur's Campaign"
After its train simulator "Trans-Pennine Express" (amiga-news.de reported), 'lifeschool' has started a new project: a real-time strategy game with some "Defender of the Crown" influences. The playing field in "King Arthur's Campaign" can be seen from a bird's eye view, the units are freely movable. The game is set in Roman times.
Basically, the author is interested in the use of arrays in this game: by copying all X and Y coordinates of all units into an array each turn, he wants to be able to quickly check whether units have met. He has now released a first early demo version 0.3 as a hard disc image. (dr)

8-/16-Bit emulator for macOS: Clock Signal v2025-02-26
Thomas Harte's Clock Signal is an emulator for various 8- and 16-bit platforms aiming to be invisible to the user. The idea is to simply start the source medium without configuring the emulator oneself. Clock Signal is available for Mac OS and Unix-compatible systems. Amiga emulation is included as well. Changes:
- adds nascent Commodore 16/Plus 4 emulation, a work-in-progress;
- fixes a potential crash at startup for the MSX 2;
- reduces potential memory leaks for any machine that uses disks;
- improves the Mac UI with: a modern icon, improved menu wording and closer-to-QuickTime behaviour for showing the in-window machine controls; and
- experimentally, primarily for the ZX Spectrum and on macOS only, attempts automatically to relaunch media that has been changed by an external program (e.g. if you reassemble software you are developing).

Frode Solheim is continuing to develop FS-UAE
The Amiga emulator FS-UAE and its associated launcher is a platform-independent version of UAE for Windows, Mac OS X and numerous Linux and BSD variants. The last version of FS-UAE & Launcher, version 3.1.66, was released on 3 January 2022. Now Frode Solheim, the main developer of FS-UAE, has posted a detailed update posted on the English Amiga Board. He admits that he has been overworking himself over the last few years, but assures everyone that he is healthy and will not simply give up on the project without ensuring an orderly handover.
Recently, he has taken the first steps to modernise FS-UAE and OpenRetro:
- Distro-specific builds for current distributions have been created.
- The website fs-uae.net has been migrated to a new host server and the underlying software has been updated.
An upgrade for openretro.org is still pending, whereby old Python 2 code has to be ported to Python 3. He also plans to support newer WHDLoad versions and take a look at the current development of WinUAE 6 to integrate possible improvements into FS-UAE. Despite challenges, he remains motivated and is open to further collaborators, even though the organisational effort for community-driven development should not be underestimated. (nba)

Classic remake "X-Out: Resurfaced" has been published
The Amiga classic X-Out has been relaunched as announced under the name "X-Out: Resurfaced". The remake of the horizontally scrolling shoot ‘em up was published on 20 February 2025 for Xbox, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. In addition to the digital version, there are also physical special editions for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, which are available exclusively from the developer ININ Games. The gaudy remake offers revised graphics, a remixed soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck and additional features such as a two-player co-op mode.
The original X-Out game was released by Rainbow Arts in 1990 for the Amiga. It is considered one of the most outstanding horizontally scrolling shoot ‘em ups of its time. Particularly ground-breaking was the shop system, which allowed players to put together their own individually equipped submarine with different weapons and drones before each level. The dark underwater atmosphere, the impressive pixel graphics and the captivating soundtrack by Chris Huelsbeck made X-Out an unforgettable classic of the Amiga era. (nba)

AmigaOS 4: The network printer tool Airprint
After Arild 'mcleppa' Aarbakk had already written a scanner software for AmigaOS 4 with AirScan, he has also been working on a printer tool for AmigaOS 4 based on the Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) since the end of 2023. At the end of 2010, Apple developed AirPrint, an extension of IPP, which has become standard on many current printers.
The Internet Printing Protocol provides printing services via a network and includes all the necessary mechanisms such as authentication, access authorisations, encryption, etc. This enables printing without a separate printer driver. In principle, printing is therefore possible without a separate printer driver.
I was able to test the first, early versions, which worked right from the start with my Canon G9000. For the first time since I proudly ran my Canon BJC-4200 with the "legendary" CanonDisk printer driver in the 90s, I was able to print from my Amiga, an AmigaOne X5000.
Initially, the range of functions was still somewhat limited, but gradually more options such as trays, colour, duplex and paper type were added.
SSL support was also added with the last update. The installation process of the tool has now been simplified so that the installer not only copies the necessary files, but also opens the settings window during installation:
The Airprint utility programme is located in the Sys:Prefs/Airprint directory after installation. After starting, a printer is searched for using the "+"...
...and in my case successfully found and added:
For me personally, Arild's very useful application is another important building block for a "complete" AmigaOS 4, but also an example of how you can use AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS together on the AmigaOne X5000 and thus achieve synergies. The DHL shipping label for the parcel was purchased under MorphOS with the Wayfarer web browser and the PDF file was saved on a shared drive, from where I was able to print the label with Airprint. Now that's Amiga fun:
In the Airprint utility itself, PDF, JPEG, text and postscript files can be loaded, converted and then sent to the printer. In addition, the programme should support printing from most Amiga applications, such as Notepad, AmiPDF, AmiGS, Odyssee, IBrowse (please refer to the documentation on activating fonts for printing) or Multiview. For this purpose Airprint communicates with the Amiga printer.device, for which DEVS:Printers/Airprint is required. The data is converted into RGB format. They are then sent to DEVS:airprint.device, which then communicates with the Airprint utility.
The source code of Arild's airprint driver is based on the source code of the HP DeskJet CMYK sample driver, while the airprint.device is based on Chris Young's ipp.device (GitHub link). The developer provided many useful hints on how the devices work together, enabling Arild to develop it further.
The paper size is currently limited to A4 and US Letter. Likewise, the resolution is currently only 150 DPI, converted into pixels this corresponds to 1240 x 1754. In practice, as Arild explains to us, this means that the resolution remains the same when a larger image is sent to the printer, so that you do not yet benefit from higher resolutions. This will change in the future.
The checkbox for the alignment is currently inactive. The image is always aligned so that it fits the paper format selected by the user. This will also be changed later.
Airprint always uses the paper installed in the printer. The selection of the "from to" range works - in future it should be possible to select each page to be printed, not just a range. The "Ink levels" tab shows the ink level of the printer:
As the tool is still in the beta phase, the programme versions are currently only available in the corresponding topic on the Amigans website. The current version is 0.36.

Preview from Michal Schulz on PiStorm and Emu68
Michal Schulz and Claude Schwarz have already given us a lot of pleasure with their work on the Motorola68K emulation Emu68 (amiga-news.de reported) and 68K hardware emulation PiStorm32(-lite) (amiga-news.de reported). We asked Michal Schulz to inform us about the current and planned projects:
Framethrower
So far, the RTG emulation has been provided via the HDMI port of the PiStorm and the RGB data supplied by the Denise chip at the RGB port of the Amiga and must be tapped there separately. Since the end of 2023, the two have been working on an extension now called "Framethrower", which also outputs the RGB signal via the PiStorm (camera port) (amiga-news.de reported). As Michal writes, the project is unfortunately not yet finished: "There is a problem with the Tang Nano boards, which Claude is still working on solving. In more detail, this means that due to the design of the Tang Nano 9K, a lot of noise is introduced into the MIPI signal. This leads to either distortions in the transmitted image or the entire synchronisation is lost."
Emu68
For the Motorola68K emulation software Emu68, the new version 1.1 is to be released this year, which will bring some improvements in addition to typical corrections and bug fixes: "For example, cache blocks that are actually removed by the CPU cache flush will be reused. Instead, they will be "recycled" to reduce the compilation time. As a result, macOS, for example, will run much faster under Shapeshifter, and booting the Amiga will also take less time." The first tests have already been carried out and are very promising.
Furthermore, the work on the WiFi driver for Emu68 will be continued (amiga-news.de reported) and, if all goes well, the Ethernet driver for the Pi4/CM4 will be started. If there is enough time, the next project will be USB.
PiStorm16
The first version of the accelerator card for the Amiga 600 (or CM4) (amiga-news.de reported) has been produced in its final version in a quantity of 25 units and will soon be sent to the first users. Shortly afterwards, the project will be released as open source so that it can be produced and sold in larger quantities by various companies and hobbyists.
PiStorm16 is similar to PiStorm32: it uses the same FPGA, the firmware is embedded in Emu68 and is loaded to the PiStorm at startup, so features like the "stealth" mode are possible: by pressing and holding CTRL and the Amiga keys for a few seconds, the Amiga is started in basic mode, without extension.
Other models from the PiStorm16 family, for example for Pi3/Pi4 or for the A500, A2000 etc., will follow.
Future plans
Michal wrote: "We are looking at ways to make hardware that is unsuitable for the PiStorm in the Amiga usable in some form.
In the long term (i.e. not this year), a project is to be developed in which the Amiga chipset is implemented on an FPGA module, for example, and communicates with the processor via a PCIe interface. Yes, PCIe has disadvantages that make it almost unusable for a "classic" PiStorm. But in a scenario where PiStorm is not an interface but an Amiga chipset, the performance might be sufficient. Our work in this direction is running on several levels:
PocketStorm
As a first step, Claude has developed a motherboard for the Pi3/Pi4 that integrates the Amiga chipset (MiniMig) and the PiStorm interface in the Tang Nano 20K. With the help of Emu68, a complete (albeit emulated) Amiga is created.
EFI integration
At the same time, I am working on a start programme for EFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface), which will be integrated into Emu68. This would allow Emu68 to be used in some form on EFI-compatible systems.
FPGA + PCIe
In a further step (if we succeed) the Amiga chipset will be implemented on FPGA with a PCIe interface and run with the EFI version of Emu68.
This work does not mean that we give up the classic Amiga! There are still more than enough tasks for PiStorm and Emu68 in Amiga systems. Nevertheless, we also want to explore new avenues and discover further possibilities." (dr)

Video player: Reducer tool of Amos Anim Player updated (update)
The "Amos Anim Player" from the group "ELECTRIC BLACK SHEEP" is a very simple IFF-ANIM player that runs on any Amiga. It can play compressed IFF-Anim formats synchronised with a separate IFF audio sample (or MOD) (amiga-news.de reported). Reducer is a stand-alone tool that does not require AMOS and reduces the data size. The updated version includes the following changes:
- Previous version of reducer used luma (greyscale) to filter out the difference between frames, 2025 version use chroma (RGB), so it gives a visualy much better result!!!
- Previous version doesn't work above 320x185 resolution, the new limit is 640x512
- does a better job correcting errors in HAM mode
- does a better job detecting/handleing small changes
- does a better job cleaning "residues" caused by slow movements
Update: (18.02.2025, 22:10, dr)
A video tutorial shows how to use it using an example. (dr)

Do it yourself: Adapter board A314 for an internal Raspberry Pi, version 1.2.3
The A314 is an FPGA-based adapter board by Niklas Ekström, with the help of which a Raspberry Pi can be connected to the expansion slot of the Amiga 500 (amiga-news.de reported), which also makes it possible to use its network connection, among other things.
The now released version 1.2.3 contains a workaround for a bug in the compiler vbcc, which caused the a314-cp.device not to work properly on a 68000 processor. (snx)

Copies of really old (Amiga) websites: archive95.net
archive95.net wants to make websites accessible again that are too old even for the Web Archive - the latter only started archiving public sites in 1996. For this purpose, commercial CDs from the years before 1996 are used, on which copies of existing websites were distributed in order to present them to offline customers. Since the "Amiga Plus Extra No. 5/97" is one of the CDs plundered so far, a search for "Amiga" also brings up various interesting hits: fan pages for the A/Box, press releases from Gateway or the old support pages from Newtek. Mouse-controlled zombie shooter: Playable demo of "BDTZ"
BDTZ ("Better Dead Than Zed", video) is a mouse-controlled shooter in which the character has to be controlled from a bird's eye view through a zombie-infested maze of streets. Ammunition is scarce and shots attract more zombies.
The game is still in development, but two playable demos have already been released in the last two weeks. BDTZ should run on any Amiga with at least one megabyte of RAM.

Point'n Click Adventure: Operation Sirius for Amiga OS 1.3
"Operation Sirius" is a point'n click adventure game that the author Achim Kern created in 2012 using Hollywood for various Amiga platforms. However, he never finished or published the original, much older and Kickstart 1.3-compatible version. He has now made the current version of Operation Sirius AmigaOS 1.3 available for download: the game can be played until it arrives on SIRIUS. It takes up three floppy discs and requires 2 megabytes of Chip RAM. (cg)

amigastore.eu offers mechanical replacement keyboards for Amiga 1200
amigastore.eu now offers mechanical keyboards for the A1200, where each key has its own switch. The keyboards are developed by Sergiusz and produced by amigastore.eu, and they come in three variants, which differ in the switches used: linear switches or switches with tactile feedback - the latter are then available with or without an audible "click".
The provider does not provide any information on the keycaps used on the keyboards, which cost around 185 euros including tax. The key arrangement is European - narrow Enter key, additional key between "Y" and "Shift" - but a country-specific layout cannot be selected. The sample images show a British layout with two unlabeled keys. (cg)

PTDQ: Chunky-to-planar video system for AGA Amigas
In chunky mode, all the bits that make up the color of a pixel are stored directly one after the other in memory. In bitplane mode, on the other hand, which is used by the Amiga's framebuffer, several black and white images ("planes", each with one bit per pixel) are stored independently of each other in memory. For 3D graphics, it is better to calculate these using a chunky framebuffer and then convert them into a bitplane framebuffer - the so-called chunky-to-planar conversion.
PTDQ (Pixel Tetrads Dots / Quality) is a video system for AGA Amigas that uses a new method for this conversion. It is based on the same principle as a third method, PTDS (Pixel Tetrads Dots / Speed), which is already three years old. Both restrict the freedom of color selection (PTDS also limits the maximum number of colors from 256 to 81), but are faster than the traditional chunky-to-planar conversion method. With PTDQ, the color selection and quality remain limited, but less so than with PTDS. Details on the Pixel Tetrads Dots method can be found in the documentation contained in the archive. (snx)

FSF to auction Stallman's Hall of Fame medal, Amiga 3000UX and more
The Free Software Foundation (FSF) is celebrating its 40th anniversary and is holding an auction of special memorabilia to mark the occasion. According to a blog post by the FSF, the virtual auction will take place on 23 March 2025. Among the auction items are Richard Stallman's "Internet Hall of Fame" medal, the original Gnu drawing and an Amiga 3000UX, which was used in the FSF office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
About the FSF
The FSF, founded in 1985, is dedicated to promoting computer users' right to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute computer programs. The FSF promotes the development and use of free (as in freedom) software -- particularly the GNU operating system and its GNU/Linux variants -- and free documentation for free software. The FSF also helps to spread awareness of the ethical and political issues of freedom in the use of software, and its websites, located at www.fsf.org and www.gnu.org, are an important source of information about GNU/Linux. Donations to support the FSF's work can be made at donate.fsf.org. Its headquarters are in Boston, MA, USA. (nba)

Amiga emulator for macOS: vAmiga 4.0b1
Originally planned as version 3.3, developer Dirk Hoffmann has released the latest version of his Amiga emulator "vAmiga" for macOS as version 4.0 beta 1, as he has made some fundamental changes: until now, the snapshot format was used as the document format for saving configurations and game states. However, for technical reasons, the snapshot format changed with almost every version, making it unusable as a long-term solution.
To improve user-friendliness, this version replaces the snapshot format with workspaces as a new, more stable format. This new format is not version dependent. Instead, it will be a resource package containing the complete Amiga configuration, installed ROMs, floppy discs and hard disks.
When a user opens a .vamiga file, vAmiga will configure the Amiga based on the config.ini and attach the specified media. The system is always rebooted from scratch. When saving, all current settings and all connected data carriers and hard drives are automatically exported.
Importing and exporting snapshots will still be possible. However, it has to be done manually by two (new) menu items Export Snapshot... and Import Snapshot... from the File menu.
Switching to resource bundles should also solve the snapshot issue with the web version of vAmiga, vAmigaWeb (amiga-news.de reported).
In addition, vAmiga now supports the Quick Look preview feature developed by Apple. All changes in version 4.0 beta 1 at a glance:
Enhancements
- Workspaces
- Quick Look support
- Additional screenshot options
- Improved snapshot compression
Bug fixes
- The audio fast-path was sometimes taken too early
Code quality
- All enums were replaced by strongly typed enum classes
- Safer and more reliable multi-threading
- Prepared the codebase for Swift 6
At least macOS 13.5 is now required. (dr)
