Ethernet driver for Tabor reaching beta status (update)
A-EON has been pointing out for quite a while that the Tabor motherboard is finished and the only thing preventing sales to end users is a port of AmigaOS 4 to the hardware. The biggest roadblocks usually listed are the FPU emulation and a driver for the onboard ethernet chip.
Earlier this month in a posting on amigaworld.net, the distributor adressed this problem more blatantly than usual by pointing out that Costel Mincea from Hyperion Entertainment had been contracted in August 2015 and paid in full in September 2015 to develop and/or finish ethernet drivers for X1000, X5000 and Tabor. Today, the 'Updater' component of A-EON's commercial Enhancer bundle started offering an 'a1222eth.device' to users (Screenshot).
According to our information, this is not the driver Mincea has been working on, A-EON contracted another developer to write a driver instead. This has not been confirmed in public yet, but A-EON betatesters and external developers are also referring to the newly released driver as "A-EON's own driver" in a discussion on os4welt.de (German).

In a posting on os4welt.de (German) Mincea reacts to Amigakit's claims by vehemently denying that he was "ever paid any money" for the ethernet driver: According to him, his payment for the driver was a tabor motherboard and nothing else. Since Mincea was busy with a multitude of other tasks related to the development and distribution of AmigaOS 4, finishing the network driver simply got delayed.
Since ethernet could also be accessed using a USB to ethernet converter, Mincea had to take care of other, more pressing issues first. Payment for the X1000 ethernet driver was also just a X1000 motherboard, that driver hasn't been finished yet for the same reason as the Tabor driver: lack of time and relatively low priority. (cg)

Emulator: A/NES PRO 1.20
A/NES Pro is a NES emulator written in assembler, which requires ECS or AGA, at least a 68020 processor and some megabyte FastRAM. In version 1.20 some minor optimizations of the CPU and PPU emulation are included.

Hyperion sued Amiga Inc., Amino, Itec and Cloanto
In the legal dispute about Amiga trademarks in USA and Europe, on 13th March in USA Hyperion sued all parties which are directly or indirectly involved. A request which still is not publicly available named "Complaint for Declaratory Judgement and Breach of Contract" (etwa: "Feststellungsklage wegen Vertragsbruch") the following companies are listed as defendant:
Currently it is not clear to which this lawsuit relates. According to the title and the time of the filing it can be speculated that Hyperion considers his rights being infringed by the inactivity ofItec/Amiga with regard to the protection of the US trademark.
We are going to publish a summary of the situation.

Text editor: Redit 2.0
Version 2.0 of the AmigaOS-1.2-compatible text editor Redit was released under the title link and on Aminet including the sources.
In this latest version the search dialog now has a result list and you can search and replace on all open documents.
You also now can "Save all" and "Save all + quit" documents and the support for a mouse wheel (NewMouse) was added. All other changes are listed in the Changelog.

Hyperion forcibly deleted from Belgium's company register
Belgium-based companies are required to register in Belgium's official company register (KBO, Kruispuntbank van Ondernemingen)
and to update their entry in that database if the company's address or key personnel changes. To keep the registration active,
a company also has to file annual reports for each fiscal year with the "Central Balance Sheet Office" of the Belgian National Bank.
Hyperion Entertainment - the company responsible for the development of AmigaOS 4, that had temporarily been declared bankrupt
in early 2015 - apparently failed to comply with the latter requirement by not filing any reports for the last three years. As a result, they were forcibly deleted
from the KBO back in October. The change was announced in one of the October issues of
Belgium's legal newsletter and can be verified in the
online database
of the KBO.
Hyperion still exists as an entity, but according to our research
(automated translation of a Dutch
explanation), having no active registration with the KBO severely restricts a company's ability to do business:
- the company is banned from any commercial activities, i.e. selling goods or services
- the company is currently unable to file any claims in a Belgian court: claims from unregistered entities are
not admissible in Belgian courts
Hyperion can have the deletion from the registry annulled by supplying the missing annual reports to the Belgian National Bank.

Tower 57 for Amiga systems released
In summer of 2015 the arcade shooter "Tower 57" was crowdfunded and released in November 2017. Now also the Amiga port has been finished. The versions for AmigaOS 4 (builds for regular systems as well as for the Tabor motherboard), MorphOS and AROS have been developed by Daniel 'Daytona' Müßener and are distributed in a single archive. First videos of the game played on a X5000 and on Tabor can be found on Youtube.
Because the Amiga version could not be separately donated during the Kickstarter campaign, the developer asks all supporters who are interested in the Amiga port to contact him. New customers can purchase the game for about 12 Euro.

Vampire accelerator boards: SAGA driver 1.1
SAGA is "a softcore reimplementation of the Commodore AGA chipset" which provides "some improvements over the original chipset". The corresponding driver now was updated to version 1.1 featuring the following changes:

Video: 81-year-old Amiga artist Samia Halaby
Samia Halaby is a world renowned painter who purchased a Commodore Amiga 1000 in 1985 at the tender age of 50 years old. She taught herself the BASIC and C programming languages to create "kinetic paintings" with the Amiga and has been using the Amiga ever since. Samia has exhibited in prestigious venues such as The Guggenheim Museum, The British Museum, Lincoln Center, The Chicago Institute of Art, Arab World Institute, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Sakakini Art Center, and Ayyam Gallery just to name a few. WHDLoad: New installers until 03.03.2018
Using WHDLoad, you can install games, scene demos and intros from cracking groups to your harddisk that were only working from floppy disks previously. The following installers have been added until March 3rd, 2018:

AROS: Weekly progresses (since 19.02.2018)
Last week's progress in development of the open-source AmigaOS clone AROS:
- Fixed/re-introduced i8259A legacy PIC support (neil)
- Bug fixes that allow ACPI support to be fully disabled when using the 'noacpi' boot option (neil)
- Allow PCI devices to be used again when ACPI is disabled (neil)
- Fixed a memory corruption bug when setting up IRQ routing table information for PCI (neil)
- Added a new boot option, 'noapic' (not to be confused with 'noacpi'), that disables modern APICs in favour of legacy i8259A PICs (e.g. in case APIC support doesn't work well on your PC). 'noapic' and 'noacpi' must be used together to have an effect (neil)
- Fixed a bug in APIC support that led to crashes during boot because the kernel's list of system call handlers was corrupted during IRQ initialisation. This fixes booting with ACPI disabled (neil)

Entwickler-X: Status update to jump'n run "Spencer"
On a1k.org Thomas 'imagodespira' Claus, member of Entwickler-X, has published a status update to the jump'n run game "Spencer" which currently is in development:
Technically and graphically the game has been completed except for little things. The next step will be level testing and some game play adjustments for controlling gaming fun and level of difficulty (spreading items, the setting of the enemies, recreating bad levels). The website now is online, but the trailer and the links to the shops still will have been added.
AmigaOS:
Substantial parts of the engine, Frank has written simultaneously to the PC version. Despite of that it will take a while until the game can be released. As usual, the little OS specific parts take up time: Optimizations of the graphics (Warp3D Nova/ OpenGLES), avoiding problems (shader incompatibilities), joypad and sound.
The developers also have to check if Warp3D Nova + OpenGLES2 officially work with Spencer. Since Frank has been communicating with Hans and Daniel, the driver includes software parts which the official version does not.
Entwickler-X are really pleased to finally have Spencer completed. The first 3D game actually was a challenge and has prepared the ground for future projects.
This video shows the complete level 5 of the game. Other (hopefully also AmigaOS specific) videos will follow!

Amiga in use; former city train simulator in Berlin-Marzahn
The "Berliner Kurier" has reported about a former city train simulator used in GDR times which after a modernization in 1990 was equipped with an Amiga 3000. It was used for displaying control signals in the rail videos. The system still is operational and can be visited after advance reservation. Currently donations are collected for modernizing the computers - the current system is worn and is not running stably.

Jump'n Run: Schütze Mike VS Zombie (demo)
"Schütze Mike VS Zombie" is a jump'n run shooter featuring nine levels in three different worlds created with Backbone. According to the author, the game can be played through within one to four hours. There are four different weapons and the story is told by presenting animated cut scenes. Additionally nine different and animated "kill sequences" show how the hero kills a zombie.
"Schütze Mike VS Zombie" requires an Amiga with 68020 processor and 4 MB RAM. About 90 percent of the development has been completed, among others the soundtrack is still missing. The author would be delighted at some testers. After finishing the development of the game it is supposed to be delivered for free as well as at cost price for a "boxed edition".

FPGA: Apollo-Core-Update Gold 2.7 / SAGA driver 1.0
The Apollo core is a FPGA-reimplementation of Motorolas m68k-series, which also provides a separate graphic output called SAGA. Currently the core is used in the accelerator boards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+). Changes in the latest core "Gold 2.7":
- Fast Hardware FPU (to play some games or Demos)
- AMMX2 (to highly accelerate Video, Jpeg, Workbench, many games)
- High performance Memory controller (Making your Vamp even faster now)
- Workbench Hardware Sprite
- Countless improvements
Currently the update can be installed using a special USB download cable from a Windows or Linux PC. A flash update which can be started from the Amiga will be available within the next days.
A new, AMMX2 optimized version of the P96 driver for SAGA has been released as well. Changes in SAGA driver 1.0:

- Updated SAGA driver installer
- Updated SDNet to 1.0 (Bax)
- Improved VampireGFX performance with AMMX (Bax)

Point'n click adventure: "Retro Wars" available in several languages
"Retro Wars" is point'n click adventure which was written with GRAC and some AMOS code. It has been available in Spanish as free download or in a "boxed edition" for some time.
Meanwhile some other language catalogs have been added: On Aminet a German, English and French version have been uploaded.

Pascal Papara organizes monthly AROS workshops in Duisburg (Germany)
Pascal Papara is going to organize monthly AROS workshops in Duisburg (Germany). He also will present the latest preview of Broadway and AEROS as well as of some other projects and games. On every third Saturday of a month the meeting is planned. The first workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 17th, at 11:00, with follow-ups on April 21st, May 19th.
Tickets can be ordered at Eventbrite. If you do not need a table and do not want to pay for food, you can order a free ticket.
Besides, a bigger, two days event is planned in June.

SID plugin for Hollywood
Press release: Chip attack! Airsoft Softwair, the hardest working men in code business, are proud to present a SID plugin for Hollywood. Once this plugin is installed, Hollywood will "automagically" be able to play SID files.
Additionally, a demo applet which demonstrates the playback of a SID file is included. This applet can also be run using the freely available Hollywood Player so people who don't own the full version of Hollywood can check it out as well.

Virtual Amiga Multimedia Player 1.80
Version 1.80 of the video and sound player V.A.M.P. (Virtual Amiga Multimedia Player), which was developed with Hollywood, has been released for AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS (as well as Windows). In this latest version now the video is paused if the Help, About and Info windows was opened until the window is closed.

SweepOut - Minesweeper clone with online highscores (beta)
In a French forum Julien 'Crisot' Cervellera has announced a new project for 68k Amigas: SweepOut (Youtube video) is clone of the Windows classic Minesweeper which features 100 different series each of them having eight levels. The highscores achieved in a series can be uploaded to a server on Internet for comparing with other players.

Emulator: Preview to WinUAE 3.6.1
As usual Toni Wilen, the developer of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE, presents a short preview to the changes of the next version. WinUAE 3.6.1 is supposed to be released in March and will provide the following improvements:
3.6.0 bugs fixed::
- Crash when running on first Windows 10 release version (build 10240).
- D3D11 mode fullscreen to/from windowed mode change crashes/blank screens.
- D3D11 mode on screen leds on the fly on/off switching.
- D3D11 mode screenshot via GUI button didn’t work.
- Floppy sound type selection was not loaded correctly from config file.
Older bugs fixed::
- Floppy sound used incorrectly empty drive volume level in certain situations.
- PPC emulation interrupt handling rewrite, fixes for example hang/crash problems with NE2000 based network adapters under OS4.
- Not all Advanced chipset options reset when compatible checkbox was ticked.
- Autoscale ignored small vertical display areas in very top of display in some situations.
- Fixed random crash when at least one Input panel custom event string was set, Restart was clicked and then emulation was started again.
- Blizzard SCSI Kit IV (possibly others) SCSI phase error in certain situations.
- Added better validation to clipboard sharing IFF parsing to prevent crashes if data is truncated.
- joyport2 -config entry incorrectly used port 3 slot.
New features:
- OCS/ECS only BPLCON2 with “illegal” PF1 or PF2 value is now accurately emulated in dual playfield mode.
- If selected D3D11 fullscreen refresh rate is “default”: prefer highest supported refresh rate.
- Optional threaded emulated RTG VRAM to host OS surface color space conversion/copy.
- Added “Identity” checkbox to Add harddrive panel. If ticked and ATA identity can be read (Direct IDE connection, compatible USB adapter): real ATA identity data is used in emulated ATA device instead of generic UAE generated and drive appears exactly as it does in real hardware (identical name, geometry etc).
- CHS-only IDE drives can now be mounted in emulation and they appear with real size and geometry when using USB adapters that allow identity read but does not support CHS (like common JMicron based adapters).

Playstaytion Vita: Uae4All2 Vita_mod v1.64
"Uae4All2 Vita_mod" is a port of the Amiga emulator Uae4All for Sony's handheld game console Playstation Vita. The latest version fixes a bug regarding flickering screens if the blitter mode was used (e.g. games like PP Hammer and Spindizzy Worlds).

Playable preview: Shoot-'em-up game RESHOOT R
Some weeks ago, a playable demo version of "RESHOOT R" was released, which is the sequel of Richard Löwenstein's arcade shoot-'em-up game RESHOOT. The CD image can be booted on a CD32 and among others includes the version of the game which the author presented at the Amiga32 in October 2017.

A500 accelerator board: Wicher 500i (Ex) supports SD cards
The accelerator boards of the Wicher 500i series are designed for internal use and now support SD cards, which are connected to the SPI bus of the Wicher boards. If you are going to use the SD card recommended by the developer, you have to remove some resistors in the Amiga.
A new version of the Wicher system software WicherInstall has been released as well: Version 1.6 provides the support of the SD cards.

Javascript: TAWS - The Amiga Workbench Simulation 0.29
TAWS ("The Amiga Workbench Simulation") is a Javascript simulation of the Amiga-Workbench 1.0 - 4.1 for Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Apple-WebKit-Browser (including Odyssey).
Any kind of feedback the author Michael Rupp would very appreciate. He still is searching for support for the French translation. His work can be supported by a donation from inside TAWS.
Changes of version 0.29:
- Complete french localisation - many thanks to Claude 'Amiguy' Malter
- Boot animation in «OS 1.x»- and «OS 2.x» mode which can be halted with «Ctrl-D» to get a command prompt and resumed with «LoadWB». (example).
- OS 4.x window layout: implementation of the dots in the scrollbars. They are hidden if the bar gets too small.
- OS 4.x window layout: requester symbols are now preloaded.
- Skinning system: the files «CycleSel.png» and «CycleDis.png» are now optional. If they are missing, «Cycle.png» is used.
- Kickstart graphic: Version edited to fit OS 4.1 FE Update 1
- ListBox: the needed image files are now preloaded.
- Adjustment for OS 4.1 FE Update 1 on «Workbench / Version, Copyright ...»

Amiga Early Startup Control:
- Implementation of «Boot With No Startup-Sequence». Type «LoadWB» to resume booting.
- Reworked the layout to have it pixel-perfect with all browsers.
- Adjustment for OS 4.1 FE Update 1 to show USB entries at «Expansion Board Diagnostic»

AmigaShell:
- new command «LoadWB», incl. the parameters «-debug», «delay» and «cleanup»
- new command «Wait», incl. the parameters «sec», «secs», «min», «mins» and «until» and the possibility to cancel with «Ctrl-C».
- new commands «NewCLI» and «NewShell» (excl. the parameters «window» and «from» for now)
- «Echo»: implemented support to output the version variables «$kickstart» und «$workbench».

Optimisations for OS 1.x:
- The fuelbar is now drawn after the rest of the window.
- Copying the content a disk by dragging the disk into a window is now prevented (this is only possible from OS 2.0 and above).
- Outputting the correct message when trying to duplicate the RAM-Disk: «This disk cannot be copied»
- Implementation of some special case in OS 1.2: if a file is moved within the RAM-Disk but does already exist in the destination drawer, the existing file is overwritten without notice or anything.

Bugfixes:
- The list of volumes in «Workbench / Open volume» is re-sorted after a volume has been renamed.
- Rename the drawer «System» now works.
- Correction in setting the menubar text when switching the focus from a program window back to the Workbench. Previously, it stayed «Workbench Screen».
- Icon «DiskCopy»: after showing the message the previously active window it now reactivated.
- Requester in «OS 1.x»-mode: size correction when showing the message «Volume X is write protected».
- Requester in «OS 1.x»-mode: clipping functionality of the sizer gadget works again (bug since v0.28).
- OS 1.x window layout: «CLI» and «MergeMem» work again (bug since v0.28).
- The screenbar gadgets were left in selected state if a window was currently selected (bug since v0.28).
- Preferences with system-font «Topaz»: in the Cycle «Language» the entry «русский»» was not using the Topaz font.
- Palette: the background was not fully filled by the background patttern (f.e. when using the AmiKit-presets).
- ListBox in OS4-style: correction of the left and right space between list entries and border.
- Safari and Odyssey Web Browser: correction of the ListBox scrollbar
- Internet Explorer and MS Edge: Das Rename-Fenster wird nun bei der Eingabe von «a» nicht mehr geschlossen, falls der Cursor noch im Textfeld liegt.
- AmigaShell (all browsers except Firefox): correction of the clipping when making the window smaller.
- Amiga Early Startup Control: «Display Options», «Use» and «Display Options» onc more: the selection was lost.
- Amiga Early Startup Control: no more JavaScript error when resizing the browser's window.

AmigaOS 4: Blitzbasic replacement BlitzMax
BlitzMax is one of the replacements of Mark Sibly's BASIC dialect BlitzBasic, which among others allows object oriented programming and adapts the graphic API to OpenGL. The source code of BlitzMax was released in April 2014. Now an Amiga user has ported the compiler to AmigaOS 4.
Graphic support for Max2d with MiniGL as well as Audio driver and networking support are already implemented. Support for joysticks and MaxGUI still is missing.
BlitzMax requires an installed AmigaOS-SDK. The compiler has to be built up from the sources by the users themselves.
The author has pointed out that this is the "first Amgia contribution". He also wrote: "The level of effort was considerable as the back-end of PPC compiler had to be re-coded correctly for System V ABI vs the original Apple OSX ABI. AmigaOS applicable defines where required in Build system and Runtime but seems to be working well. I appreciate all feedback good and bad."

AmigaOS 4: EGL to OpenGL ES 2.0 wrapper (beta 2), testers wanted
Hugues 'HunoPPC' Nouvel is working on a EGL to OpenGL ES 2.0 wrapper based on the Warp 3D Nova/OpenGL ES 2.0 combination sold by A-EON which is supposed to simplify and enable porting modern OpenGL-based games (Youtube video).
Nouvel offers a beta version of his port for download. Currently only beta testers of the next version of A-EON's Enhancer package can use it.
According to Nouvel his library supports "virtually all functions of opengles.library". His port provides mainly the following features:
- Full keyboard support
- The window mode and full screen mode
- GUI reaction options:
- Limit fps
- Frame rate display function
- Selection Screen depth
- VSync
- PNG Image natively with alpha
- Uncompressed TGA image with alpha
- Planned: MiniGlutES
- Planned: Sound Effects via datatype

Collective purchase order: Motherboard, network card, 68030 accelerator board
Amy-ITX is an Amiga motherboard in standard ITX form factor. The board has to be equipped with the usual Amiga custom chips, offers two Zorro slots (DMA is only supported on one of the slots) and is compatible to accelerator boards like the Vampire 500, which are directly plugged in the processor socket.
For this motherboard now - after a test run with only 25 produced pieces in 2017 - a first and according to the developer singular public production run will be started. For 65 Euro each interested user will get a bare motherboard, a bare daughterboard which will take the CHIP-RAM, a detailed list of the required components as well as a instruction for assembling the computer. If you are not able to program the ICs you can order three preprogrammed ICs for additional 25 Euro. Official support is not offered, it is referred to the growing [Amy-ITX-]community.
The same developers also offers two extensions, developed for Amy-ITX but should also work on different Amigas with Zorro or m68k processor socket. They also are bare boards which have to be equipped by the puchasers:
For 35 Euro a 10Mbit network card for Zorro slots is available which is based on the same network chip like the well-known Ariadne (RTL8019) and is compatible with the original drivers of the VillageTronic.
An accelerator board with 68030 processor, 6 MB Fast RAM and an IDE bus is available for 55 Euro. The board is plugged into the processor socket of the 680000 and should be also compatible to the Amiga models 500, 1000 and 2000. According to the developers it is an "extremely optimized 030-based accelerator" which "outperforms every single Amiga accelerator in the category".
The components required for the projects have to be organized and collected by the users themselves. For the moment you can register your interest. This registration still is not binding. Some weeks later all interested users will be contacted and get the option to place an official order and to pay the money in advance.

AmigaOS 4: Support for Polaris graphic cards (Enhancer Software)
Under the title link Matthew Leaman of A-EON Technology wrote that for the AmigaOS-4 extension "Enhancer Software" he guess the support for graphic cards equipped with AMD's Polaris chip set will be added.

AROS: Summary of development in January
Based on the weekly information on the development of the open source operating system AROS, this is the summary for January.
- Fixed a crash in AHI prefs when there's no output available (hitchhikr)
- Fixed code corruption (corrupt taglists) caused by compiler optimisation quirks. This may have caused bugs in various places throughout AROS: it is known to have affected some DataTypes at least (neil)
- The French translations for system components were brought up to date (hitchhikr)
- Fixed a crash in the standard text editor that sometimes occurred while opening a file (hitchhikr)
- Fixed two visual glitches in Wanderer regarding the lasso and the headings in list mode (hitchhikr)
- Fixed the same code corruption problem as last week, but for GCC 6 (neil)
- More visual bugs fixed in Wanderer (hitchhikr)
- SAM440 build works again (balaton)
- Fixed MMU setup on SAM440 to avoid exceptions before TLB entries for handlers are set up (balaton)
- Fixed a potential crash in the USB HID driver (balaton)
- Fixed a memory corruption bug in IPrefs (balaton)
- Added a command line interface to FTManager (o1i)
- Give a more helpful error message when calling C:List on NIL: (polluks)

"Elfie - The Unicon" is a classic jump'n run game for kids which is supposed to be released as free download. The author still needs graphic artists, sound designers and testers for supporting him finishing the game.
