AmigaOS 4: Web-Browser MUI-OWB 1.9
Roman "kas1e" Kargin, Thore Böckelmann and Daniel Westerberg have ported the MUI-based web browser OWB 1.9, developed by Fabien "Fab" Coeurjoly, to AmigaOS4. This browser which for MorphOS is called "Odyssey" has nothing to do with the port of the Origyn web browser which also is available for AmigaOS 4. MUIOWB/Odyssey is based on Webkit and has a completely different graphical user-interface.
MUI-OWB 1.9 (screenshot, Youtube video) requires AmigaOS 4.1 Update 3. The first launch of the programm takes some more time since all necessary character set lists must be generated.

Emulator: Preview to WinUAE 2.3.3
As usual the developers have given a preview to the forthcoming version 2.3.3 of the well-known Amiga emulator WinUAE. WinUAE 2.3.3 will be available in the middle of September and introduce a new VSync-mode which should solve the problem of the a hundred per cent CPU-load.
New features:
- New very low latency VSync mode, autodetects real refresh rate, no more 100% CPU usage, supports also windowed modes. (Not compatible with fastest possible CPU modes but planned in future)
- Experimental rawinput joystick/joypad support. (-rawhid command line parameter). Added because DirectInput is said to introduce some extra input lag.
Updates:
- Real cause for Max Transfer IDE problem found. IDE emulation detects and logs it now. (*)
- CD image audio buffer increased slightly, some systems had glitches in CD audio.
- Non-configured joystick/mouse autoswitch update: short firebutton press or move left = insert into joystick port, longer press or move right = insert into mouse port.
- Add Harddrive option does not require Administrator privileges anymore, most removable drives can be used without higher privileges, at least under Windows 7.
Fixed bugs:
- IDE emulation write hang introduced in 2.3.2.
- A590/A2091 emulation crash if CPU was 68020+.
- On the fly CD switching (both images and real CDs) reliability improved.
- Direct3D blank screen problem is now 100% fixed. Really.
- win32.hardfile_path didn't work.
- On the fly resolution change didn't work correctly, resolution autoswitch improved.
- Key or joystick button mapped to mouse direction didn't work.
- Analog stick mapped to mouse had too fast and unstable speed.
*) Max Transfer problem was introduced with ATA v2 specification. ROM built-in IDE driver assume ATA v1 behavior, some drives are compatible with ATA v1, some are not and will require Max Transfer fix. It is NOT a drive bug.

AmigaOS 4: Video-Player DvPlayer 0.76
Stephen Fellner has published a new version of his video player DvPlayer which now supports subtitles, different languages and new audio codecs.
Registered users should receive the update via eMail. An updated demo version is available on the website of the author.
Changes in version 0.76:
- Added support for DVD subtitles. Subtitles can be selected in the subtitle menu when playing DVDs.
- Added support for IFO files on DVDs to show audio and subtitle languages.
- Added support for MPEG audio files, including VBR (Variable BitRate) MPEG audio support.
- Added support for AIFF audio files.
- Added audio scope effect when playing audio-only files.
- Added support for YUV420 planar overlay format introduced in AmigaOS4.1.
- Added transparency (alpha channel) support for skins making it possible to have shaped windows and other transparency effects.
- Implemented a new type of AVI frame-skipping algorithm which achieves
smoother playback on slower machines.
- Added requester when dragging files into DvPlayer window to ask if the files should be appended to the end of the playlist or replace the current list.
- When current file finished playing and window is closed/reopened it is only activated if it was activated previously so that the focus is not taken away from the user who may be working in another window at that time.
- Now a requester informs if a suitable audio codec cannot be found and even gives an option to search for available codecs online.
- Fixed a bug which caused a DSI when volume slider was moved while no movie loaded.
- Fixed framerate and movie length determination in AVI files which were
sometimes incorrect.
- Text in TextArea is no longer rendered without clearing the area behind it which was causing graphics corruptions with some skins.
- Solved issue that was causing some slowdowns and delays on Sam440 systems.
- Uses new 64-bit YUV rendering routines on systems where this leads to a
performance improvement.
- When the about window was open the main window became unresponsive. Now main window events are serviced in this case also.
- Movie area in GUI is now only cleared during window refresh if the window's size changed. This keeps the current frame displayed when playback is paused and the window is deselected.
- Optimized MPEG Video stream detection code to allow for faster load times.
- Fixed a bug which caused the text area in the GUI not to be refreshed in non-overlay window mode.
- File requesters and other requesters were always opened on Workbench even if DvPlayer was started on another screen, now it opens on the same screen as the DvPlayer window.
- Doubled stack cookie which solves issues with playback of files with MJPEG codec when running from shell.
- Corrected overlay alignment issues.
- NOSKIP option now works with asf/wmv files too.
- Corrected time display and slider position handling with asf/wmv files.
- Changed alignment of video buffers for playback of AVI files which seems to fix the occasional decoding errors observed with some videos.
- Several other small bug-fixes and optimizations...

Cloanto Releases Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 2012
Press release: August 26, 2011 - Cloanto released today Amiga Forever 2012 and C64 Forever 2012, the latest versions of the award-winning Commodore-Amiga preservation, emulation and support suites for Windows.
By adding powerful content authoring and integration functionality, Amiga Forever and C64 Forever 2012 close the circle between gaming, productivity and preservation of digital culture while adding new features and providing easier access to a universe of free and legal downloads.
The new versions build on a powerful synergy of original components:
- RP9 file format, which is a compressed cross-platform archive containing media images, configuration, description and ancillary data, developed by Cloanto
- RetroPlatform Player and API to interface with different emulation plugins
- Cloanto's unique portfolio of ROM and OS licenses
The new packages can emulate the full range of 8-bit (C64, VIC 20, PET/CBM, etc.) and 16/32-bit systems (Amiga, CDTV, etc.) using an intuitive media player-like interface. The advanced RP9 authoring functionality sets new references in preserving and making accessible digital culture from the 1980s and 1990s. Content created or edited with the Windows software can be played back on other systems, including mobile devices (in part under development).
The 2012 versions not only include hundreds of software enhancements, but also add content of historical interest, like new interviews with Amiga legends RJ Mical and Dave Haynie, also with HD-quality video footage.
Amiga Forever 2012 is available now in three editions:
- Value Edition (downloadable installer for Windows systems)
- Plus Edition (downloadable ISO image with additional Windows and platform-neutral content)
- Premium Edition (physical Plus Edition content plus additional videos on 3 DVDs)
C64 Forever 2012 is available now in three editions:
- Free Express Edition (feature-limited version)
- Downloadable Plus Edition (downloadable installer plus CD ISO image)
- Boxed Plus Edition (downloadable Plus Edition content plus boxed CD)
Amiga Forever and C64 Forever passed official Windows 7 logo tests on both x86 and x64 systems. Prices for both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever start from $9.95 (special upgrade offers).

Picture editing software: iBatch 1.3
Press release Now iBatch 1.3 additionally can "implant" an EXIF-header in converted picture files. iBatch uses the new plugin "jhead-capsule" (screenshot).
If there is not an original EXIF-header, the plugin tries to create a new EXIF-header from the information provided by iBatch.
iBatch 1.3 can be downloaded under the title link and soon on Aminet. The "jhead-capsule" requires the corresponding CLI-command (have a look at the readme-file and the download link on the iBatch-website).

Aminet domain registration expired, Aminet temporarily not available (Update 2)
The Aminet team informs us: Due to an unfortunate oversight, the registration für the domain aminet.net has expired - that's why Aminet is currently not available at that address. The owner of the domain, Urban Müller, has been notified and will fix the problem as soon as possible.
We will announce a replacement URL as soon as it has been established (i.e. as soon as the server admin has returned home). The IP of the Aminet main server is 69.163.220.116, but you'll have to modify your computer's hosts file if you want to use this IP.
Note: Aminet and all of its mirrors continue to exist and are not in danger of being shut down. We're already witnessing users announcing they're making backups "for safety reasons" - please do not do that, you're only wasting server ressources donated to Aminet by private users, non-profit organisations and universities.
Update: (21.08.2011, 16:45, cg)
Amiga user LoadWB managed to convince our provider to reenable the domain for now, until the registration has been renewed.
Update: (21.08.2011, 23:30, cg)
Domain registration has been properly renewed a few hours ago. It may take a few more hours until all DNS servers worldwide have updated their databases accordingly, but tomorrow afternoon evernbody should be able to access Aminet again. (cg) (Translation: cg)

AmigaOS 4: AmigaAMP 3.3
The third generation of AmigaAMP written by Thomas Wenzel is available PPC-native for AmigaOS 4 in version 3.3. Changes:
- Fixed colour palette of the analyzer for the included Base-Skin
- "Default" file name pattern added
- AsyncIO-support to Libsndfile added
- Tag-Info window title shows complete file path
- New prefs-editor
The author wrote: "Finally there is a new prefs-editor! Thanks to Daniel Jedlicka who has written him!
If in the prefs-programm the file name pattern is set to "default", AmigaAMP selects the best fitting pattern for the file requester. Therefore it is not necessary any longer to manually adapt the pattern for each new release. Of course you can overwrite the pattern by another one.
AmigaAMP 3 now can use the asyncio.library for all decoders. But this option is turned off and cannot be turned on with the prefs-programm. Instead you have to set the tooltype to ASYNCIO in the pictogramm."

iBatch: Image2Icon user-interface
Gero von Birkenfeld wrote: The Image2Icon-GUI is a frontend for the Image2Icon-Shell-command (Aminet). Image2Icon-GUI can be used as stand-alone programm or as "Plugin" for iBatch 1.2 (Screenshot).
I do not call it image2icon-plugin any longer but "image2icon-capsule". An iBatch-plugin does not require further software. "Capsule" is meant to be an extended GUI-frontend for existing Shell-commands. With Image2Icon-GUI you can create preview icons for any picture directory.
Features
- Saving preview pictures as icons
- Black icon-fringe
- Glow-effect
- "Printing" image solution on the icon
Image2Icon-GUI only can be downloaded from the iBatch website under the title link. Since there are a lot of useful Shell-based graphic commands, further frontends (capsules) for iBatch will follow. iBatch 1.3 - which probably will be published at the end of August - will include the capsule "jhead" (transfering EXIF-data to converted JPG-files).
