Individual Computers: Clone-A presentation, Catweasel drivers, Breakpoint
On saturday, march 31st, Clone-A was successfully presented at Schloss Rahe Business center in Aachen, Germany. Project leader Oliver Achten and owner Jens Schönfeld faced up to the visitor's questions and presented an Amiga where the complete custom chipset was replaced by Clone-A development boards.

In addition to demo programs that we have prepared, lots of programs were shown that visitors have brought. All these programs were executed without any flaws, just one program made the computer crash, where it wasn't clear if it was caused by a read error from the disk or by an incompatibility of the chipset. The visitor was given a voucher for 100,- EUR. In further tests after the demonstration, we could not reproduce the error, so there's no known incompatibility between Clone-A and a "real" Amiga at this time.

A new version of the Catweasel MK4 driver is available from our support site. Version 2.3.0.0 is a public beta version that corrects many known issues and adds new features. The most important change is that the joysticks can now be used as input devices for any Windows program (for example emulators), without the need for adapting these programs first. A new configuration program eases the use of the imagetool, and a few files for developers have been added to the archive, so direct access to disks is possible for other programs. Certain computer configurations now allow the "suspend to disk" function. This lets you put the computer into hibernation mode without having to shut it down completely. Since this function does not work properly on all computers yet, we decided to release this driver version as a beta-version with known issues and continue to work on this part of the driver in the coming weeks.

Like every year at easter time, the Breakpoint party takes place in Bingen, Germany, where more than 1000 visitors are expected. Of course we are sponsoring the event with cash and hardware prizes. The presentation of Clone-A will be repeated during a seminar. Unfortunately, project leader Oliver Achten does not have the time to take part in the Breakpoint party. (cg)

MorphOS: Arcade-Emulator MAME 0.113
Fabien Coeurjoly has published an update of the Multi Arcade Machine Emulator which emulates several arcade-machines. Because the MAME-Core has changed a great deal since the last MorphOS-version the MorphOS-port was done nearly completely new and has now an improved graphical user-interface and a lower sound latency. Besides this the video routines were optimated and the "Aspect ratio" is kept better.

Coldfire turbocard: Status-update for Coldfusion
In a thread at amiga.org Oliver "Oli_hd" Hannaford-Day gave a statement to the status of his Coldfusion project. The goal is to develop a Coldfire based turbocard for Amiga computers.

The developer told that he keep on working at the project but he does not believe in finishing it. There would be too many problems (connecting the turbocard via the Amiga-bus) therefore the connection with the PCI-bus currently would be the only practicable solution - but which has different problems.

Currently Hannaford-Day spends his time for other, smaller projects. He will not stop his Coldfire-project because he has invested too many resources but he also recommends all interested users to "look for different solutions". (cg) (Translation: dr)

David Brunet / Gunnar von Boehn (ANF)

Graphician needed for Amiga game project
David Brunet writes: Gunnar von Boehn is looking for one or more GFX artists to create new Amiga 2D games. The games will be in the spirit of great Amiga titles and will be based on the Arcade Construction Kit (ACK) project which started last year.

As the game is based on the ACK engine, it will run on all faster Amiga platforms. This includes AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS and fast AmigaOS 3.x systems like UAE/WinUAE and PowerPC or Coldfire equipped classic Amigas. In addition to this, the game would be able to run on other platforms such as Linux, Windows and Mac OS.

There are 2 game genres possible:

Genre 1:
Classical shoot'em up like "Menace" or "Hybris".
Typical ideas are space shooter, plane, submarine or Rambo style.

Genre 2:
Classical beat'em up in the spirit of "IK+", "Karateka", "Streetfighter", "Samurai Showdown" or "Sword of Sodan".
Basicly everything is possible ranging form Karate, Samurai, Knights, Monsters, Super Heroes, to catfighting Bikini Babes.

The exact look and feel is fully up to taste and abilities of the GFX artist.

A nice option is to start with simple one2one Karate type games. For such a IK+ type game we would only need one background image and one set of sprites. It could later be enhanced with extra story line, extra backgrounds and extra characters.

The GFX artist needs to be able to create all the images for his game. This includes the title screen, the backgrounds and the sprites. The game engine supports all types of resolutions and color models. The game engine imposes nearly no limits on us (i.e. size and number of sprites is nearly unlimited). The targeted resolution is 640x480 in True Color. But other resolutions are possible if wanted.

With a fast GFX artist, it could be possible to create such a game in less than a month.

There is a nice bonus as well. Genesi offered to sponsor this project by donating a free Efika to every GFX artist who helps to create a game for Amiga/MorphOS.

Interested persons can contact us at: Gunnar AT greyhound-data DOT com (snx)

Chris Hodges (ANF)

USB stack: Poseidon 3.6
Press release:  The just completed new version V3.6 of Poseidon is now available. It includes several enhancements, fixes and supports more mass storage devices, ethernet adapters and the infamous USB Rocket Launcher.

Download it here or use Trident's built-in online update facility.

News in V3.6
  • Mass storage class overhaul. Now supports bigger physical block sizes for automounting of RDB partitions, FAT/NTFS and also CD/DVD drives, also adding a lot of emulation, workaround and new compatibility fixes (also fixes the multi LUN problem reported here multiple times).
  • Several fixes and changes regarding USB 2.0 support.
  • Reworked Prefs Handling, enhanced Trident.
  • Changes, fixes and enhancements in the main library.
  • New class supporting ethernet adapters using ASIX Chipsets.
  • New shell tool for the use of USB Rocket Launchers (no this is no April's fool joke).
  • This release also contains a workaround to the deficiency in Elbox' spider.device that can be activated with the "Compatibility hack" option in Trident.

I really spent a lot of time and effort on this release, polishing a lot of the internals at various places. Mass storage should now work better than ever. The new Asix Ethernet class makes it possible to benefit of 100MBit adapters on USB 2.0 -- as long as the USB board doesn't drain the CPU too much (which unfortunately, is the case with the Spider). But there are things to come.

It should be performing very well on the classic Amigas now. I be will spending the next weeks in making the experience for MorphOS at least equally nice.

Enjoy -- Chris Hodges (cg) (Translation: cg)

AROS-Exec (Webseite)

AROS-Exec : Call for wall-papers
Due to a certain need for new Wanderer backgrounds, everyone is invited to the official "Call for wall-papers" at AROS-Exec.

The wallpapers should be placed in the AROS-Exec gallery and should have a minimal size of 800x600, images in multiple resolutions would be best.

Since there is no resizing of wallpapers supported in Wanderer, the image content might be aligned to the upper left corner, so using a 1024x786 background image in a 800x600 resolution would not cut any logos or sensitive parts.

All images must be released under APL and must not contain any foreign copyrighted materials!

The competition deadline is May 31st, after which a poll will be starting to nominate the winning image. This will be set as the default desktop background in the nightly builds. (snx)

IOSPIRIT GmbH (ANF)

IOSPIRIT GmbH quits the Amiga market
Press release IOSPIRIT GmbH ends its Amiga business on the 1st of April 2007.

In the future, IOSPIRIT GmbH will be focusing solely on its Mac® products. In order to better serve the needs of that market and to be able to process incoming orders faster and more efficiently, a reimplementation of the shop system is currently being worked on.

The reasons for the decision to no longer operate in the Amiga market are as follows:
  • We want to fully commit to developing Mac® products in the future
  • The big additional overhead that would be necessary to integrate (permanent) support for download and package versions of Amiga software into the new concept and the drawbacks that would come with this for the majority of our customers - which today are Mac® users
  • The decreasing demand for Amiga products and the the situation of the Amiga market in general
IOSPIRIT's own Amiga titles will no longer be available beyond April, 1st, 2007 - except of course for remaining stock at dealers. The future distribution as well as development and support of IBrowse will be handled directly by the IBrowse development team. You can find their website at ibrowse-dev.net.

Many thanks go to
  • All of our customers and users for being loyal for so many years, which has made the development of our Amiga titles possible in the first place;
  • All developer and scene buddies for the many interesting, reflective, funny, educational, helpful and amicable moments, anecdotes and experiences;
  • All those, who have always been there to help with mental and moral support and an independant, second opinion.
We wish all of you all the best for the future and would be happy to see you again over in the Mac® market. If you are interested in what we are currently working on, you can find our Mac® products at iospirit.com.

Sincerly,
Felix Schwarz (snx)

Magazin: Retro #3 published
Since this week the third release of the Retro magazine is available in stores. An item overview is given under the title link. The official press release is listed below:

About Hackers and Heroes

The fascination of computers and the number of those who are using them full of enthusiasm was increasing within the seventies. Small groups came up which were even occupied with the world of computers aside the universities. Every new piece of software was examined, analysed and passed on.

Bill Gate's idea of a software market came to the idealistic hacker's world like a bombshell. It was the opinion that every programmer acquired his knowledge from others and only a free exchange could guarantee a further development.

Bill Gates neither wanted to share his knowledge with others nor he wasn't prepared to allow that his software should be freely copied and changed by others. Being upset, finally he wrote a so called "open letter" to the Homebrew computer club. In it he claimed the ones as thieves who were using and copying his software without any payment.

Retro #3 shows Bill Gate's original letter from the year 1976 and gives impressions from hackers' ethics and crackers' philosophy. Furthermore there are scenes of Wau Holland, being figured as a co founder of the Chaos computer club.

Additional highlights in Retro #3 are a special about soccer manager games and the history of the Amstrad/Schneider CPC.

About Retro:

Exciting, funny and a special sense for retro trends - RETRO offers everything from the cosmos of digital lifestyle. The magazine reports from video games, hard- and software for retro fans, but even introduces people and stories in the background. With a regular view of events all over the world RETRO informs you of all aspects from the digital retro culture. Even a cd-rom is attached to every issue - full of videos, sounds and games from the retro scene.

RETRO #3 consists of 96 pages and is in stores for 9,95 Euro since March 20, 2007. A cd-rom with 25 video games is part of this issue. (snx) (Translation: tz)

AmigaOS 4: Software sampler Phonolith 0.5
Phonolith is a software instrument for AmigaOS 4 which plays back sampled waveforms. It is usable with Horny and other CAMD-based sequencers or just with a connected MIDI keyboard as well.

New in this version is the "Mixdown" function, with which one's own songs can be saved as AIFF files. But this only works with a keyfile. Since such are not sold yet before version 1.0, one can obtain them only through registering the Horny MIDI sequencer.

Features of version 0.5:
  • downmixing to AIFF file (not for lite version)
  • receives MIDI notes through camd.library
  • mixer unit with volume controls and peak meters
  • 16 different instruments at once
  • ADSR amp envelope for each instrument
  • unlimited number of samples for each instrument, for key and velocity ranges
  • supports AIFF (16 bit) sample format
  • imports Logic EXS24 instruments (only from Macintosh (PPC?))
  • ReAction GUI

Planned features of version 1.0:
  • mixer unit with panning controls
  • WAVE sample support
  • better EXS24 import (Intel format...)
  • connection to Horny for automatic project loading
  • control mixer with MIDI commands
  • non-linear volume levels and ADSR-release

Further information on Phonolith can be found under the title link. (cg) (Translation: cad)

MorphOS: SearchStar 0.78
Tom 'Amigaharry' Duin writes about version 0.78 of his search program: "Reading the Amiga Future 65 review about my SearchStar 0.76, the review stated that not all files were found by searching. I was going into the sources and found the bug; a near double match was not detected. For instance, search for TEST, then TTEST, TETEST and TESTEST was not found.

Searching for files, through files and file comments is bugfixed. However, the deletion and renaming of files are improved but not entirely bugfixed. As I am going to holiday, it will take a while to solve the last two bugs." (snx)

HTMLview.mcc Open Source Team (ANF)

HTMLview.mcc released under LGPL
Press release The HTMLview.mcc MUI class authors are proud to announce that finally after 10 years of successful development on the AmigaOS platform, the full sources of the HTMLview.mcc MUI custom class are now released under the LGPL license.

In 2000 the sources were kind of lost, because the original author (Allan Odgaard) faced a harddisk crash. However, in early 2005 another try was started to recover the sources from that particular harddisk and luckily the full sources were salvaged from it. Therefore the sources are now released under the LGPL Open source license to a) attract more developers to it and b) to have "the internet" as the future backup server for it.

The sources are now hosted on a sourceforge.net SVN and every interested developer is invited to contribute to the development of the HTMLview.mcc class, especially for the upcoming efforts in AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS development. (snx)

AROS for AmigaOS: AfA 3.95
Version 3.95 of AROS for AmigaOS (AfA), a port of individual AROS components, now installs the Iconlib from AROS as well, to be able to display dual PNG icons in 32 bit from AmigaOS 4 on the Workbench and in Directory Opus Magellan.

New here compared to the final beta version is that in AFA_Prefs, the transparency of default icons as well as the transparency of icons when dragging can be adjusted.

Other improvements:

The FAQ was expanded with troubleshooting for the new Iconlib and CyberGraphX, and a Readme file for the new Iconlib was written.

Problems with the Exe datatype as well as the MacSnd datatype and CopyIcons were solved.

Under Picasso 96 and CyberGraphX 2, dragging icons in 32 bit now works under Directory Opus Magellan and Workbench as well. However, under CyberGraphX 3 and 4, only the icon scaled down to four colors is displayed.

In the author's opinion, the latter two versions of CyberGraphX seem to have the problem which cannot be remedied by the Supergels patch. Namely, it is important that the old icon bitmap data was not modified by any patch, because otherwise, the icon recognition in BltMaskBitmap-Rastport does not work, so that no 32 bit alpha image can be blitted, reportedly. CD-Writer software: MakeCD available for free
The CD-Writer software MakeCD, written by Patrick Ohly and Angela Schmidt, which has been shareware before, is now available for free.

The authors write: "MakeCD used to be shareware and some shops sold boxed versions with licenses. This worked well in the past and we are thankful to everyone who found MakeCD worth paying for. However, MakeCD sales have long ago stopped being a relevant source of income for us. At the same time it has become harder and harder for interested users to get hold of a MakeCD license as more and more Amiga shops ceased business.

Therefore we decided to draw a line and stop selling MakeCD altogether: now it is available for free. You still need a valid license key for the existing binaries, which can be obtained at the title link.

Thanks again to all users and distributors who paid for MakeCD licenses, your support has been priceless. I hope you understand that making MakeCD available for free is necessary to ensure that users who want to use it can do so. The status of MakeCD does not change because of it: it is considered stable. We will ensure that it keeps working on Amiga compatible systems." (snx)

Babylon 5: Production observation of "The Lost Tales" (English)
On its website CGSociety.org the Society of Digital Artists observes the production of "Lost Tales" episodes of Babylon 5 which are to be published on DVD and which are about the characters John Sheridan, Elizabeth Lochley and Galen.

On page 2 the father of the serie called Joseph Michael Straczynski remembers the use of an Amiga at the beginning of the serie: "The initial render farm consisted of several Amiga?s linked together with wires that ran through the apartment of the guy who initially did the FX.

The wires also ran through his rabbit cages. Every so often, in the middle of a render, a rabbit would chew through a wire. They would call me to tell me they had a rabbit crash. And now here we are today." (snx) (Translation: dr)

individual Computers at CeBIT / Clone-A presentation on March 31st
Press release Individual Computers is present at the world's biggest computer fair CeBIT twice this year: Viprinet GmbH show the Multichannel VPN Router. Individual Computers was significantly involved in the development of the router, which lets you bundle up to six physical broadband lines into a single virtual dedicated line. This increases bandwidth, but also increases reliability of your internet connection up to 99.99% annual mean availability - better and cheaper than any regular dedicated line could offer. Viprinet has booth number E48 in hall 14.

We're especially happy to support the new company Commodore with rare units from our retro-computer collection. This includes a PET2001 which is 30 years old this year. Commodore International is at booth number B34 in hall 19.

Our project "Clone-A" will be demonstrated on saturday march 31st, 2007 in Aachen, Germany. We will show the prototype of our Amiga-chipset clone at Schloß Rahe Business Center from 12:00 to 4:00pm. Clone-A will ultimately be put into a single low-cost chip, which can be used in a laptop or desktop computer, but also in smaller mobile units and toys. The chip contains the processor, accelerated graphics and sound. To operate the chip, only a small amount of memory is needed. There's a huge number of free and commercial programs and about 5000 games for the Amiga platform. The games can compete with today's consoles in multimedia presentation and gaming fun.

After a demonstration that we have prepared (about 30 minutes), visitors will have the chance to put Clone-A to the test: We're inviting visitors to bring especially critical software, which will demonstrate the compatibility of Clone-A to a real Amiga. Should you bring a program (floppy disk) that works better on an Amiga 500 with 1MB of chipmem and a 68000 processor at 7 MHz, we will honour your efforts with a voucher for 100 Euro for products out of our portfolio.

There is no entrance fee for Schloß Rahe Business Center, and there's free parking for visitors. (snx)

IRC client: Wookiechat 2.6 Beta 5
James Carroll provides a new beta version of his MUI based IRC client Wookiechat for AmigaOS 3/4. Changes in beta 5:
  • BETA 1: Made sure all commands in "Connect Scripts" operate in the right tab when connecting to a few servers simultaneously
  • BETA 1: Tab memory and objects used to be freed after closing WookieChat, but now I'm starting to clean up memory as soon as a tab is closed. Very handy on machines with small amounts of RAM (like my 6mb A1200!)
  • BETA 1: If Wookie is unable to automatically obtain your own address for use in establishing DCC connections, you can now manually specify an address yourself in the prefs. (Main Settings > DCC)
  • BETA 2: Slight modification: "Connect scripts" are executed in the root tab
  • BETA 2: When you connect, the "001" server message is displayed in full and in the root tab. This message contains your hostname, or what the IRC server thinks is your hostname
  • BETA 2: Added sanity checks to the gethostbyname() calls, so that if your address value is invalid for some reason, it wont crash
  • BETA 2: Rejiggered the "close tab" code. It was crashing when closing multiple channels in a particular sequence
  • BETA 3: Attempted to fix crashes when doing "cursor up/down" quickly in tabs
  • BETA 4: New tab system. Optionally, you can display tab names in a listview under the nicklist, instead of using buttons along the bottom of the window. This system is ideal for users with lots of tabs open. Toggle this setting at "Main Settings > General"
  • BETA 4: All info from /whois replies are displayed in the right colour and with «Whois» at the start now
  • BETA 4: Wallop messages, usually from server admins talking to each other, are now displayed correctly
  • BETA 4: You can comment out lines in your Connect Scripts with ; at the beginning of each line
  • BETA 4: Bugfix: No longer crashes if you had more than 40 ignores in your list
  • BETA 5: The button-style tabs/listview-style tabs toggling wasnt working properly I'm very sorry for this.. it seems to be working well now

Hardware encyclopedia: BBoAH with new license
Mario Misic writes:  After the official hand over of the BBoAH from Ian Chapman to Mario Misic together with the AmigaFuture, Mario Misic decided to put the entire data of the "Big Book of Amiga Hardware" under the license of the "Creative Commons License" immediately and under exclusion of any commercial usage.

This license has been chosen to exclude any commercial usage of the BBoAH material by third parties and to account for the participation of volunteers and to ensure the continuation of the BBoAH's in its known kind.

The Amiga Future as well as ACP&TCP are currently holding the only written permission to license the BBoAH content commercially. For non commercial usage the entire BBoH data material is available according to the chosen CC licenseg which is available at the BBoAH website in 34 different translations.

All breaches of the CC license will be avenged when the required souce citation is not given properly now, this is especially important for ebay auctions. The change of the license mas made only to ensure the continuation of the "Big Book of Amiga Hardware" in its known kind.

We thank all users for the attention and understanding and are looking forward to a promising BBoH future. (cg) (Translation: ub)

Chiptune-Tracker: Hively-Tracker 1.3 for AmigaOS 3/4
HivelyTracker is a tracker based on AHX-format (screenshot). In the 90ies AHX was developed to write music titles which are similar to the typical chip sound of SID (sound-chip of the C64) ähneln. Changes since version 1.3:
  • Position editor now has indicators so its clear to which channel each column relates (suggested by syphus)
  • If you used ring modulation effects in the right hand parameter list of an instrument, but not the left, it would try and save it as an AHX instrument instead of an HVL instrument. Fixed. (thanks to syphus)
  • Added Zap Song/Instrument/Position options (suggested by m0d)
  • Added play time indicator (suggested by someone, sorry forgot who)
  • You can now copy and paste arbitary regions in the position editor. (suggested by a couple of people, and I always intended to do it anyway :)
  • "prefs_bg" and "Settings" in skins are now "prefs_os4" and "Settings_os4" respectively so that the same skin can be used for both the OS4 and OS3.x versions
  • Added some bounds checking to the replayer to avoid weird crashes
  • Fixed a couple of small bugs in the replayer (thanks to pieknyman)
  • When changing the position during playback, the current position plays through to the end before jumping to your selected position (suggested by syphus)
  • Some status information which should have been local to each tab was global. Oops. Fixed now
  • Added Ctrl+Tab to jump to the same column in the next channel, and Shift+Ctrl+Tab to jump to the same column in the previous channel. (suggested by syphus)
  • Added Alt+A to mute all but the current channel (suggested by syphus)
  • Added Alt+Q to mute all channels
  • Right clicking on "New Tab" now makes an identical clone of the current tab
  • Added speed multiplier gadget. This is a feature of both AHX and HVL tunes that was always implimented, but there was no way to actually set it in hivelytracker until now (oops :)
  • Pressing the right mousebutton in the instruments list of the instruments editor will copy the current instrument to the slot where you clicked
  • Holding control and pressing the right mousebutton on a slot in the instrument list in the instrument editor will zap that instrument
  • Changed the default gain values when loading in AHX modules and using stereo mixing. The values before were calculated by running lots of tunes through the Autogain calculations and using the lowest values that came out. Well, it was too high, so now I actually calculated them using actual maths! (thanks again to pieknyman for finding a tune that clipped)
  • Added some more options to the skin system to enable the cool new "Vintage" theme

AmigaOS 4: DiskMaster 2.7beta11
Rudolph Riedel has made availabe another beta version of his file manager DiskMaster 2.7 in OS4Depot.

Changes since 2.7beta10:
  • Despite some corrections for the 68k version, it still does not run perfectly, unfortunately
  • The calculation for adjusting the standard window to different screen resolutions was improved
  • The string gadget in the command window now displays either the configuration file with which DM2 was launched, or "S:DiskMaster2.prefs"
  • Correction: When using volume names like "Sys:" instead of device names like "DH0:", an error in the rename function had caused the renamed entry to be removed from the list.
  • Correction: Shortcut resolution did not work
  • A couple of chapters in DiskMaster2.guide were updated

Thor: ARexx script BBSsalvage.br 1.3
BBSsalvage.br is an ARexx script for the offline reader Thor, which attempts to recover damaged databases.

The script was created after an error had occurred at the author, which could not be repaired by ValidateThor, and which led to crash when trying to open a discussion.

Improvements in version 1.3:
  • Fix a bug introduced in v1.2 (or was it v1.1 ?) where a missing "end" instruction in the main loop made the script unusable
  • BBSsalvage.br will now warn you if Thor is running (Thor must not be running), and if BBSread was previously used and still loaded in memory
  • BBSsalvage.br will no more verbose that a message marked as deleted is skipped (this is to save the size of the output from results which are not very informative anyway)
  • The script will now warn if a text line length in the body of a message is longer than 32767 characters (Due to a bug in the Visual Options-Messages Links, Thor may crash the system while trying to display a message containing a too long unwrapped line)
  • The BBS list order and the conference list order are now preserved
  • The "read" (or "unread") status of the messages is now preserved too

AROS: Snapshots stopped
From today on the AROS developers have stopped the release of "snapshots", stable versions of the os for people who are interested in testing them.

The main reason for this decision is, that the developers are mainly working on the further extension of AROS as well as the bugfixes and therefore not enough time is left for dealing with the snapshot build. As a consequence the snapshots are far behind the current development status.

Users who are interested in the operating system's development status are encouraged to use the daily automated generated nightly builds. (snx) (Translation: tz)

Networking: Amiga Explorer 2007
Press release:  The Amiga Forever team at Cloanto is pleased to announce the release of Amiga Explorer 2007. The new version of the popular Amiga-PC networking software features dedicated support for Windows Vista and for 64-bit systems, for which a separate package is now available for download.

Amiga Explorer makes it possible to access the resources (files, disk images, ROMs) of an Amiga computer from the Windows desktop. It is even possible to download ADF disk images on the PC, and drag-and-drop them to an Amiga floppy drive. Amiga Explorer works over a null-modem serial cable, via a Bluetooth dongle attached to the Amiga serial port, or via Ethernet or any other TCP/IP link. The Amiga side can even be installed over the serial cable and run from RAM or floppy. The only requirement is that the Amiga be bootable into a standard Workbench environment (1.2 or higher, also compatible with AmigaOS 4.0 and MorphOS). Professional users who already have a network in place can use Amiga Explorer in parallel with other tools.

The new version of Amiga Explorer 2007, which carries the "Works with Windows Vista" logo, is part of a constant effort of Cloanto to support the latest platforms. Amiga Forever 2006 was designed with Windows Vista support in mind from the beginning, but Amiga Explorer required some extra work, such as development of the 64-bit namespace extension. The MenuBox launcher, which was also originally developed for use in Amiga Forever, was among the first 100 applications worldwide to pass the "Certified for Windows Vista" test, as published by Microsoft last week.

Amiga Explorer 2007 costs $19.95 and is also included in the Plus and Premium editions of Amiga Forever. Upgrades are free to all existing customers, including Amiga Forever users. The software is free to test from the Amiga Explorer Home Page. (cg) (Translation: cg)
