Web-Browser: First alpha version of Netsurf for AmigaOS 3
On a discussion on amiga.org Artur Jarosik told that he has ported the browser Netsurf to AmigaOS 3. NetSurf is a fast browser which was originally developed for RiscOS and which works from 17 MB memory on and supports HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1.

The AmigaOS 3-version is an early alpha version. There are till some bugs (colours, text input). Netsurf requires Truetype-Fonts, which therefore requires a Truetype-Handler (the author recommends AfA). The required fonts are included in the package and must be copied to ONTS:TrueType/. Additionally a screen mode of 32 Bit colour depth should be used for Netsurf. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Cloanto: Amiga Explorer 2009
Press release Amiga Explorer 2009 has just been released. The new version includes enhanced support for Windows 7, an update to Software Director and support for Amiga Forever 2009. The update is free to all Amiga Explorer users.

Amiga Explorer 2009 can be downloaded via Software Director, or from the Amiga Explorer Home Page. If doing a manual download, note the two different editions, one for x86 systems, the other for x64 systems. The Amiga side is always included and works on both 68K and PPC systems.

Traditionally, the release of the new Amiga Explorer as included in Amiga Forever precedes by a few days the launch of a new version of Amiga Forever itself. (snx)

Filesharing: AmiGift 2.0
Amigift is a P2P-filesharing system which is based on a giFT-daemon (Gnutella, FastTrack, OpenFT) and includes a MUI-based graphical user-interface called "GiftMUI" (screenshot). After a few beta versions finally version 2.0 of the program is available. The changes are listed in the Changelog. The most important changes in AmiGift 2.0:
  • The daemon no longer uses ixemul, we have now a totally native application!
  • Each of the libs and plug-ins are now compiled and loaded individually, rather than linked with the daemon executable
  • GiFTMui (The MUI front-end) now uses MUI Custom Classes for everything
  • LOTS of code have been either rewritten from scratch or optimized
  • There's now a dopus-like file manager embedded into GiFTMui

Before installing it interested users are asked to have a look at the sections Requirements and Getting started of the AmiGift website. The complete manual is online as well. (cg) (Translation: dr)

Cloanto release C64 Forever
Press release June 1st, 2009 - Cloanto, developers of Commodore/Amiga software since the 1980s, and already publishers of Amiga Forever, launched today C64 Forever (screenshots), a revolutionary preservation, emulation and support package.

C64 Forever embodies an intuitive player interface, backed by a built-in database containing more than 5,000 C64 game entries, and advanced support for the new RP2 format, dubbed the "MP3 of retrogaming" (amiga-news.de reported).

When the C64 was launched in 1982 it immediately set the standard for 8-bit home computers. Its low cost, superior graphics, high quality sound and a massive 64 KB of RAM positioned it as the winner in the home computer wars, knocking out competitors from the likes of Atari, Texas Instruments, Sinclair, Apple and IBM.

Selling over 30 million units and introducing a whole generation to computers and programming, the C64 shook up the video games industry and sparked cultural phenomena such as computer music and the demoscene. In recent years the C64 has enjoyed a spectacular revival manifesting itself once again as a retrocomputing platform.

C64 Forever expands Cloanto's RetroPlatform family, aiming to set new standard in ease of use, emulation power and access to contents. The RetroPlatform player technology, the frequently-updated RetroPlatform Library database and content recognition engine, and the RP2 file format act in synergy to provide a superior user experience.

The software includes more than 100 games, some of the finest demoscene productions, and other bits and pieces of history. Adding content is as easy as a drag-and-drop. The RP2 Manager feature further makes it possible to import thousands of games at once from existing C64 CDs, DVDs or internet downloads, while the built-in search functionality makes it easy to find more games on C64 preservation sites.

C64 Forever (video) is available now in two editions:
  • Downloadable Plus Edition - $19.95
  • Boxed Plus Edition - $24.95 (photo, includes instant download)

APC&TCP: DigiRoller - Betatest for DigiBoosterPro
Press release The Open Beta Test of DigiBoosterPro has started today. For this purpose we have published the program DigiRoller at the title link. We wish to get as much users as possible for this Open Beta Test to avoid future problems.

DigiRoller is a standalone DBM module player and renderer. It is released for free as a preview of sound synthesis technology used in upcoming DigiBooster 3. With DigiRoller any DBM music module can be played or saved to an AIFF/WAVE file. There is also a benchmark mode which allows for estimating DigiBooster 3 player engine speed on different hardware. DigiRoller is being released for AmigaOS 3.x, AmigaOS 4.x and MorphOS 1.4/2.x and runs on all hardware supported by these operating systems (with exception of 68020+ requirement for AmigaOS 3 version).

The key feature of the new DigiBooster 3 player engine is AHI independency. The new engine does not rely on AHI resampling and mixing. Using own algorithms allows for better quality, for example track mixing is done with 24-bit precision. Breaking AHI dependency also opens a way for making high quality DigiBooster 3 module replayers for non-Amiga operating systems like Windows, Linux or MacOS. DigiRoller uses AHI as a playback backend only, to stay compatible with as many sound hardware as possible. (snx)

  • The PEGCC program runs both PortablE and G++ (GCC) for you, thus producing an executable directly from E code
  • PortablE now runs up to twice as fast
  • Added MUI support for AROS
  • Fixed modules to work with AmigaOS 4's latest SDK
  • FastNew() & NEW are now thread safe

MorphOS: Reggae-Updates multimedia.class 52.13 and zxscreen.decoder 51.2
Grzegorz 'Krashan' Kraszewski has published two updates for his multimedia library Reggae:

multimedia.class 52.13
  • Added two helper methods for class implementors: MMM_PrePull() and MMM_PostPull(). Using them in a class saves about a kilobyte of code :-)
  • Added a separete memory lict semaphore, so one can use Reggae memory allocation functions inside MMM_Setup(). One of new incoming classes needs it.

zxscreen.decoder 51.2
  • The first class to use PrePull()/PostPull() helpers
  • Because of this added multimedia.class 52.13+ check at initialization
  • Binary is shorter. ;-)
