AmithlonTV homepage online
Guido Mersmann:
We're proud to present you the new AmithlonTV. For all those out there who never
heard about AmithlonTV here is a small summary:
The original AmithlonTV was made by Michael Ulbrich in the beginning 2002. Due a
lack of time I took over his project and started a complete new AmithlonTV
in June 2002. In the beginnig of November the hardest part was done.
Well, now at the end of November I came to a point, where I need more
information about the cards out there. So here it is: The new AmithlonTV!
I made AmithlonTV for you, so I need your help to support all the cards out
there. My personal card is already full supported! Your job, if you take em, is
to test AmithlonTV with a TV card available and send me debug information. I
need detailed information on the used card (name, vendor, internal and external
connectors ...) and the used chips on the card. It's also required to send in
the "AmithlonTV/Libs/TVCard_CardData/Autoconfig.card" file, which will be created
when running the tool TVCardSetup. When you're able to use Windows it would be
very helpful, if you could start "btspy" to create a setup logfile, which is also
available on the AmithlonTV homepage in the Support/Download section.
On the AmithlonTV homepage you can also find a hardware list containing all
tested cards. With your help this list will grow rapidly within the next weeks.
99% of the listed cards should at least deliver a picture on all available video
inputs.
There is also a new mailing list
"AmithlonTV" for AmithlonTV specific discussion available on our homepage.

Eyetech: A Few Clarifications and Explanations about the AmigaOne
On the AmigaOne mailing list Alan Redhouse (Eyetech) talked about a few points (click on the title link for the full email) that
were not clear until now:
The AmigaOneG3-SE will be delivered without an AMR (Audio-Modem-Riser) card, because Eyetech couldn't get any at
reasonable prices. AmigaOne Customers who buy an SE model must therefore rely on external modems and a PCI soundcard
instead of the integrated AMR slot.
Ole-Egil Hvitmyren (one of the AmigaOne testers) has personally developed an AR (Audio Riser) card, without modem. He will
offer these at a "very reasonable" [quotes are Alan Redhouse's] price.
The Amiga One-XE motherboards are not affected by this: they don't have an AMR slot, the audio output goes directly out on
this model.
Work is occuring on a list of hardware that has been tested with the Amiga One. It was stated that to use this stuff under
OS 4 is going to require Amiga drivers, so pay attention to what Hyperion says about it.
The "Earlybird" systems will come with an installation diskette and a minimal version of SUSE Linux. Additionally provided are
UAE and a licensed Amiga Kickstart ROM image.
The Escena PCI cards that were to allow the AmigaOne to access the custom chips of an attached A1200 motherboard are
considered by Eyetech to be "probably not existent," because no information about the current status of the cards could be
obtained from Escena.
Update: (26.07.2014, cg)
A complete copy of Alan Redhouse's mail (added since the Original has been moved elsewhere by Yahoogroups apparently):

After having some feedback from the A1 dev list the AMR card issue has now
been decided.
The G3-SE boards will not come with an AMR riser card as we have not been
able to source these at a sensible price. However Ole-Egil is rolling into
production soon with and audio-only in/out card for the AMR slot and those
AmigaOneG3-SE purchasers that want one will be able to buy one directly
from him ad a very reasonable price. (If we were to sell them then the
additional margin, VAT and shipping that we would have to add would mean
that it would have to cost considerably more to the end user). However the
G3-SE boards will be shipped with (small, quiet) cpu fans and modified ATX
I/O backplates within the published price (ie ukp360/euro580/usd580 ex-VAT)
which I hope helps.
We did not consider the loss of the modem to be too important as most Amiga
users will have external modems - or ethernet broadband connections - anyway
For those that require an entry-level sound card to get going we can supply
the Creative labs Vibra 128 card for UKP10/euro16/usd16 ex VAT.
The production version of the AmigaOne-XE boards (now in manufacture) will
come with an onboard codec etc and audio sockets in the usual positions on
the ATX I/O knockout - and no AMR slot.
A list of tested hardware is being assembled by people on the A1-dev list
and will be made public shortly. Clearly as far as graphics and other
PCI/AGP cards are concerned these should be chosen from the OS4 support
targets, and not just those that are supported by PPCLinux. The Articia
northbridge uses server-type registered RAM and a list of tested, supported
RAM manufacturers/part numbers will also be included. Quite a few
non-registered SDRAM DIMMs will also work, but only as singles (ie you can
only have one slot populated) These also will be available types will be
included on the list as well.
For the 'Earlybird' systems the SuSE Linux PPC installer is now complete
and comes with a licenced UAE PPC + ROM image. We will be shipping bare
boards with this installer disk and a minimal SuSE linux distro, but unless
you are experienced with Linux we recommend that you buy the full SuSE
LinuxPPC distro with 8 CD's and manuals either from us or elsewhere.
Finally we have been unable to find out from Escena what, if any, progress
that they have made on their PCI-A1200 bridge card so I think that it is
fair to assume that this is unlikely to materialise. However the benefits
of that approach - over networking a 1200 to the A1 and using the latter as
a file etc server - are in my view minimal anyway. This is because most
non-retargetable (eg games) software will get no advantage by running on
the G4 (rather than the A1200+accelerator), and the keyboard and monitor
would have needed switching with either approach. We do still have some
Mk4/5 EZTowers available for anyone who would like to have their A1 and
A1200 networked together in the same case.
Hope this helps

Pagan Games Update
Pagan Games posted an official update on their website today regarding
current and future projects:
27th November 2002 - Hello everyone!
It's been a while since our last update, but here is a report on our
current status.
First of all we might as well get this out of the way - Dafel:
Bloodline is still on hold. It's not cancelled, but we're reconsidering
what the appropriate media for this title is. It is obvious that doing
a version for 68k Amigas would be futile nowadays, yet on the other
hand it would require a serious overhaul to be suitable for the
AmigaOne. We've been considering smaller versions of the game -
installments if you will - on AmigaDE, which would allow users to play
the game both on PDAs and Amigas, once AmigaDE is implemented in
AmigaOS 4. We do have plenty to do with our current projects, though,
so time will tell what happens. One day Dafel: Bloodline will be a
reality, but not just yet. The same goes for Scavengers and Magick by
the way.
What are we doing then? Well, first of all we are working on two
AmigaDE titles. One will be a puzzle/platformer called Quingle and the
other is a straight puzzle game. The latter is as of yet unnamed, but
will be rather different from what you've seen before. We're
progressing quickly on the unnamed title, and hope to have it out very
soon.
Quingle hit a bit of a speed bump some time ago, but is picking up its
pace again. Hopefully we'll have some screenshots for you to look at in
the near future. It is a very nice looking game. It has a old-school
cartoony pixel-style, which has been updated for the 21st century,
combining the best of both worlds.
We're also working on a shoot 'em up project. This is a somewhat
massive project, so it will be some time till it's done. We are
currently developing it with the Dreamcast in mind, thanks to the
excellent publicly available development tools, but we are definitely
interested in seeing it on other platforms as well. AmigaOne could do
with a bit of hardcore shooter action - don't you think? The game has
an unusually interesting story line, highly polished graphics and lots
and lots of action. If you have seen GigaWing 2 or Ikaruga, you know
what I mean when I say action.
Here's hoping that we'll all have shiny new AmigaOnes in the near
future. We want to express our gratitude towards Amiga Inc., for
providing excellent support, Hyperion for doing such an awesome job on
AmigaOS 4 and being generally nice guys, and Eyetech for making the
effort to get the AmigaOne out there to the people.
Sincerely,
Pagan Games

perfectly with the ultron sound cards. Furthermore there are a number
of cases that bring diversification to the grey monotony of computing.
New highlights in the product line are TFT-monitors that combine
hightech-technology with very attractive design. Silver cases make
every desk an eyecatcher. The removable black base enables easy wall

TTEngine 5.1 released
TTEngine is the TrueType font based text rendering engine for AmigaOS.
Version 5.1 can be downloaded from the home page of TTEngine.
TTEngine 5.1 has been released. New features:
- Recompiled with newest FreeType 2.1.3 sources. After some research I've decided to leave bytecode interpreter turned on by default (it is turned off in default FreeType config). Autohinter seems to be not that good as FreeType authors advertise.
- Two wersions of TTEngine are now distributed. One full featured and one without bytecode interpreter. Both have 100% compatible API and can be interchanged by just replacing library file. The "light" version of the library may be interesting for commercial applications authors, since bytecode interpreter uses some patented things.
- TTEngine now supports all ISO-8859 encodings (from 1 to 16, except 12 which probably does not exist), also UTF-16BE and UTF-32BE.
- Application programmer can specify custom 8-bit to Unicode character mapping.
- A few more precise global metrics attributes have been added.
- Added some example programs and "ViewISO" tool showing all ISO-8859 encodings for a font face.
Check "release_notes" file in the distribution archive for the full list of changes.

No Mekka symposium 2003 (Update II)
As announced today on the Mekka Symposium homepage the Mekka Symposium 2003 will not be held. Further details can be found in the following original message or at the title link.
Dear Fellow Sceners,
We will keep the upcoming information as short and painless as possible:
Due to irreconcilable personal differences within the main organizer team, the Mekka & Symposium 2003 WILL NOT TAKE PLACE. Yes, we're serious.
Some of you will shout "NO, you simply can't do that!". Believe us, it was a hard decision for us, too -- but in the end, we had to make it. If you are interested in some more explaining info, read the next few lines.
A demoparty should be fun for everybody, and this is also valid for the organizers that set the whole thing up; a good event can only be organized in a good mood, otherwise it will be a disaster. We don't want the next Mekka & Symposium to become a disaster, so we're going to stop right before this can happen.
The last few years and events were a huge success and we all had a lot of fun; this should never be forgotten by anyone, neither visitors, nor organizers! We stop right at this point to make sure that Mekka & Symposium will always be remembered as one of the best demo parties ever. All the past years it was your support and contribution, your presence and your personal efforts that made Mekka & Symposium such a great, respected and productive event and we deeply say "THANKS" for that, to each and every one of you, be it visitors or organizers.
Sincerely yours,
The Mekka & Symposium Main Organizer Team.
PS: We were told that an alternative party in Germany is being organized at Easter. Stay tuned for details.
Update:
Petition: "Bring back Mekka Symposium Petition".
Update 26.11.2002:
Under http://breakpoint.untergrund.net
you will find information about an alternative event. (ps) (Translation: sk)

ARC 2002 News: Thendic France biggest exhibitor
Thendic France has increased their exhibition area, making themselves
the biggest exhibitor of AMIGA + RETRO COMPUTING 2002. The reason for
this extension is the amount of computers that they are presenting.
Visitors of the show have the opportunity to persuade themselves of
the combination of the new PPC board and MorphOS.
The same amount of computers will be provided for the
betatester-conference that will take place on the same weekend in
room "Berlin 1" of the Dorint-Hotel "Quellenhof", which is located
right next to the Eurogress. Thendic France has finalized the booking
of this room during a meeting that took place in Aachen on November
21st.
The new company Genesi that unites Thendic France and bplan Germany
will be present with all personnel at the show. More than 20 developers
of hard- and software will answer your questions.
Read more about the technical data of Pegasos,
that has been provided by Thendic France.
In addition to the new machines, Thendic will also bring part of their
museum to Aachen. Rare machines like the Walker (Amiga successor that
has never been produced) and 8-bit Commodore machines will be on display
at a separate booth. All the machines are still intact, so you can
experience them in action!
There will be the following persons on the show:
From bplan: Gerald Carda, Thomas Knäbel, Ralph Schmidt and
Emmanuel Lesueur.
From Thendic-France: Nicolas Sallin, David Gerber, Mark Olsen, Rakesh
and Sharwin Raghoebardayal, Nicholas Blachford, Bertrand Presles, Eric
Bertail, Céline Waldberg, Pascal Roe D'Albert, Sébastien Lokhamkhouak,
Matthieu Leroyer and of course Raquel Velasco and Bill Buck.

A team of four Microsoft researchers has come to the conclusion that DRM (Digital Rights Management) is no feasible way to act against peer-to-peer file sharing.
