CyberGraphX: Help for disappearing screen modes for OS3.9 BoingBag2
After the installation of OS3.0 BoingBag2 it can happen that all screen modes disappear. This is due to the same error that happened a few months ago when a newer version of BlizKick was released. The problem is related to a version check of exec. library. Newer exec versions (> v40) cause problems when scanning the display database for cgxsystem.library less than version 42.6. Any exec.library patch or hack with a version > v40 runs into this problem.

By means of the cgxsystem.library from V42.7 this will get fixed. This version is enclosed with CGX from V4.2pre11 (for normal Amiga graphic boards) and CGX from V4.3beta R3 (for G-Rex-PCI). (sd) (Translation: sr)

Games: Paul Burkey about Amiga ports
In Usenet Paul Burkey of Epic Interactive (Foundation, Feeble Files) discussed the difficulties encountered when porting a game to the Amiga.

Porting Feebles Files to Amiga was possible because Epic had already ported this game for MacOS so that the costs for licensing and development had already been covered. This means that the Amiga version just needs to cover the costs for duplication (and some additional time for development). That's why ports exclusively for Amiga aren't possible since developers need additional Mac (or Console) ports in order to survive.

Paul Burkey suggested that two new game ports to MacOS may be ported to Amiga and he didn't rule out games for AmigaOne.»

Patch: BlizKick V1.24rc3
On 23 March 2002 Harry 'Piru' Sintonen released version V1.2rc3 of BlizKick. This version offers improved romfixes for the OS3.9 BoingBag2.
  • Fixed V45 exec.library of AmigaOS 3.9 BoingBag2. It uses quite crude hack to enable it, you'd better have true 32bit memory that doesn't go away at reset for this to work. Works on my BlizzPPC, Wizor's & SMF^'s Blizzard 1260, Cyber2th's CSMkII and Zerohero's Blizzard 2060 at least. YMMV. Note that this hack automatically fixes some buggy programs that peek $f80000 for version information. Thanks to my impatient betatesters: Wizor, Jagge, Cyber2th, Zerohero, SMF^ and Lizard. Special thanks to Lizard for bugging me about this. Also thanks to everyone who mailed me about the problem.
  • Improved romfixes module: No longer fails whole module if some sub-patch fails. Now it should be possible to use romfixes as the last module.
  • Modified files since 1.24rc2: BlizKick.readme BlizKick/BlizKick BlizKick/BlizKick.ASM BlizKick/Modules/romfixes BlizKick/Modules/romfixes.ASM

AmigaOSXL: Experiences with the H&P Big-Tower 1800+ (Update)
Dietmar Knoll:
In my report I describe the experiences I made with the Big-Tower. These now reach from the delivery until the first experiences in everyday usage. The sixth update of my experiences report includes a test of the network card and a hint to the BoingBag3.9-2. As the most important news I can communicate the installation of more software, about which I compiled a software list. The next things I plan to do is install BoingBag2 and then have a closer look at AmigaXL. (ps)

Game: NetHack 3.4.0
The new version 3.4.0 of Nethack is available for download. Versions for several platforms such as Linux, MS-DOS, Windows3.1, Windows 95/98/NT/2000/Me/XP, Macintosh and Amiga exist.

What is NetHack?
NetHack is a single player dungeon exploration game that runs on a wide variety of computer systems, with a variety of graphical and text interfaces all using the same game engine. Unlike many other Dungeons & Dragons-inspired games, the emphasis in NetHack is on discovering the detail of the dungeon and not simply killing everything in sight - in fact, killing everything in sight is a good way to die quickly. Each game presents a different landscape - the random number generator provides an essentially unlimited number of variations of the dungeon and its denizens to be discovered by the player in one of a number of characters: you can pick your race, your role, and your gender. For information on running the program see the README that comes with each copy. (ps) (Translation: rh)
