GFX-BASE: Interview with Nikolaj Thygesen
You can read an English-language Interview with Nikolaj Thygesen. Nikolaj is the creator of a professional freeware image-authoring program, similar to Photogenics or ArtEffect. Right now he is busy with a new beta that not only has an improved layer/levels-system, countless paint-effects and the usual design-tools but it also has splines, an anti-aliasing font-engine, an improved GUI and much more.

GFX-base wanted to know more about this beta, and so they talked with Nikolaj about his beta, his future plans, his new website, and current Amiga happenings. (ps) (Translation: dm)

Update II to opinion poll of laser labelling
As we have already reported in February and at the beginning of March the company Lasertechnologie Winter offers the possibility to Amiga-groups of labelling things made of steel with logos and writing by laser. There have been some questions concerning this. Because of that Gernot Stühn has created a paket for download which contains a price list as well as examples. Gernot wants to point out that this prices are net prices to which you have to add 16% value added tax.

This is short summary of the German article. If you want to get further information then please have a look at the title link. (ps) (Translation: dr)

Virus Help Denmark: xvs.library v33.38
Georg Hoermann & Jan Erik Olausen has just released a new update of the antivirus library "xvs.library", the update is now available for download at our homepage.

The xvs.library contains all the virus recognition and removal code that was formerly included in VirusZ. This step has been taken for one major reason: VirusZ, Virus_Checker, Virus_Executor and all the other antivirus software can be updated quickly without releasing the whole packages every time a new virus appears.

So simply install the xvs.library from this archive to your LIBS: drawer to get 100% protection against the latest viruses.

To be able to check if the library in this archive really came straight from one of the authors, you can use the public key with the .sig files in the archive. If you are not sure or do not trust the included key, then you can always request the original straight from one of us (by email) or get it from the VHT-Denmark homepage.

Here is some info about the update:

Name: Xvs.library v33.38
Archive name: xvslibrary.lha
Archive size: 81.516 bytes
Date: 19 March 2002
Programmer: Georg Hoermann & Jan Erik Olausen

News in xvs.library v33.38 (size: 59.040 bytes):
Just had to fix two problems with the security code:

  • a. Timing has been improved to avoid interference with some music software. Thanks to Paracels/PCB for the report and testing.
  • b. Expunge of library caused access to deallocated memory in some rare cases. Thanks to Mikolaj Calusinski for the report and the excessive beta-testing ;)
  • Fixed (hopefully all) MuGuardianAngel hits in the SurveyMemory() routine. If anyone detects some more, please send me the logs. Thanks to Thomas Richter for his suggestions about mmu.library, but I finally found an other solution. And thanks to Sensei for reporting all his hits.
  • Improved speed of SurveyMemory() drastically by skipping similar recognition routines in just one step if their common requirements are not available.

Spiel: Tales of Tamar Amiga-Version 0.42 R1
The new Amiga-version 0.42 R1 for the Internet-based round game Tales of Tamar from Eternity has been published. Beta tester can download the update of the known place.

With version v0.42 the remaining city levels have been added. A city can now consist of up to 240 different buildings within four several levels: Village, town, city and metropolis.

At the same time Eternity dares to give a statement: "Now some things like settlers, cavalry, artillery and the statistics screen are missing and then the basis set for ToT has finally finished! But not to raise false hopes: Nevertheless ToT is tested for two years then we will add another two months of intensive tests in order to fix also the last bugs. Massive multiplayer games like ToT are very complexe programs and therefore have to be tested in this way.

What will happen afterwards? Already now we have carefully planned the future. ToT will be continued developing after the basis set, permanently improved and extended. ToT players can integrate with corresponding wishes in the project. All that which is meaningful and feasible we will add. Already now there are plans:

  • Building castles
  • Online-knights competition like archery, lances pang a.s.o.
  • Pedigree-management for the players
  • Specialists (clerics, wizards)
  • Royal secret service
  • Spying, saboteurs
  • Library with extensive documentations of ToT
  • 3D-card in ToT-fashion
  • Battlescreens
Certainly some people have noticed that some points have stood for some years on our list. The concept has progressed during the last years and it changes. Partly some things have been added which we have not planned even four years ago. The basis set has become so complex that we now have to draw a line." (ps) (Translation: dr)

  • WinTV Go - picture, tuning, tv-sound.
  • Medion (ALDI) last version - picture, tuning, stereo/2-channel-sound, Radio, ext. Video/S-Video with sound.
  • miro PCITV picture, tuning, ext. Video, sound.
Further cards could partly work. They will be added if the information are available. (ps) (Translation: dr)
