Amiga40: Voting for the Community Award / Presentation of the Mirari Board
Following last month's Geit@Home meeting, the Mirari Board will be presented to a wider audience for the first time at Amiga40 in Mönchengladbach. It will be on display at the MorphOS booth by developers Dave 'Skateman' Koelman and Harald 'Geennaam' Kanning.
Meanwhile, voting for the Community Award has begun and will continue until September 30 in four categories (hardware, software, games, miscellaneous). Registration is required to participate. (snx)

AmigaOS 4: ShaderNova 1.1 for post-processing effects
ShaderNova uses the Warp3D Nova library (version 54.16) for AmigaOS 4 to mirror content from other windows and render it using fragment shaders. The source window must not be obscured, though. If running on its own screen, ShaderNova can also be used in full-screen mode. Normal keyboard and mouse events are passed through to the original window. (snx)

MorphOS: Beta version 6 of the SDK-Explorer
Yannick 'Papiosaur' Buchy's SDK-Explorer is used to display the documentation included in the MorphOS developer package. However, the beta version 6 now available does not yet have the ability to display also the source code from the SDK (or third-party documents). Minor issues still to be resolved include the search function's case sensitivity and the consistent display of document titles in bold.

AI image generator: AmiDream 0.3
Marcus 'ALB42' Sackrow's AmiDream uses the Stable Diffusion language model to generate images from text descriptions. The program is available for AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, AROS (x86, x64, ARM) and MorphOS.
The update fixes bugs and introduces a randomly generated image every day, including a list of random images from previous days, as this seems to be the most used feature according to the author and can therefore be loaded faster for everyone now. (snx)

Remote control of an Ultimate 64: u64SidPlayer and u64ctl
Marcin Spoczynski has released two tools, u64SidPlayer and u64ctl, which allow an Amiga to control the FPGA-based C64 and 1541 clones Ultimate 64 and Ultimate II via a home network.
u64SidPlayer is a dedicated SID music player with full playlist management, HVSC song database integration, multi-subsong navigation and dual-SID detection. It features a MUI interface, search/filter capabilities, shuffle/repeat modes, and automatic song length database downloads from HVSC servers.
u64ctl is a Ultimate64/Ultimate-II control suite including a CLI tool for scripting, a MUI graphical interface and a developer library. It provides remote control for disk image mounting (D64/G64/D71/G71/D81), PRG/CRT loading, memory read/write, machine control (reset/reboot/power), keyboard input, and basic SID/MOD playback. (cg)

AmigaOS 4: modular multi-plattform emulator "RetroArch"
Steffen Häuser writes: After a long development period, the modular emulator system RetroArch for AmigaOS 4 was released today on os4depot. Unlike single emulators, RetroArch has the advantage that it is easier to implement/port a 'core' and that you don't have to implement things like video refresh, sound and gamepad support from scratch every time, because the main executable already does that – and is highly optimised. And the end user gets a common GUI for all emulations.
A large number of cores are already available.
Versions for WarpOS, MorphOS and 68k (and possibly AROS x86 in the future; the AROS version's GUI is already running, but the cores are not yet) are still in development (donors via PayPal to tirionareonwe@gmail.com can already receive the beta for WOS/MOS/68k). MorphOS and WarpOS versions will probably be the next to be released, but it is not yet known exactly how long this will take. (cg)

AmigaOS 4: Audio editor Rave 1.8
Daniel "trixie" Jedlicka has released version 1.8 of his audio editor "Rave". To load and save audio files, the programme now uses the Linux library libsndfile, which was recently ported to an AmigaOS shared library by Jedlicka himself and was also released today. The changes in Rave 1.8 in detail:
- The program now uses sndfile.library (needs to be installed in LIBS:) for
sample loading and saving, instead of a custom module.
- Added support for Microsoft ADPCM compression in the loader and saver code.
- New function in the Edit menu: "Set selection", which allows making precise
selections based on user input or pre-defined ranges.
- The item "Extend selection" in the Edit menu has been renamed to "Modify
selection", and its submenu contains two new commands, "Halve" and "Double".
- Fixed the "Create new drawer" function in the file requester, which would
cause a lockup if the "Enter created drawer" option was selected.
- Fixed a small bug introduced in V1.7 which would leave certain menu commands
available even if no sample was loaded.
- Across all program components, reworked memory allocations to make them more
consistent and less error-prone.
- When loading the list of recently opened files, Rave now checks the list and
removes all items that are no longer available.
- In the file requester, the file name gadget wouldn't accept more than 127
characters; the limit has been increased to MAX_DOS_NAME (255 characters) to
support long file names in modern filesystems.
- Various other smaller improvements and fixes.
- Updated documentation.

Programming challenge: Demos without using CPU
At this year's Evoke demo party, the demo "No-CPU Challenge" by Demostue Allstars took first place in the "Alternative Platforms" category (amiga-news.de reported) and also served as an invitation to a programming challenge: the creation of demos that run entirely on Amiga custom chips without using the CPU.
The linked repository contains the challenge rules and a runner application for launching no-CPU demos. (dr)

Preview video: Emu68 V1.1 with Dumpster feature (update)
In a preview video, Michal Schulz uses the macOS 8.1 boot process to demonstrate how the Dumpster feature in the upcoming version 1.1 of Emu68 improves performance: with Dumpster disabled, the boot process took 84 seconds, but after enabling it, the boot time was reduced to 28 seconds.
And the developer explained: "Dumpster is a new way of destroying and re-using JIT instruction caches in Emu68. Instead of throwing them away right after cache flush, they are reused later if the memory of the JIT block has not changed.
The effect is visible here - macOS is constantly flushing CPU instruction cache, also the JIT cache of Emu68. With dumpster on, the boot time of macOS decreases drastically. The effect is even more pronounced on macOS 7.5.
This is a Work-In-Progress - there are still few things to do before it is going public."

New Commodore owner: third video in the "Let's buy Commodore!" series
In the third episode of his "Let's buy Commodore" series, YouTuber Christian 'Perifractic' Simpson shows footage of the contract signing three weeks ago in Amsterdam, as well as recordings of various video calls with well-known personalities from the Commodore scene who want to support Simpson in an advisory capacity.
Explaining whether there will be an official "Commodore Amiga" - a question allegedly posed to him "by precisely one million of you" – the new Commodore CEO states (minute 8:45 of the video): "Well, if I could snap my fingers and just make it so - I would. For now, what I can say is I had some positive meetings about it, but it's not all up to me: The ball is now firmly in others' courts, and they know my cartridge port is always open."
In a conversation with Leonard Tramiel, son of Commodore founder Jack Tramiel, Simpson hints at what products are still in the pipeline after the C64 Ultimate (minute 20:03 of the video): "We have a product roadmap with about 12 to 14 solid ideas for the next four years. We will try to do two things really well each year. One of them is calculators."
Editor's note: The "C64 Ultimate" is advertised as a ready-to-use revival of the C64, but the product description in the shop still states that the required ROM images may need to be installed manually
"via guided ROM setup on first boot" - which suggests that the new Commodore has not yet acquired a licence for the C64 firmware from the rights holder Mike Battilana. Battilana would also be the contact person for licensing the Amiga brand and the Amiga operating system. (cg)

Preview video: AMail 0.0.6 email program
There is another preview video for Ryan 'bluewizard' Stapleton's project to write a modern e-mail program for AmigaOS 3.2 called "AMail" that supports IMAP and SMTP. For example, deleting e-mails on the server now works, and a configuration window and address book are planned next.
A first release is scheduled for next month, as the programmer wants to participate in the Amiga 40 Tools Jam. (snx)

QEMU front end for launching AmigaOS 4/MorphOS/AROS: Kyvos 1.3.1
George Sokianos' QEMU front end "Kyvos" is designed to significantly simplify the setup and
launch of AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS under QEMU (amiga-news.de reported).
Version 1.3.1 now features a new output window that allows users to access the serial port output when running an AmigaOS 4 system (Pegasos2 and AmigaOne XE). This enables developers and beta testers to obtain crash reports and error information.
Kyvos now fully supports French, German, Greek, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. If you encounter any awkward or incorrect translations, please create a ticket on GitHub.
It is now possible to change the emulated CPU for Pegasos 2 systems. This could be useful in situations where the standard CPU has compatibility issues with certain software. Similar functionality is also planned for AmigaOne systems.
Finally, you can rename the virtual machine, and the manual has been updated again in the FAQ section. (dr)
