Crowdfunding: History of Commodore - The Final Years
Started with Commodore: A Company on the Edge and Commodore: The Amiga Years, Brian Bagnall now is working on the thirs part of his triology about the history of Commodore.
According to Bagnall "this book is mostly written and now requires extensive editing and polish". He has started a campaign for crowdfunding the third volume: The book is supposed to be available at the end of the year.
So far 24,862 Euro were pledged and thus the goal of 15,906 Euro exceeded. Similar to the previous book "stretch goals" were defined like metallic foil stamp on spine, pages of color photos or embossed title on front cover which can be implemented if the required money will be donated. In order to achieve the same product quality, about 57.000 Euro have to be pre-financed by May 16th.

Demo scene: The Black Lotus released final version of Starstruck
12 years after the first release of "Starstruck" at the Assembly 2006 - the demo did win the competition - the scene group The Black Lotus has released a final version of it. According to the authors, the final version fixes some display errors. Additionally some optimizations of the performance, caused by an Atari-Falcon-port by MiKRO / Mystic, were back ported to the Amiga.
Starstruck requires an AGA Amiga with a 68060 (50 Mhz) and about 50 MB Fast-RAM. Graphic boards are not supported.

MorphOS: E-Mail client Iris, beta 24
Jacek 'jacadcaps' Piszczek's "Iris" is supposed to become the default mail program for MorphOS. It supports IMAP and can read and create HTML mails. The program requires MorphOS 3.10. You can give feedback to the author using the corresponding discussion on Morphzone. Changes since our last news item:
Beta 24
- Email viewer displays some basic error on failure now, instead of just showing the loading animation forever
- Fixed: OAuth2 wouldn't always migrate to new settings correctly
- Fixed: OAuth2 could never complete in some cases
- Fixed: if the latest message in folder was removed on server, it was not removed from the local cache
Beta 23
- Reworked job priority queue to avoid situations where one has to wait for email contents for too long
- Folder full sync jobs can now be done in steps (unlocks email reading while syncing)
- Fixed email counts in the folder tree for IMAP
- Reworked autoconfiguration for OAuth2 providers
- Added Yahoo! Mail OAuth2 provider (does NOT work at the moment)
- Cut text (cmd+x) shortcut added to the email writer
- Revamped transport security settings - now a switch between TLS, STARTTLS and opportunistic STARTTLS
- When replying or forwarding mail, an appropriate flag on the source email is set
- Fixed: quick folder synchornization would call Close on a fh twice if ChangeMode() failed
- Fixed: Removing an account did not kill the entry from the settings list
- Fixed: After an account was removed but not removed from the list, collecting properties for the non-existing account threw exceptions
- Fixed: there was a rather nasty race condition in the main Session class
- Fixed: after adding a message to a folder and synchronizing the folder, each time it was synchronized, the message would duplicate in the index

MorphOS: InstantZip 3.5

A4000: Two projects for original motherboard remakes
Last week two projects for the remake of A4000 motherboards (revision B) were presented:
The US-American trader and repair service Paul 'Acill' Rezendes is going to solve the problem of highly attrited A4000 motherboards he gets for repairing. Therefore he started a campaign Amiga 4000 Replica with Schematics at GoFundMe.
At the moment 4910 USD of the required 5000 USD were donated but Rezendes himself did finance the remaining sum and already tasked an US-American company with the development of an exact clone of the revision B of the A4000 motherboard. The corresponding project file will be available in different file formats ("open and public"), so interested people can produce new motherboards. The initiator of the project answers questions in a thread on amiga.org.
Another remake of the A4000 motherboard is A4000+ Alice. This design has been already finished. The developer already has assembled a working Amiga 4000 using "his" motherboard. As soon as the remaining motherboards will be sold on Amibay, the project documents will be publicly available. The Finnish developer 'hese7' plans also an ATX version of the motherboard. According to Finnish users a Prometheus-PCI solution will be included.

Book: "MorphOS - Volume One" in English, volume 2 in Polish available
The English-language version of the first volume of the two-volume book about the operating system MorphOS wriiten by Adam Zalepa (amiga-news.de reported) is supposed to be available from next week.
The first volume of the tutorial, originally published in 2016, is about the basics like booting from CD, the installation and the most important settings and the Shell. The second volume which will be published in Polnish this month, already regarding MorphOS 3.10, is about additional details, e.g. network, different file formats and file systems, data compression and data recovery, ARexx, Lua and emulation.

FPGA: Apollo-Core-Update Gold 2.9
The Apollo core is a FPGA-reimplementation of Motorolas m68k-series, which also provides a separate graphic mode called SAGA. Currently the core is used in the accelerator boards 600 V2 and 500 V2(+). All changes are listed under the title link:
- Better support for fast Power-Off/On of the Amiga
- Allow software to turn off built-in Map-ROM to access on-board ROM-Chip
- Map-ROM mapping support for Atari ROMs
- Memory management support for Atari Memory map
- FPU speed-up (now 51 MFlops at x11 according to SysInfo)
- FPU fully working under Atari OS
- Pressing Fire buttons on Power-On will boot EmuTOS (Atar OS)
