Hollywood-Plugin: GL Galore 1.0 for hardware-accelerated 2D-/3D-graphics
Press release: This is the game changer you've been waiting for! Airsoft Softwair is proud to present the next big thing: GL Galore, the ultimate OpenGL® scripting solution for Hollywood! GL Galore is a plugin for Hollywood that allows you to access the OpenGL 1.1 command set directly from Hollywood. This makes it possible to write scripts that utilize the host system's 3D hardware to create high-performance, butter-smooth 2D and 3D animation that is computed completely in hardware by the GPU of your graphics board. This leads to a huge performance boost over the classic Hollywood graphics API which is mostly implemented in software. Especially systems with slower CPUs will benefit greatly from hardware-accelerated drawing offered by OpenGL.
OpenGL is a portable software interface to graphics hardware. It is available for almost every platform in a variety of flavours. On AmigaOS and compatibles, OpenGL is available as MiniGL on AmigaOS 4, TinyGL on MorphOS, StormMesa on AmigaOS 3, and Mesa 3D on AROS. Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux systems are usually shipped with an OpenGL driver already installed.
GL Galore offers wrapper functions for most commands of the OpenGL 1.1 API including many GLU functions. Additionally, GL Galore also offers bridging functions that allow you to convert Hollywood brushes into OpenGL textures and vice versa. Furthermore, when GL Galore is activated, Hollywood's hardware brushes and hardware double-buffers are mapped directly to OpenGL so that you can even benefit from hardware accelerated drawing and transformation without writing a single line of GL code. Whenever GL Galore is activated, all graphics output will automatically be routed through OpenGL.
GL Galore can also be useful for rapidly prototyping software in OpenGL. People who used to program OpenGL using C will greatly appreciate Hollywood's convenient multimedia API which offers functions for almost all common tasks. For example, by using GL Galore to write OpenGL programs you can avoid all the hassle of managing a GL window using one of the many different toolkits out there. Also, jobs like image loading, sound or video playback, font handling and image manipulation will become ridiculously easy thanks to Hollywood's powerful command set which covers almost 700 functions. And of course, there aren't 14 different versions of commands like glColor, but just one version because sometimes less is more.
GL Galore is the first plugin to bear the Powered by Hollywood 6.0 seal of quality as it utilizes the new display adapter plugin interface introduced with Hollywood 6.0. The plugin will not work with older versions of Hollywood. It is available free of charge and can be downloaded from the official Hollywood portal at http://www.hollywood-mal.com/ Versions for AmigaOS 3, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AROS (i386), Windows, Mac OS X (PowerPC and i386) and Linux (PowerPC and i386) are provided. On top of that, GL Galore comes with over 250 pages of documentation in various formats like PDF, HTML, AmigaGuide, and CHM. Finally, many impressive example scripts are included in the distribution archive to get you started really quickly.
All of this makes GL Galore the ultimate OpenGL scripting experience combining the best of both worlds into one powerful plugin: Hollywood's extensive and convenient multimedia function set and OpenGL's raw graphics power!

AROS-Distribution: Aeros for Raspberry Pi 2 Premium with ExaGear
Pascal Papara's Linux-hosted AROS-distribution Aeros now exclusively is available for the Raspberry Pi 2 as premium version (screenshot), which includes the lx-command for launching Linux-programms out of AROS as well as the commercial programm ExaGear.
Using this emulator it is possible to execute x86-applications on the ARM-processor of the Raspberry. Therefore programms like Skype (Linux/x86) and Wine (Linux/x86) as well as, based on them, Amiga emulators WinUAE (Windows/x86) and WinFellow (Windows/x86) can be used with this distribution (Video: WinFellow).
Some of the x86-programms only runs with limitations: For instance Skype has not a sound output because the required soundserver PulseAudio was left out due to problems with other apllications. Without ExaGear and the programms which use it, the distribution can be also used on a Raspberry Pi 1.

Petro Tyschtschenko obviously sells his Walker prototype
According to rumours in several forums, Petro Tyschtschenko offers the last Walker prototype - the other model he sold to Nicholas Blachford long ago - for sale via Facebook. The entry on Facebook is not generally accessible. Therefore currently there are only some screenshots:
If these screenshots prove themselves true, then Tyschtschenko obviously hopes to get 25.000 Euro by selling this rare prototype - which recently could be booted at a retro meeting for the first time (the IDE-cable was connected incorrectly).

Platformer: "The Game"
David Eriksson's "The Game" is an unfinished platformer written in AMOS. The game is fully playable, according to the author it only lacks "a title and a little bit of polish". The author explains that "there is no
real ending, you just get to a room that says Well Done and there's no real end".
Eriksson also states that "The main reason I stopped development was that when I tried the game on a clean A1200 there was some minor sprite flicker that I couldn't get rid of (and its still there) but now I decided to clean up some other parts of the game up a bit and release what I have."
"The Game" was heavily inspired by the retro platformer You have to win the game, even if work on the former started way before the latter was released.
"The Game" runs on 68000-based Amigas but according to the author "it still is a little slow". An Amiga 1200 with some FastRAM is recommended.

Sam460 customers can return AmigaOS 4.1 and get a refund
Three weeks ago, MorphOS 3.8 has been released, including support for the Sam460 motherboards from ACube. Now the Italian hardware vendor reacts to this development and offers his customers a refund if they want to return their copy of AmigaOS 4.1: If you return your AmigaOS DVD to ACube, ACube will pay you 48 Euros.
The exact conditions for the refund are listed in a PDF file that is linked to from ACube's webshop:
- The refund is only available for "AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition OEM" and needs to be requested no more than 30 days after purchase of the hardware
- the DVD package is unopened and still shrinkwraped
- The customer returns the DVD to ACube at his own costs and also pays any additional paypal or bank fees required for returning the money to him
- To avoid the additional costs and the hassle of sending the DVD back to ACube, customers can request a refund immediately after ordering the hardware, bevore it's even processed at ACube
All Sam460 variants are still available only as a bundle with AmigaOS 4.1 though. The fact that ACube keeps referring to a "refund" even if it's clear new customers can pretty much buy a motherboard and request the 'refund' at the same time and that the company explains in detail why they're offering a refund - including a link to the EU guidelines on "Unfair Commercial Practices" suggests that ACube's contractually obligated to always sell a copy of AmigaOS 4.1 with their Hardware.
It's currently unknown if the refund will also be available when purchasing a Sam460 through another dealer. (cg)

Interview with Trevor Dickinson
Under the title link, Michal Bergseth has interviewed Trevor Dickinson (A-EON Technology). He talked about the 30-birthday-events in Amsterdam, Neuss, Mountain View and Peterborough (which he will all attend) and that he supported financially later versions of Amiga Forever.
He has announced "MultiViewer" for AmigaOS and AmigaOS 4, a new software which will replace MultiView and show all kind of files which are supported by datatypes.
For the AmigaOne X5000 which is about to start production, A-EON Technology offers the prospect of a cheaper price compared to its predecessor.
Using the Cow3D demo, the latest benchmarks under Warp3D and a Southern-Island graphic board (XFX RadeonHD 7770) had demonstrated that the AmigaOne X5000 would be almost twice as fast as any other AmigaOS-4-PowerPC hardware, althouth a non-optimized OS4-version with Debug output was used. Dickinson did not mention, if this could be caused by the X-kernel.
