Modular multi-platform emulator: RetroArch now also available for WarpOS
The modular emulator system RetroArch is now available for WarpOS, following its release for AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS. Steffen Häuser informs us that cores such as SNES, Mame or FBNeo (quote) "run superbly on PCI based PPC cards with G3 or G4 processors, while BlizzardPPC and CyberstormPPC users should limit themselves to "smaller" cores. Press release: Brussels – September 9., 2025
Over the past few months, we have seen a massive increase in demand for AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for Pegasos 2. Since all physical copies are sold out, we have decided to make the ISO available for digital purchase.
The ISO can be purchased via 2Checkout. Once you have purchased your copy, you will receive a serial number that can be used to register at www.hyperion-entertainment.com.
As stock of the other versions of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition runs out, they will also be made available for digital download.
The price of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition has not been adjusted for almost 10 years, even though inflation and rising production costs have increased considerably. Therefore, the price of the digital download version of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for Pegasos 2 is ¤39.95 including VAT.
The price of the digital version of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for Classic has also been adjusted to ¤39.95 including VAT.

Review: Checkmate 19" IPS retro monitor
A recent video review provides detailed insight into the Checkmate 19" IPS retro gaming monitor from a user's perspective.
The monitor supports a wide range of signal inputs and resolutions—including 15 kHz, 31 kHz, PAL, and NTSC—and features a modular design that allows for the addition of further interfaces or customization modules. The report shows how the monitor performs in everyday use: image quality, adjustment options, connection versatility, and its suitability for various classic systems are examined in a practical manner.
The Checkmate 19" IPS retro monitor from British manufacturer Imica is available for pre-order from European distribution partner DragonBox, but is currently out of stock. (nba)

AI chatbot: AmigaGPT 2.11.2 (2nd update)
Cameron Armstrong has developed a chat program called AmigaGPT, which is based on ChatGPT. The software supports the latest OpenAI models including the o1 family and runs on AmigaOS 3.1 and above (including 4.1) and on MorphOS. The source code of the tool can be downloaded separately.
The new version 2.11.0 is now available and includes, among other things, a daemon app that allows AmigaGPT to be used in combination with ARexx in the background without a GUI. All changes at a glance:
- New daemon app (AmigaGPTD). An app that has no GUI and can run in the background. If you have this running, there is no longer any need to have the main AmigaGPT app open if you want to use AmigaGPT's commands in ARexx. The daemon listens on the ARexx port named "AMIGAGPTD" so make sure your scripts try to connect to this new port first, and if it fails, attempt connecting to "AMIGAGPT" which is still the port used by the main app
- Chat message responses from ARexx now put escape sequences in the returned string instead of using control characters (e.g. \n instead of 0x0A) to make them easier to work with in ARexx scripts
- Automatically retry sending or receiving data if the request was made before the handshake had completed
- Greatly improved error reporting for connection errors. It now can show the user a much more detailed and useful error message if something goes wrong
- Added a 3 minute timeout for waiting for a response from the API so it will give up after 3 minutes with an error message instead of waiting forever and making AmigaGPT permanently stuck
- Stop the ARexx scripts that delete a temporary file from announcing the deletion to the user in the console
- Change the default program for the readme and the guide to both be MultiView
- Installer now installs the updated and new ARexx scripts if an older version of AmigaGPT is already installed
Update: (10.09.2025, 05:45, dr)
Meanwhile version 2.11.1 is available:
- Can now quit the app and daemon with CTRL-C in the shell
- AmigaGPTD now shows errors in requesters
- AmigaGPTD now launches with sufficient stack size
- Launching ARexx scripts from AmigaGPT now finds RX on earlier versions of AmigaOS 3
- Say.rexx script now lets you select a voice
2nd Update: (15.09.2025, 05:45, dr)
Yesterday version 2.11.2 has been released:
- Improve handling of server disconnections
- Fix occasional crash downloading chat responses
- Startup script for the daemon in AmigaOS 4 and MorphOS no longer cause errors
- The say.rexx script now works with the daemon

Computer history: Microsoft makes source code for BASIC interpreter available
The BASIC interpreter, which was developed in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen for the Altair 8800 and laid the foundation for Microsoft's software history, is now available on GitHub under the MIT license. This historic source code was later adapted and became the core of BASIC versions on popular home computers such as the Commodore PET, VIC-20, C64, and Apple II.
The release could also be of particular interest to the Amiga community: The AmigaBASIC interpreter, included in AmigaOS 1.1 to 1.3, was the only software product that Microsoft ever developed directly for the Amiga. It was structurally based on Microsoft's BASIC implementation, but with adaptations to the platform's graphics and sound capabilities. (nba)

Video: 68000 - The CPU ahead of its time
The YouTube channel Modern Vintage Gamer explores the history of the legendary 68k processor in the video documentary “Motorola 68000 - The CPU ahead of its time.” Introduced in 1979, the chip competed with Intel's 8086 and quickly established itself as a powerful and versatile CPU.
The video traces the journey of the 68000 from the arcade machines of the 1980s to home computers such as the Amiga and Atari ST, and on to console hardware such as Capcom's CP System CPS-2 arcade machines. It also highlights its influence on the demo scene and the development of graphical user interfaces. The episode pays homage to a processor that shaped the gaming experiences of an entire generation and still holds a special place in the hearts of developers and retro fans today.

DIY: ROM emulator "RPROM" for A500, A600, A2000
RPROM is a ROM emulator for 16 bit Amiga computers (A500, A600, A2000) based on the RP2350B microcontroller.
The RPROM board has a 4 MB SPI flash memory. Each ROM image is 512 kB in size, and therefore the 4 MB is divided into 8 slots of 512 kB each. The first slot is dedicated to store code and configuration data for the RP2350B. The seven remaining slots are used to store ROM images.
ROM images can be written to flash memory either via USB, or directly from the Amiga using a program called RPROM. This RPROM program is also used to switch which slot is the active slot.
The repository contains the hardware, firmware and software for RPROM. (dr)
