Coyote Flux explanation concerning GFX-Base interview
Dear People,
As promised there would be some details announced considering the
"Supercomputer" system that we have said we are working on. In this
case there has to be said that the system that has been referred to is
the Pegasos from bplan. Our company Thendic-France has retained bplan
to miniaturize the Pegasos to make a handheld "Supercomputer".

PS: Only the English link works at the moment, the French will be
online soon.

Catweasel ISA: Image-write utility
The following news cannot be disseminated without a sense of irony:
66 months since the initial release of the Catweasel ISA, we're
publishing a free tool for writing disks with the controller.
The aplha-version currently supports Amiga disks only, and it runs on
DOS or in a DOS box of Win95/98. For easy porting to other operating
systems, and for educational purposes, the source is included.

Game: Port of 'Software Tycoon' on it's marks
New managing game (business simulation) for Amiga
At the Amigashop of KDH Datentechnik
a new business simulation for Amiga is promoted. This one is a port of Software Tycoon,
which is at E.p.i.c. Interactive
in work. The website of Software Tycoon is reachable via the title link.
Description:
The year is 1982: Small computer-game companies are mushrooming - the new
economy opens up undreamed possibilities for creative minds. At least you
try that risky step to that unknown branche and found your own game company.
It is all in your hands: Starting with the layout of a much promising concept
for the perfect game you are led to production, sales and marketing. Take on
the right employees and will you manage it to establish your company worldwide?
Will you be able to use the coming up new technologies and to handle the growing
efforts of the market? Software Tycoon is the ideal simulation for all
game-enthusiasts, who are dreaming of making their hobby to profession. With
the multiple possibilities for interaction, many given scenarios, always new
challenges and a extortionate dash satire according to the software-branche
Software Tycoon is exactly the game for which all gamblers always were waiting for!
But be warned: Your opponents are crafty and don't hesitate to use nasty sabotage
to put anyhow stones - better say viruses - on your path...
Shipping is planned for end of May 2002.

IOSPIRIT founded, takeover of Innovative products
At the end of the year 2000, fxSCAN 3.0, the first program for optical character recognition (OCR)
for the AMIGA for a long time, has been officially presented. The program AMIGA-users longed for
such a long time was ordered that often within the first few weeks of availability that the infrastructure
of Innovative couldn't keep pace any more.
Felix Schwarz, author of such powerful and popular graphics applications like fxSCAN, fxPAINT, Ultraconv
and VHI Studio, made the decision to create an own company from Innovative, the AMIGA-division (led by Felix
Schwarz) of the software-company of his father, renew the whole internal infrastructure and organisation,
expand the business areas and to further extend and improve the customer service.
On the 2nd of January 2002 IOSPIRIT was founded by Felix Schwarz in Herzogenaurach. The enterprise
has two main fields of business activity:
- Software development
IOSPIRIT develops powerful graphics applications for the most different tasks and target
audiences. In development special focus is put on the support of the latest technologies
and easy usability while still offering maximum power, flexibility and expandibility. IOSPIRIT
also develops new, innovative technologies whereof the user directly profits.

At the AmigaActive mailing list editor Neil Bothwick confirmed that
the magazine "digital" will be collimated. That magazine has been
thought of to be the successor of the last English Amiga print magazine

The reason might be a wrong positioning at the market and the
still not enough interest for that so called "digital convergence".

Matrix screen blanker v1.9
Matrix is a screen blanker for AmigaOS 68k and MorphOS.
It works (or should work) on OCS, ECS, AGA, CGX and P96.
This update fixes the problems under OCS/ECS/AGA and Picasso96 introduced
in v1.8.
Detailed changes:
- The version string is back. [Hexaae]
- Fixed AGA screen depth and improved performance with FBlit. [Hexaae]
- Fixed P96 screen depth. [kakace]
- Should work without NoJoyCheck on systems where it was necessary before
(A4000 with nothing plugged in joy port 1, for example).
- AntiBlanker feature: you can create a ENV:AntiBlanker.cfg file which
contains a list of tasks that prevent blanking. [ChaoZer]

t-dsl from May 2002 via satellite
From May 2002 t-online will also offer t-dsl via satellite. The basic
charge for t-dsl is 19,95 Euro/month. Additionally you have to have
either a dsl modem or an Ethernet-card or only an USB-dsl modem.
Another precondition for using t-dsl via satellite is a
t-net/ISDN-telephone connection and a satellite bowl for Astra. With a
TV-card you can also simultaneously watching TV as well as listening to
the radio.

Development of GoldED Studio for AmigaOS stopped
Developer's Notice - Discontinued
I regret to inform AmigaOS users that all software on this web site is now discontinued (due to lack of time on my side to continue with AmigaOS software development).
What will happen to the BASIC interpreter?
Expect the source code to be made available under the GPL in the near future (in a nutshell, a GPL is a public domain license).
What will happen to the GoldED Studio software?
GoldED will remain available as a commercial product while stock lasts. Personal technical support will end this year. No future updates for AmigaOS will be released from the original developer.

Amiga Arena: Interview with Jakub Brzezniak
Not only the commercial Amiga game market has been almost vanished but also the PD game market! You cannot find new interesting games on Aminet except some few ones. Because of that it is more than pleasing that from time to time some little "WB mind"-games like "Swapper" or "Magic Numbers" are published.
Jakub Brzezniak of "Magic Software" who is the developer of the above mentioned games answers in an English spoken interview the standard questions of the Amiga Arena.
But it is less pleasing that future versions of the games will be probably published only for the PC!

supplement:
Bladerunner has made the following hint for Netconnect 3 user:
Netconnect3-user have to, for using the actual beta, register first their NC3-key at Vapor again as "single keys" because the NC3-key does not work with actual products of Vapor any longer.

AUG99: Pictures from Mekka & Symposium 2002
The Amiga User Group 99 was abroad again and brought with them some pictures from the Mekka & Symposium.
It's been a superb event with about 1400 participants. 1st-class Demos were shown on a huge screen, too, creating a unique atmosphere inside the hall.
There was to ascertain that the Amiga-demos do not need to hide in any way for the superior PC-demos. At least they seemed more dynamic and more interesting. The most impressive was the 64k-demo "Planet Potion" of group "potion", this one was confirmed inside the hall with huge applause.
Furthermore there were beside the PC-demos some C64- and (sadly) any very few some Atari-demos. Shown were as well some demos for the Gameboy and for the TI83 calculator, which was very impressive.
Among the Demos there were more topics like mp3 music, tracker, and graphic. More about that and all the results are on site Mekka & Symposium.

Statement from Bernie Meyer regarding the distribution of Amithlon
Bernie Meyer:
The bad news first: I have just released a statement regarding the
distribution of Amithlon; It is available under the title link.
Please read it; I hope it might explain some of my recent less than
cordial reactions on the Amithlon mailing list.
The good news is that I have uploaded an updated kernel image (based
on linux 2.4.19pre4) and a bunch of patches; You can grab that stuff
from http://www.amithlon.net/en/amithlon_updates.shtml.
I hope it comes in useful for someone.
I know this is going to cause a great deal of discussion and speculation.
I would like to ask everyone to please be reasonable, and stick to the
known facts, as well as to polite forms of discourse. The situation is bad
enough as it is, nothing at all can be gained from aggravating anyone
involved.
Thank you all for your understanding,
Bernie Meyer

Amiga Information Site
Due to the number of complaints on several public lists and forums
regarding a lack of a centralised place for Amiga information of all
kinds (classic, AmigaOne, OS4, Amiga Anywhere), I am working on such a
site.
It's TEMPORARY home is at http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~yttrium/amiga/
Please note that the current layout is very much not going to be the
final look of the page. I've got it how it is so that I can easily and
quickly add pages and information without the need to work on the
nitty-gritty of looks - I'm no website designer but please don't send
ideas for how you think I can make it look better, I'll come to that when
I've got enough information to warrant having a page in the first place.
What I'd like to request is that anyone who feels they can contribute,
please do so by emailling me information and pages to include. This is
not intended as a news site so I don't want information about upcoming
events and that sort of thing, just straight info. I'd appreciate it if
you send me whole pages to just slot in where appropriate that you design
them with no javascript, frames, or scripting of any kind - just straight
and plain HTML with links - also if you could keep images to an absolute
minimum as I only have 10MB webspace with my ISP and don't intend on
moving it to a real server until it's complete enough to be the kind of
place I'd be happy to point people for more information. My 10MB should
be plenty if we can keep it to being pure text and key images only.
If you take a look at what I've got there at the moment, you'll see the
general kind of things I want. My AmigaOne page is probably about the
most complete at the moment, but I could very much do with more technical
information linked off the AmigaOne specs (most of those links I've
written about one or two lines only at present).
The general idea is that anyone of any level can look at the site.
People click on the AmigaOne link and see basic information. Techie
types say, I want to know more about xxx, and click on that link for more
tech info. Any information that is implied or suggested but not directly
stated anywhere by someone "official" should be marked as such. I know
you might mean well, but unsubstantiated rumors are NOT the intended goal
of the site. I'm going to be putting a lot of my personal time and effort
into maintaining the information and keeping it all as up to date as
possible and I'd appreciate not having to wade through mountains of rumor
and misinformation. Information regarding anything to do with Amiga is
welcomed, but no "this is better than that" without hard fact to back it
up. Presently I'm mostly interested in information on AmigaOne,
AmigaOS4, Classic Amiga (history), Amithlon and AmigaDE (Anywhere),
however if someone wants to write something about MorphOS, UAE, Pegasos,
Merlancia, pOS, Classic Amiga expansions, software issues or anything
else relevant, I won't reject it (if it's factual, unbiased and contains
useful information of course).
Also, obviously, if anyone sees anything on the page that they think is
incorrect, let me know and I'll investigate it further.
To avoid spamming these lists with ideas, please send information/pages
directly to me at either yttriumox@softhome.net or
yttrium@ihug.com.au
with "page submission" in the subject (just so I can filter for it, I get
ALOT of mail).

Poll results and consequences
First of all "Thanks" to all Amigans who participated in the poll
(Digital Almanac). Though the poll was not representative, it
has showed several directions:
About 80% of all participants have shown their interests in the
AmigaOne and Pegasos board. But most of them want to wait how the
market will develop before they decide to buy one of the boards.
Astonishing: Almost all were not sure whether to buy the AmigaOne
AmigaOne or the Pegasos, but almost all would prefer OS 4 rather
than MorphOS! That's not a miracle, as both boards have almost
identical specifikations. And Amiga has shown with the publishing
of BoingBag 2 and the specs of OS 4, that development is continuing,
while it has been quiet calm with MorphOS during the past month.
Also most participants await a higher compatibility from OS 4 to
old OS 3 instead from MorphOS.
This shows, how important it is for Amigans, that the current
existing software will run reliable under the new OS. However,
it is currently unknown, how much new software will be released
for OS 4.

DynDNS Client: AmiDynDNS v1.0 BETA
The DynDNS client AmiDynDNS is available in version 1.0 BETA, you can download it from the website (title link).
AmiDynDNS is now a CLI/Commodity hybrid program. So you can use it as before from the CLI and from the workbench with a little GUI.
The Commodity mode is interesting for server users who must know the latest host. AmiDynDNS is running in the background after startup and checks in free chooseable intervall the stated host and updates if necessary.
Also two options are added, you can choose paths for log- and configfile.
This is a public BETA so I want to ask all users to report their experiences. I am interested especially in bugs and suggestions for the final version 1.0.

SFXSoft: YGM V2.6
YGM stands for 'You've Got Mail'. It checks an unlimited number of POP3
mailboxes for new mails without needing to start up the favourite yet
sometimes bulky mail client just for this. YGM shows how many mails are
waiting in each mailbox for download and their approximate size.
The most important new features in this release are:
The argument NOQUIT has been added to tell YGM not to quit an already
running instance of YGM if it is started again. Modified the places where
YGM looks for different files to better support running YGM from the
WBStartup drawer. Mailbox login now supports APOP for transmitting username
and password more safely. REPEAT values may now be specified in seconds too.

Dave Haynie left Merlancia
Dave Haynie, "Mr. 3000," was asked at the AmigaExpo2002 last weekend if he is still working for Merlancia Industries. His answer was NO. Dave would not tell what he actually doing right now, only that it has nothing to do with Amigas or PCs. amiga-news.de reported last year (July) that Haynie had become CTO of Merlancia.
Last weekend Dave played with a band called 'Unpanned Swampland Band'.

amiga.org: Hyperion-Chat (AmigaExpo 2002) (Update)
The Amiga Expo 2002 Hyperion chat is now available for download!
Download: Amiga-Expo-2002-hyperion.mp3 (5,5 MB)
Some interesting snippets of information, posted by SlimJim:
- Screenshots of Amiga OS 4.0 will be published in the first part of April.
- Magic Menu and Birdie (among others) will be seamlessly integrated into the OS 4.0 interface.
- The new OS 4.0 GUI will look quite different (i.e it will not just look like a fast OS 3.9).
- Opus Magellan 2 has been licensed for OS 4.0 (details unknown).
- For the moment, the new printer system is not due to arrive until Boingbag/OS 4.1.
- The _latest_ MUI source code will be used (there was a question about this)
- IBrowse2.3 will be quite some beast. It will be enhanced
for OS4.0. Not just some Aminet update. It will still miss
some features of Netscape/IE though. There is not time to
fix all to OS4.0. Flash is planned to be implemented. IB
will be _much_ more stable than it is now.
- The guy that did the Warp-datatypes seems to be doing the
new PPC-datatypes.
- The datatype system as a whole is to get a complete overhaul later.
There is not enough time to do that to initial release.
- An office suit (Open office if I remember correctly)
is being worked on. This is a 'high priority' for inclusion.
(although it was not clear to me if it would be shipped initially)
- The development of software -independent of company size-
is difficult to predict. But Mr. Hermans seems quite
confident of an end-user release in May.
Update 02.04.2002:

New C64 Commodore One
According to the internetradio broadcast from the Amiga Expo in Baltimore, there might arrive a successor of the C64 this year to market, the Commodore One.
Different to former "successors", which were in truth only common 486 pcs with an C64 emulation, this one will be a completley new design, as most as possible compatible to the C64. Interesting is that, different than the Aone, this will use custonchips again.
For sound there is "Monstersid", the grafics will be done from
"super vic" with a maximun resolution of 1280x1024.

CD32 & CDTV Emulator Akiko (for Windows) Version 1.5
Akiko 1.5, the CD32 & CDTV emulator for Windows was just released
on the Airsoft Softwair homepage.
This version is a major update with many new features and cool improvements:
For example it's now possible to boot CD32 & CDTV games directly
from their ISO image or from a folder on your harddisk. Additionally
you can put the audio tracks as MP3s on your harddisk and Akiko will
use and play them also (so you can also replace the music with your
favorite soundtracks!). Finally Akiko supports some new CD32 & CDTV
games and some fixes were done (concerning CD audio and Joypad emulation).
And I removed the code protections for Speris Legacy, Worms and
Alien Breed 3D because they are no longer necessary these days and
so they only nerv the users. Akiko 1.5 can now be downloaded from
the Airsoft Softwair web page (title link).

Move of #AmigaFun IRC-Chats
Stefan Martens:
Today the IRC channel #AmigaFun is moving to a new IRC server network. Phat-Net will hopefully be our permanent home. We decided to take this step because of the problems with Altnet. A year ago the admins promised improvement, but the problems just got worse and worse, especially recently.
On top of that, the Altnet admins were not going to let more than 5 users on the HTML chat, utilized by amiga-news.de and amigafuture.de. At Phat-Net 15 users are allowed, and on request this number may be raised, for example for special events. So there will be fewer problems with the use of the HTML chat. Not to mention that PhatNet has services. Unfortunately I can't control the fact that everyone who has registered a nickname must register it again. This should present only a minor problem though, ask us and we'll be happy to help you with it.
Advantageous to everyone: Phat-Net is a German server, located right in the middle of Germany.
Current entry data for your IRC client:
IRC Server: irc.phat-net.de
Port: 6667
Channel: #amigafun
Windows chatters who don't want to install an IRC client will find on this homepage, since a while ago, a functional IRC Java client. You just have to enter your nickname and you can participate in the chat.
I would like to beg your pardon, if there are still a few problems with the Java/HTML chat. I'll try to keep the downtimes to a minimum.

Patch: BlizKick V1.24rc3
On 23 March 2002 Harry 'Piru' Sintonen released version V1.2rc3 of
BlizKick. This version offers improved romfixes for the OS3.9 BoingBag2.
- Fixed V45 exec.library of AmigaOS 3.9 BoingBag2. It uses quite crude
hack to enable it, you'd better have true 32bit memory that doesn't go
away at reset for this to work. Works on my BlizzPPC, Wizor's & SMF^'s
Blizzard 1260, Cyber2th's CSMkII and Zerohero's Blizzard 2060 at
least. YMMV. Note that this hack automatically fixes some buggy programs
that peek $f80000 for version information. Thanks to my impatient
betatesters: Wizor, Jagge, Cyber2th, Zerohero, SMF^ and Lizard.
Special thanks to Lizard for bugging me about this. Also thanks to
everyone who mailed me about the problem.
- Improved romfixes module: No longer fails whole module if some
sub-patch fails. Now it should be possible to use romfixes as the last
module.
- Modified files since 1.24rc2:

AmigaOSXL: Experiences with the H&P Big-Tower 1800+ (Update)
Dietmar Knoll:
In my report I describe the experiences I made with the Big-Tower.
These now reach from the delivery until the first experiences in
everyday usage.
The sixth update of my experiences report includes a test of
the network card and a hint to the BoingBag3.9-2.
As the most important news I can communicate the installation
of more software, about which I compiled a software list.
The next things I plan to do is install BoingBag2 and then have a
closer look at AmigaXL.

Trademark Trouble: Asterix versus MobiliX
As already reported on 26.01.2002,
Werner Heuser, administrator of the open source project MobiliX - UniX
on Mobile Computers has received a request from the German legal representative of
"Lés Editions Albert René",
owners of the trademark of the name Obelix, in November 2001. Werner Heuser
sent the plaintiffs a 22 page response (PDF).
His arguments were rejected, though, by the legal representative of the trademark owner.
Werner Heuser: "Remarkable in the document are the insults at the end, which don't seem usual
for writings from lawyers. The legal trouble is documented since its beginning at the MobiliX
webpages and is discussed in many mailing lists and news groups. This seems to have impressed
the plaintiffs. They now accuse MobiliX of inventing "a new kind of electronical terror", and
are ready to sentence MobiliX. It will be interesting to know, which sentence the plaintiff will
invent against critical discussion in newsgroups."
Despite the announcements of the plaintiffs, the case goes on:
The court in Munich (Germany) has set the date for the first hearing to June 12th 2002.
At the title link you'll find more interesting details about this trademark trouble.

For two years now, Piotr Pawlowski has been making amiga-news.de available on his website for Polish readers in their native language.
Tireless, beyond-the-call-of-duty efforts are needed to translate the many daily articles, but this goes without saying. One must be involved often with various issues, and this certainly cuts into one's free time. So at this time we want to give a great "hurrah" and a big, heartfelt "thank you!"

Virus Help Denmark: xvs.library v33.38
Georg Hoermann & Jan Erik Olausen has just released a new update of the
antivirus library "xvs.library", the update is now available for download
at our homepage.
The xvs.library contains all the virus recognition and removal code that was
formerly included in VirusZ. This step has been taken for one major reason:
VirusZ, Virus_Checker, Virus_Executor and all the other antivirus software
can be updated quickly without releasing the whole packages every time a new
virus appears.
So simply install the xvs.library from this archive to your LIBS: drawer to
get 100% protection against the latest viruses.
To be able to check if the library in this archive really came straight from
one of the authors, you can use the public key with the .sig files in the
archive. If you are not sure or do not trust the included key, then you can
always request the original straight from one of us (by email) or get it
from the VHT-Denmark homepage.
Here is some info about the update:
Name: Xvs.library v33.38
Archive name: xvslibrary.lha
Archive size: 81.516 bytes
Date: 19 March 2002

Amithlon TV card-software v0.9 beta-version
Under the title link (section: news) you can find the new beta version 0.9 of the tv-card driver for Amithlon of Michael Ulbrich which is meant for all tv- and radio-cards with BT8xx.
As always the software is in an early beta phase and the GUI is still provisional. At the moment it is interesting if the tv-card is recognized. Definitively the following ones should work:
- WinTV PCI/FM - picture, tuning, stereo/2-channel-sound, radio, ext.
Video/S-Video-In with sound.
- WinTV Go - picture, tuning, tv-sound.
- Medion (ALDI) last version - picture, tuning, stereo/2-channel-sound,
Radio, ext. Video/S-Video with sound.
- miro PCITV picture, tuning, ext. Video, sound.
Further cards could partly work. They will be added if the information are available.

|
Instant-Messenger: StrICQ v2 Beta6
Douglas F. McLaughlin released beta 6 of the Instant-Messenger 'STRICQ'
(version 2). Compared to the previous version the following changes have
been made:
- Fixed the '*** NULL POINTER ***' text some people reported showing up
in the contact list. It was caused by sending or receiving a message
to/from a UIN in the 'Not in List' group.
- Now that the above bug is fixed, sending or receiving a message
to/from a UIN will cause that UIN to remain in the contact list
even after restarting STRICQ. However, there will be no status
changes for those UINs.
- When a UIN shows up in the 'Not in List' group, STRICQ will now
request that UIN's short info and display the Nick in the contact
list.
- Fixed a long-standing bug in the contact list display that would
cause a crash if the existing nick was changed after the UIN was
already inserted into the contact list.
